Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a method and a Device for determining water content in liquid oil-based and similar liquids. Under Oil-based liquids here are oils and are considered to be oils Result of refining liquids to be obtained, how to understand different types of fuels.
More specifically, the invention relates to a ver drive to determine water content in liquids oil-based and in similar liquids where without the need for a reference liquid than essentially continuous operation flowing liquid is illuminated and the light absorption of the liquid as a measure of the water content in the liquid. The invention further relates to a method for determining water content in Oil-based liquids and similar liquids in which process as essentially continuous operation the liquid to be examined speed through a light that partially lets through Body is illuminated, the light absorption of the Liquid as a measure of the water content in the Liquid serves. The device according to the invention is more specifically an apparatus for determining Water content in oil-based liquids and in similar liquids without the need for a reference liquid, which device is a radiation source and one in contact with the examining liquid standing medium between the radiation source and the filter-detector pair is arranged.
Oils are used in a wide variety of applications means of preventing friction and wear between bodies movable relative to each other. It is common in almost all purposes Deterioration of the lubrication effect and thereby the wear-preventing properties of the oil in use, which is why an oil change at certain times clearing is required. The deterioration of the Oil can be attributed to many factors and often due to it be that the water content of the oil gradually decreases in use Lich increases. A very low water content can cause great damage. The contained in the oil Water speeds up the etching of machines elements such as Store what an early Ver weary and sometimes a sudden machine causes damage. Machine damage is playing out some technical fields, like the paper industry, a crucial economic role. To the Example of an expensive paper machine being shut down would be too such losses lead to such a situation all means should be avoided. Therefore, the Ver deterioration of the oil in paper lubrication systems machines to which the present invention is also closely related heard by measuring the water content in the oil exactly be monitored. In practice, this is surveillance so far realized that from a flowing Lubricants at certain periods or occasionally a sample is taken, which is used in laboratory conditions Centrifuge, distillation plant, titration plant or Spectrophotometer was examined. If surveillance as a discontinuous operation in the above Way, there is the problem that the existence be and the amount of water can only be discovered if there is a lot of water in the lubricant collects or is mixed with it evenly.
Sudden appearance of water in the lubricant system the machine, which e.g. on negligence, faulty Use, accident or the like. can be attributed the machines mentioned at most purely by accident or not discover at all. Examples of these are e.g. To wash of the machines with water, sudden damage in the pipe system, water entering lubricant reservoir at Opening the container lid etc.
An attempt is made to understand the adverse effects of the Water, to which also by partial freezing of the Lubrication-related lubrication problems count, already in advance with the help of various dehydration devices or by adding various water binding and / or the adverse effects of water to avoid reducing agents, so-called detergents. The problem with the dewatering devices is in that they only act when the water content in the lubricating oil has risen relatively high and thus are not effective in applications for which permissible water content is a relatively low upper limit is set, e.g. in lubrication systems of paper machines. The additives in turn have that Disadvantage that they deteriorate the lubricating properties, which is why it is extremely rare or not at all in practice be used.
A device is also known with which the water content in a lubricant in Inter vallen of about 6 minutes can be determined. The Device works so that from the lubrication system a certain amount of liquid in a small chamber is initiated, which is heated so that the water evaporates. By measuring the vapor pressure of the evaporate the substance is given a value that is said to be that of amount of water contained in the lubricant is proportional.
The main problems with this device are that they have a relatively long time delay works and cannot exactly determine the water content, which is due to the fact that the Components other than water evaporate, where the vapor pressure to be measured with the water content is not exactly the same. In addition, this is Device quite expensive.
The presence of water is analogous to this disadvantageous in liquid fuels. Show up the disadvantages caused by water are most obvious as Problems in fuel delivery systems. Water can in the fuel in various ways, e.g. by con densify in fuel tanks, collect. In practice try the adverse effects of water thereby avoiding using the fuel Antifreeze is mixed. Freeze protection medium must be used in unnecessarily large amounts, because the determination of the water content in a burner extremely by using the known technology is difficult. Freeze inhibitors impair the lubrication of the fuel pumps. So far there is none Method or no device known with or which the water content in liquid fuel continuously could be determined easily, easily and precisely.
It is an object of the present invention the above problems by a method and to eliminate a device. The procedure is characterized in that the light rays through at least two filter-detector pairs, of which Filter the one only one wavelength in a range lets through, in which the absorption of water is great and the other only one wavelength in one range lets through, in which no substantial absorption of water takes place in a device that due to the relative difference in light intensities the rays coming from the filter-detector pairs the water content in the liquid to be examined certainly. The second method according to the present Invention is characterized in that the of in contact with the liquid to be examined standing surface of said body reflected Beams of light through at least two filter-detector Pairs, one of which filters only one wave passes in an area in which the Absorp tion of water is big and the other is just a wave passes in an area in which no essential Liche absorption of water takes place in a device be introduced due to the relative difference in the light intensities from the filter-detector Coming rays of light bring the water content in the liquid to be examined.
The device that measures the water content in liquid oil-based and similar liquids can continuously determine is characterized by that the device has at least two filter-detector Pairs, one of which filters only one wavelength passes in an area where the absorption of Water is big and the other is only one wavelength lets through in an area where no essential Absorption of water takes place, as well as an electronic Unit for comparing that from the radiation source light rays sent through the filters points, the relative difference in the light intensi act as a measure of the water content.
The main advantages of the procedure and the Device according to the invention are that with these is possible the water content in a liquid oil-based or in an appropriate liquid continuously without the need for a reference liquid to automatically determine and specify the application of the method e.g. in machines the paper industry taking into account the economics Mixing points of view is profitable: it is becoming rarer Downtimes with the machines arise while unnecessary lubricating oil changes are also avoided can.
According to one embodiment of the invention it is possible, the amount contained in the lubricant both to determine free and dissolved water. The possibility of increasing the amount of water dissolved measure is important when the permissible water content is very low and the lubricant is water-binding Contains components.

Fig. 3 shows the arrangement of another, the method according to the Invention, based on reflection, the device on a tube in which oil flows, the water content of which you want to determine.
In Fig. 1 is an inventive device, which consists essentially of a, with reference numeral 1 be designated measuring module and an electronic unit designated with reference number 2 , in a simple and recommendable manner using a side branch pipe and suitable means to an oil pipe 3 of the lubrication system a paper machine arranged in parallel.
The device is especially designed and intended for this direct arrangement on the process. A small part of the oil flowing in the pipe 3 is passed through the device and this continuously measures the water content in the oil flowing through. Seen in the flow direction of the oil, a pump 4 is arranged in front of the measuring module 1 , which serves primarily for this purpose. To break down the water contained in the oil flowing into the measuring module 1 into very small drops and to distribute it evenly in the oil, whereby extremely reliable measurement results can be obtained. Thanks to the pump 4 , the oil will also flow upwards, which is advantageous if the measuring module 1 is connected to an essentially horizontal pipe 3 .
As shown in FIG. 2 1, the measuring module of the device comprises a radiation source 5, a Durchströmküvette 6, two filters 7 and 8 and two detectors 9 and 10. As a radiation source, a conventional halogen lamp is used, which sends a broadband spectrum containing infrared rays to the oil to be examined, which is conveyed by the pump 4 and flows continuously through the narrow-slit flow cell 6 . The pump 4 is not necessary for the function of the device. The slit width of the cuvette is 0.5 mm, but can vary between 0.01 and 10 mm depending on the water content to be determined and the intended use. A slot width range of 0.1 to 1 mm is preferred. The liquid flowing in the cuvette 6 absorbs part of the light emitted by the radiation source 5 , a spectrum being visible on the other side of the cuvette 6 which is characteristic of the composition and the water content of the liquid to be measured. For this purpose, the device has two bandpass filters 7 and 8 arranged close to one another with corresponding detectors 9 and 10 . Filters 7 and 8 , which are interference filters in type, are of unitary construction and are close to each other. Thanks to this fact, the light that hits them is homogeneous, the mechanical reliability and durability are good, and error factors caused by temperature differences can be eliminated. The first filter-detector pair 7 , 9 forms a measuring channel and the second filter-detector pair 8 , 10 forms a reference channel. The filter 7 only allows a wavelength in a range from 2.9 to 3.0 μm, in which wavelength range the free water contained in the oil has a strong absorption peak. The bandwidth of the second filter 8 leaves only one wavelength in a range in which there is very little or no absorption. The interface between water and oil causes scattering of the rays, the effect of which on the measurement results is attempted to be taken into account by selecting the reference channel. In the case of filter 8 , the bandwidth is selected on the basis of the intended use and the interference factors prevailing in the measurement environment. For example, in an environment where there are paper machines, there can typically be water vapor, which causes measurement errors if the presence of the water vapor is not taken into account. The electronic unit 2 of the device analyzes the rays 11 and 12 coming from the first filter-detector pair 7 , 9 and from the second filter-detector pair 8 , 10 of the measuring module 1 and determines the content of the oil contained in them free water using the formula C = A ( I R - I M ) / I R in which C means the water content, I R represents the light transmission of the reference channel, I M stands for the light transmission of the measuring channel and A is a proportionality factor. A connection line 13 goes from the electronic unit 2 to a monitoring unit 14 shown in dashed lines, which serves to give an alarm, for example by means of a buzzer, when the water content exceeds a certain predetermined value, for example 0.2%. The monitoring unit 14 can be implemented in many different ways, which will be dealt with here because the monitoring unit 14 is not actually part of the present invention.
Fig. 3 shows a further embodiment of the present invention. In Fig. 3, the same reference numerals as in Fig. 2 are used for the same components. The device according to FIG. 3 differs from the embodiment according to FIG. 2 essentially only in that it does not have a flow-through cuvette, but instead has a prism 15 instead of the cuvette, which partially enters the rays coming from the radiation source 5 into the liquid to be examined leaves and on its surface 16 in contact with this, the rays are partially reflected onto the filter-detector pairs 7 , 9 and 8 , 10 . Just like in the off guide die according to FIG. 2, the relative difference is determined in the light intensities of the of the filter-detector pairs 7, 9 and 8, 10 coming rays which difference serves as a measure of the water content.
According to an embodiment of the device according to the invention, three filter-detector pairs are provided (the third filter-detector pair is not shown in FIG. ). The idea is that the first filter-detector pair forms a measuring channel and the second filter-detector pair forms a reference channel, with the help of these channels the content of the free water contained in the oil can be determined in the manner described above. The third pair of filters and detectors determines the amount of water dissolved in the oil. In the third pair of filters and detectors, a filter is used whose bandwidth is at somewhat shorter wavelengths than that of the first filter. The suitable bandwidth is found through experiments. The total amount of water contained in the oil is obtained by summing the amounts of free and dissolved water.
The invention has been explained above using some advantageous embodiments. However, the invention is in no way limited to only these embodiments, but the device and the idea according to the invention can be varied in many ways within the scope of the appended claims. For example, the wavelength range of the first bandpass filter 7 does not need to be between 2.9 and 3.0 μm for the functionality of the device, although this wavelength range is recommended, but it can alternatively, for example, 1.4 to 1.5 μm, 1.9 to 2.0 µm or 6.1 to 6.2 µm.
From the areas of application of the method and the Device according to the invention are also said to be diesel engines for ships, fuel systems for aircraft and the off-shore use may be mentioned.
