Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a moisture sensor according to Ober Concept of claim 1 and a measuring arrangement for measurement the damp.
Moisture detection is used in many applications cases of great interest, for example in air conditioning systems of buildings or in drying plants, for example in the textile or food industry.
It is known that the moisture after the elaborate to determine the psychrometric principle in which the tem difference in temperature of a moist and a dry thermo meters is determined, both of which are to be examined Air flows around. It is also known to be the porous Properties of substances in which water is stored, to determine the moisture. How to use hair Hygrometer is the moisture-dependent change in length of a hair and for electronic hygrometers the moisture-dependent one Change in capacitance of a capacitor with porous Dielek Trikum to determine the moisture.
With all these measuring devices, the measuring probes are relatively large in itself, measured by the proportions, as is common in many technological areas today are.
From "Optical Fiber Sensors", 1988, Technical Digest Series, Vol. 2, Optical Society of America, Washington, D.C., (1988), pp. 373-381, is a proposal for a fiber top table moisture sensor become known, in which in a porous optical fiber, a dye is embedded, which, when water penetrates its pores, with the water reacts and changes its color. The color change is detected by an absorption measurement. The response time is relatively large and the sensor part itself is relative large.
The object of the present invention is a very small size humidity sensor, universal on settability, low susceptibility to failure and high resistance ability to create. Furthermore, a measuring arrangement should Use of this moisture sensor can be specified.
The task is carried out with regard to the moisture sensor the features according to the characterizing part of claim 1 solved. A Measuring arrangement is specified in claim 10.
The moisture sensor according to the invention can be very small be built with a measuring volume in cubic micrometers Area. It is largely insensitive to electro magnetic interference, such as detection the humidity in microwave ovens during the cooking process allowed. The light supply can be via a glass fiber respectively; this allows the moisture sensor according to the invention even in places that are difficult to access, such as electrical ones Machines that monitor moisture. In contrast to the psychro gas recirculation is not required; therefore can the moisture sensor according to the invention also in very small Sample volumes are used, for example in hollow clear in building materials, food or in the biological / medical research in body cavities.
The adsorption of water is reversible, and the Response time with which the moisture sensor according to the invention reacting to changes in humidity is relatively short. The The layer structure provided provides reinforcement due to multi-beam interference, so the change effect length can be chosen very small.
Advantageous and expedient further training of the he The task solution according to the invention are in the subclaims featured.

Fig. 1 shows the basic structure of an optical moisture sensor 2. A multilayer arrangement 6 is provided on a substrate 4 and consists of a first layer sequence 8 formed on the substrate, a layer 10 applied thereon and a second layer sequence 12 applied thereon. The first layer sequence 8 is constructed as a sequence of successively alternating thin layers H made of a material with a high refractive index and thin layers L with a low refractive index. The layer 10 forming a spacer layer consists of a material with a high refractive index. The second layer arrangement 12 is constructed from a sequence of successively alternating thin layers L with a low refractive index and thin layers H with a high refractive index. The optical thickness of the individual layers H and L in the layer sequences 8 and 12 is a quarter of the design shaft length λ d . The optical thickness of layer 10 is a quarter, preferably a multiple of a quarter of the design wavelength.
The humidity sensor can be briefly described as follows will:
(Substrat) - erste Schichtenfolge 8 = (HL) k
- Abstandsschicht 10 = H l
- zweite Schichtenfolge 12 = (LH) m (Substrate) - first layer sequence 8 = (HL) k
- Spacer layer 10 = H l
- second layer sequence 12 = (LH) m
worin k, l, m ganze Zahlen sind und eine k-, l- und m-fache Wiederholung der Schichtenfolge bzw. der Schichten be deuten.where k, l, m are integers and are k, l and m times repetition of the layer sequence or layers.
The multilayer arrangement 6 thus represents a Fabry-Perot resonator in thin-film technology, where the first and second layer arrangements 8 and 12 form the mirrors of the resonator.
The substrate is preferably formed by a glass fiber, on the cut surface of which the individual layers H and L are vapor-deposited.
The thin layers consist of a porous, water-absorbing but water-insensitive material, for example oxides in which water is reversibly turned on can be stored and their refractive index with the Water content changes. Such oxides are known per se and have because of their great hardness and good chemical loading Constantly found a wide spread.
For example, TiO 2 can be used for the thin layer H with a high refractive index and SiO 2 for the thin layer L with a low refractive index. In addition to glass fiber, glass, ceramics, metal and plastics are also suitable as substrates or substrates.
Im Idealfall geringer Absorptionsverluste und zweier Spiegel mit genau gleichen Reflexionseigenschaften erhält man für einen Fabry-Perot-Resonator für die transmittierte Intensität I T die BeziehungIn the ideal case, low absorption losses and two mirrors with exactly the same reflection properties give the relationship for a Fabry-Perot resonator for the transmitted intensity I T
I T = I₀ 1/(1+F sin² (δ/2)) I T = I ₀ 1 / (1+ F sin² ( δ / 2))
mit F = 4R/(1-R) ² und δ = 2π2nd/λ L +Φ with F = 4 R / (1- R) ² and δ = 2 π 2 nd / λ L + Φ
Für die reflektierte Intensität I R giltIn this equation, R is the reflectivity of the mirror, I 0 is the incident intensity and λ L is the light wavelength of the light source used. With δ the circulation phase shift is designated, which, in addition to a constant Φ , which takes into account possible phase jumps at the mirrors, also contains the product of the geometric thickness d of the spacer layer 10 and its refractive index n . The following applies to the reflected intensity I R
I R = I₀ - I T = F sin² (δ/2) / (1+F sin² (δ/2)) I R = I ₀ - I T = F sin² ( δ / 2) / (1+ F sin² ( δ / 2))
Die Halbwertbreite ist Γ = (c/4 π d) (1-R) /√.The above expressions can easily be generalized to mirrors of different reflectivity and the case of non-vanishing absorption. However, this does not change the basic behavior, which is shown in FIG. 3. The curve I T / I 0 as a function of δ is often referred to as an Airy function. The transmission maxima occur at 2 nd = i g , where i is an integer. The full width at half maximum is Γ = (c / 4 π d) (1- R) / √.
If you choose a light source whose wavelength λ L differs from the design wavelength λ d by an amount in the order of half the half width of the half maximum of the transmission maximum, a sensitive conversion into a change in the transmitted or reflected intensity is obtained on the flank of the transmission maximum, which can be demonstrated with a normal photo detector.
By choosing the constants k , l , m the characteristic can be controlled, because small k and m increase the width of the transmission maximum and a small l increases their distance from the frequency axis (the "free spectral range"). Therefore, for small values of k, l and m there is a wide range of detected values of the moisture, but with a low differential sensitivity and for larger values a narrower range with a large differential sensitivity. This is of interest, for example, for monitoring whether a moisture limit value is exceeded or not reached.
FIG. 2 shows a measuring arrangement for determining the moisture with the aid of the moisture sensor described with reference to FIG. 1. Light from a laser diode 20 is focused by running through an optical arrangement 22 on one end of an optical fiber 24 , at the other end of which the moisture sensor 2 is arranged. The optical arrangement 22 has a first lens 25 for generating a parallel beam, which splits via a polarization beam splitter 26 and a circular polarizing λ / 4 plate 28 which strikes the incident light onto a second lens 30 which focuses the laser light onto the glass fiber . The light, which is preferably reflected after multiple reflection in the moisture sensor 2 , is guided back via the glass fiber 24 , linearly polarized in the λ / 4 plate (orthogonal to the light emitted by the laser) and deflected by the beam splitter 26 to a photodetector 32 , the output signals of which are fed to a differential amplifier 34 which is connected to a display 36 .
Die Ermittlung der Feuchte geschieht dabei folgender maßen:The moisture is determined as follows measure:
The refractive index of the spacer layer 10 changes due to the stored water. The refractive index, which is thus a measure of the humidity of the environment, can be measured via the reflectance or the transmittance of the multilayer arrangement 6 , by the intensity I 0 of the light coupled into the glass fiber with the intensity I R of the light reflected back in the glass fiber , for example with the help of the photodetector 32 , is measured. The comparator 34 , which is embodied here as a differential amplifier, is used to set the zero point and possibly additionally to set a scale factor for the display 36 .
One can advantageously work with two wavelengths λ L + and λ L - , of which, for example, one λ L + is larger and the other λ L - is smaller than the design wavelength λ d , such that when the refractive index changes, sensible changes in the Reflectivity and / or transmissivity result. As a result, the quotient of the two intensities assigned to the wavelengths can be evaluated. This has the advantage that interference is compensated for.
Moisture sensors were produced using the materials already mentioned TiO 2 for the layers with a high refractive index and SiO 2 with a low refractive index. The layers were evaporated in a vacuum on glass plates and cut surfaces of various glass fibers. The number of layers for the first and second layers follow 8 and 12 , ie the value for k and m , was 2 to 5 and for the spacer layer 10, ie the value for 1 , 16. The result was a 15% pore proportion in the TiO 2 spacer layer 10 . At high air humidity and normal room temperature, about a quarter of the pores are filled with water. The adsorption can be described as Langmuir sorption in very good nutrition, cf. Fig. 4, which means that the water in wesent union forms a monomolecular layer on the inner surface of the material. This inner surface is about 30 times as large as the outer one. The binding energy is about 0.3 eV per molecule. The adsorption is completely reversible, because no change was observed even after long-term tests with temperature cycles. Only in the case of humidity sensors that had been stored in ambient air for 20 months were there slight changes in the properties, which in turn could be reversed by briefly heating to 350 ° for 15 minutes. Even moisture sensors submerged under water can be regenerated in this way.
The response time with which the humidity sensors change air humidity is due to diffusion determined by the layer system and lies in the area eini seconds to about a minute.
It should also be pointed out that with longer glass fiber lengths it may be necessary to use polarization-maintaining fibers if the beam splitting, as described with reference to FIG. 2, is carried out by polarization optics.
