Ofen zur Erzeugung von S02-Gasen. Patentiert im Deutschen Reiche vom 7. Januar 1915 ab. Furnace for the production of S0 2 gases. Patented in the German Empire on January 7, 1915.
Furnaces for burning sulfur are used, for example, for disinfection purposes. Depending on the purpose of the disinfection, whether only insects or also bacteria are to be killed, a larger or smaller SO 2 content must be used. In the case of small rooms, simple sulfur-burning devices, which are filled with a corresponding amount of sulfur and burn out, are placed in the rooms to be treated and lit. When treating large storage tanks and hulls, the gases must be generated in a central system and sent to the rooms concerned In these systems, therefore, great emphasis is placed on uninterrupted operation and uniform generation of gas. These conditions are met by the furnace described below.
The one to be burned. Sulfur is put into a container b , which lies in an oil bath c , which is heated from the outside. The temperature of the oil bath is kept so high that the sulfur becomes thin. At the bottom of the tank there is a regulating valve for the sulfur outlet. This regulating valve is set in such a way that a certain amount of sulfur flows into the combustion chamber α below, in which it burns. Since the amount of air that is passed through the incinerator, as well as the continuously introduced amount of sulfur, can easily be measured, it is always possible to keep the SO 2 content within any limits. Furthermore, since a considerable amount of heat is released when the sulfur is burned to SO 2 , the hot gases can be used at the same time to melt the sulfur. The furnace therefore has two outlets for the gases generated. One leads from A ^ erbrennungsraum α c directly to the output, the second through the heating chamber for the sulfur d f to the exit. By appropriate adjustment of the two output slider e, and /, it is possible to keep the temperature of the molten bath at a constant level. The gases produced are then passed through a cooler in order to be cooled down to the air temperature and can thereupon, if necessary, be diluted with air before they are blown into the rooms to be treated.
In the case of the known sulfur-burning furnaces, the amount of heat released increases in the course of the operating time the sulfur melting, evaporation and combustion. These apparatuses can therefore not be used for uniform gas generation. The .Schulfel also has the unpleasant property that the viscosity increases very sharply with increasing temperature after melting, so that it z. B. at 250 0 C from an inverted vessel no longer flows out. The present construction takes account of all these inconveniences.
Die A^iskosität des geschmolzenen Schwefels ist also während der ganzen Betriebszeit gfleich undThe temperature in the oil bath c is kept at a constant level. The viscosity of the molten sulfur is therefore the same throughout the entire period of operation

Die gleichmäßige Temperatur des Ölbades wird durch den einstellbaren Umgang erreicht.likewise the outflow of sulfur from the melting chamber b at a certain position of the outflow valve. The even temperature of the oil bath is achieved through the adjustable handling.
Pro ioocbm Luft und ι ProzentBy means of a throttle disc installed between a differential manometer the amount of air flowing into the stove is measured. Per ioocbm air and ι percent
SO 2 content, 1.5 kg of sulfur must be burned. A liquid level indicator floating in the molten sulfur shows the amount of sulfur flowing out to the outflow regulating valve on a scale graduated in kg. Thereafter, the control valve can for eineii particular SO 2 content set of the gas and the gas quantity constantly be obtained when the temperature of the oil bath in the manner described above and the liquid level in the melting chamber by uniformly filling \ r on unmelted sulfur at the same height can be obtained.
