Abstract
Description
Description: This invention relates to apparatus for treatment of gases containing organic materials by means of oxidation; particularly concerns the invention a device for catalytic oxidation, which is a thin-walled Has honeycomb element with crossed passages.
A known device for the catalytic oxidation of non-flammable gases containing organic materials usually has a Oxidation layer in the shape of a ceramic pellet or a honeycomb element with parallel passages and carries a catalyst such as platinum or Palladium. In these oxidizing devices, the oxidation occurs at an increased level Temperature, which in turn depends on the gas to be treated. If, for example If a conversion of the oxidation reaction is desired, the temperature is in the inlet area of the catalyst layer for acrolein about 11,000, for n-hexane about 1900C and for ethyl acetate about 26000. Generally speaking, this is Temperature in the region of the initial stage of oxidation in the range from 130 to 1500C; the temperature in the catalytically active section is approximately 3000C. A an important factor for such a device concerns a saving in heat consumption. For this purpose it is common practice to have a heat exchange between the, low Temperature having inflowing gas and the high temperature having, the escaping gas. In the usual oxidation devices, however, are the sections for catalytic oxidation and for heat exchange arranged separately, which requires a large amount of space and high installation costs. Will continue with a conventional device only a heat recovery of about 40% achieved.
Starting from this, there is the essential object of the present invention in providing an improved apparatus for catalytic oxidation, which those discussed above Disadvantages of the known device does not have.
Another object of the present invention is to provide an improved To provide a catalytic oxidation device that has reduced dimensions having.

In the following, the invention is described in detail with reference to preferred Embodiments explained.
With Fig. 1 is a thin-walled honeycomb element for use in a device according to the invention for catalytic oxidation shown. That Honeycomb element 1 has at least three flat plates 2 (in the embodiment shown seven such flat plates), the mostly square shape and preferably have a square or rectangular shape. The flat plates 2 are at a distance arranged to each other, so that between at least two zones 3 (in the illustrated Embodiment six such zones 3) are formed. Each zone 3 is through one Number of parallel ribs, baffles or the like 4 or 4 'in number continuous channels 5 or 5 'divided. The longitudinal direction of the continuous channels 5 of a zone runs perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the continuous channels 5 'of the adjacent zone. In this way, the channels 5 form the odd Zones of the first passages P running in a first direction and the channels 5 ' of the even-numbered zones in a second, transverse direction Passages Q, which preferably run perpendicular to the first passages P.
With Fig. 2 is another embodiment of a thin-walled honeycomb element 101 shown, in which instead of the ribs or guide surfaces 4, 4 'of the element 1 corrugated plates 104, 104 'are provided. Analogous to FIG. 1 are again three or more flat plates (seven such in the illustrated embodiment flat plates) spaced apart so that two or more in axial Direction of zones arranged at a distance from one another (in the illustrated embodiment six such zones) are formed, each of which by the corrugated plates 104 or 104 'divided into a number of parallel, continuous channels 105 or 105' is. The corrugated plates 104 and 104 'are arranged alternately across one another, so that the element 101 extending in a first direction first passages P and having second passages Q extending in a second direction, the first Direction is preferably perpendicular to the second direction. The thin-walled honeycomb element preferably has the shape of a rectangular parallelepiped or a cube.
If we denote two pairs of opposing surfaces (where the Top and the underside of the element remain excluded) with the letters a, b, c and d, the first passages P extend from the opening a to the opening b, and the second passages Q from opening c to opening d.
Yorzugsweise bestehen die ebenen Platten 2, 102, die gewellten Platten 104, 104' und die Rippen oder Leitflächen 4, 4' aus Asbestpapier oder keramischem Papier mit einer Schichtdicke im Bereich von 0,1 bis 0,7 mm.Preferably, the flat plates 2, 102 consist of the corrugated plates 104, 104 'and the ribs or baffles 4, 4' made of asbestos paper or ceramic Paper with a layer thickness in the range from 0.1 to 0.7 mm.
To produce the honeycomb element 1, the band-shaped ribs 4, 4 'successively connected to the panels 2 by means of a suitable adhesive, to form the P and Q passages. The corrugated sheets can easily be in the Shape can be made that they have a shaft diameter in the range of 1.5 to Have 4 mm, which can be done by means of a wave machine. For the production of the honeycomb element 101 can, for example, be a corrugated plate with a flat Board are connected, the composite cut to the desired size and then one such composite is stacked on top of the other, until the desired number of alternating crossed channels is available.
For applying a catalyst to the honeycomb element, a known Dipping processes or any other coating process are used; this includes, for example, immersing the honeycomb element in an aqueous one Solution of one Silicon dioxide sol, the removal of the honeycomb element from this solution for drying, the coating of the honeycomb element obtained with (aluminum oxide to ensure increased mechanical strength, and that Applying a coating of the solution of a catalytically active metal, for example a platinum chloride solution, followed by a reduction treatment finally to obtain the element carrying the active catalyst. Instead of The catalyst can also deposit the catalyst on the honeycomb element applied to the flat plates and / or on the corrugated plates or the ribs before the assembly of the honeycomb element takes place. It is not in all Cases required the catalyst on the entire surface of the thin walls to apply the continuous channels; Rather, it may be enough to use the catalyst to be applied only to part of the gas inlet and gas outlet sections. this depends on the amount of heat of oxidation of the organic material to be treated as well as on the size e and the structure of the oxidizer.
With Figures 3 and 4 is an embodiment of the invention Device for catalytic oxidation shown, wherein the catalyst-supporting Honeycomb element is used. A housing belongs to this oxidation device 10 11, inside which the honeycomb element C carrying the catalyst is located.
The space between the housing 11 and the honeycomb element C is divided by partitions such as partitions 13, 14 and 15, the extend from the side edges of the honeycomb element C to the inner walls of the housing and thereby a first chamber 16, a second chamber 17 and a third chamber 18 form. The first chamber 16 is in communication with a gas inlet line 19, through which an exhaust gas to be treated is introduced into the device. The third Chamber 18 is provided with a gas outlet conduit 20 through which treated gas is withdrawn from the device. Preferably, the second chamber 17 contains one Heating device 21. In order to increase the effectiveness of the heating device 21, is preferred a guide plate 24 is provided. The second chamber 17 is in a suitable form with a Gas discharge line 22 connected to a portion of such gas that is abnormally high Has temperatures to derive.
In such an oxidizer, the flows with the help of a Blower 23 through the gas inlet line 19 in the first chamber 16 introduced gas through the opening a (serving as an inlet) through the first passages P. to the opening b (serving as an outlet) and then into the second chamber 17. Thereupon the gas flows through the opening c (serving as an inlet) through the second passages Q through to opening d (serving as an outlet) and then into the third chamber 18. At some of the organic materials contained in the gas occurs in the course the passage of gas through the first passages P an exothermic oxidation reaction on; the remaining portion of the organic constituents becomes in the course of the gas passage oxidized through the second passages Q, so that the organic materials are decomposed in water and carbon dioxide, which then passes out of the device the gas outlet line 20 can be discharged. Since the first passages P of the second passages Q are only separated by flat plates, the effectiveness is the heat exchange between these passages is very high.
With Figures 5 and 6 is an alternative embodiment of the invention Oxidation device shown. Here, FIG. 5 shows the device with removed upper cover in perspective and FIG. 6 a Top view of this device. In this embodiment, the catalyst is next to it supporting honeycomb element C an additional, catalyst-free honeycomb element E is provided, that serves as a heat exchanger. This oxidation device 30 has a housing 31 on, within which the honeycomb elements C and E are located. The gap between the housing 31 and the honeycomb elements C and E is by partitions 33, 34, 35, 36 and 37 divided between the inner wall of the housing 31 and the side edges of the honeycomb elements C and E extend; furthermore is a subdivision 38 is provided between the honeycomb elements C and E, so that a total of a first chamber 39, a second chamber 40, a third chamber 41, a fourth chamber 42 and a fifth chamber 43 are formed. The first chamber 39 is provided with a gas inlet pipe 44 connected, through which an exhaust gas to be treated is introduced into the device will. The fifth chamber 43 is connected to a gas outlet line 45 through which the treated gas from the Device is withdrawn.
One introduced into the first chamber 39 through the gas inlet conduit 44 Gas flows through under the action of a conveyor device (not shown) the first passages P of the honeycomb element E into the second chamber 40 and then through the second passages P 'of the honeycomb element C into the third chamber 41; thereupon the gas flows in turn through the second passages Q 'of the honeycomb element C in the fourth chamber 42 and finally through the second passages Q of the honeycomb element E into the fifth chamber 43, as indicated by the arrows in FIG.
A heating device is preferably located within the third chamber 41 46 provided to the gas in addition to that for the implementation of the catalytic Oxidation required to heat temperature. In this case it is preferable a guide plate 47 is provided to the one from the first passages P of the honeycomb element C to supply exiting gas to the heater 46, so that the gas from the Heater 46 can be effectively heated.
Thus, the low temperature, in the passages P des Honeycomb element E introduced gas from the high temperature, oxidized Preheated gas flowing through passages Q because heat exchange takes place. This preheating makes the catalytic oxidation in the honeycomb element C stronger promoted, than with a device according to FIG. 3. Since both the Passages P 'and Q' of the honeycomb element C as well as the passages P and Q of the honeycomb element E are only separated from each other by thin flat plates, is the effective one Heat transfer very high.
In the device of FIG. 3, an area occurs around the gas inlet around whose temperature is lower than the effective oxidation temperature of the organic materials, especially if the inflowing, to be treated Gas has a low temperature; provided the gas also contains organic materials which require a high initial oxidation temperature will thereby the effectiveness of the oxidation is reduced. Due to the arrangement of the heat exchange element E in front of the catalytically active element C can remove the heat of the, thanks to the oxidation treatment in the honeycomb element C having a high temperature gas from the in this honeycomb element C introduced gas can be absorbed, so that the heat recovery is markedly improved will. In addition, since the inlet area of the honeycomb element C is enlarged, can the inside of element C is uniformly brought to a high temperature, so that more than 99% of the organic materials contained in the introduced gas can be oxidized and removed.
Referring to Fig. 7, there is still another embodiment of the present invention Invention shown. In this embodiment, the catalytically active element C has a section CE that does not have a Contains catalyst, as well a further section Oc which has a catalytically active coating. The partition plates 50, 51, 52 and 53 divide the space between the Housing and the four side surfaces of the honeycomb element C into the four chambers 54, 55, 56 and 57. The chamber 54 is connected to the gas inlet line, and the chamber 57 is connected to the gas discharge line. The partition plate 53 goes from the boundary between sections CE and Cc. Similar to the device According to FIG. 6, this embodiment according to FIG. 7 also ensures an improved one Heat recovery such as an increased oxidizing effect.
Sofern dies angestrebt wird, kann eine Anzahl von katalytisch aktiven Elementen C und eine Anzahl von Wärmetauschelementen vorgesehen werden.8, there is still another embodiment of the present Invention illustrated; this embodiment includes a heat exchange element E and two catalytically active elements Cl and This arrangement is particularly recommended for the oxidation of organic materials that are not easy to oxidize. Provided this is aimed at, a number of catalytically active elements C and one Number of heat exchange elements are provided.
The following examples serve to illustrate the invention, without restricting them.
Example 1: For the production of a catalytically active honeycomb element C were 0.2mm thick sheets of ceramic paper up to one Corrugated shaft diameter of 2 mm and brought to a size of 350 x 350 mm; then, these corrugated sheets were attached to flat plates of the same size and thus laminated to finally include the honeycomb element shown in FIG to obtain a height of 350 mm; a coating was placed on this honeycomb element applied from platinum catalyst layers. With this honeycomb element C was a Oxidation device according to Fig. 4 assembled. One containing 20 ppm toluene Gas (i.e. 20 parts of toluene to one million parts of gas) was delivered at a flow rate of 250 m3 / h introduced into this oxidation device for oxidation treatment.
So much energy was supplied to an electric heater that to increase the temperature of the gas flowing through by 200C. As a result of the oxidation treatment the toluene content in the withdrawn gas was reduced to 1 ppm. To the appropriate Areas of the oxidizer were the temperatures given below determined: gas inlet 1600 C; second chamber (upstream of the heater) 2780 C; second chamber (downstream of the heater) 3000 C; Gas outlet 1810 C; Heat wi e de profitability: 85%.
In this oxidizer, the sections are for heat exchange and arranged for oxidation as a unit. Because the gas in one direction flows through the catalytically active honeycomb element mainly for oxidation purposes and in the other direction mainly to give off heat to that to be oxidized Gas flows, and these gas flows are only separated from each other by thin plates , this oxidizer has high heat recovery and compact design and can be manufactured inexpensively.
An oxidizer shown in FIG. 6 was used assembled and tested. For this purpose, analogously to Example 1, two of the with Fig. 2 honeycomb elements shown with the dimensions 150 x 150 x 150 mm; the corrugation diameter of the corrugated arches was 0.2 mm. On one of these honeycomb servants platinum catalyst coatings were applied to the catalytically active honeycomb element To get C; in contrast, the other honeycomb element was used as a heat exchanger element E used. A gas containing 120 ppm of toluene was at a flow rate of 60 m3 / h introduced into the oxidation device for oxidation. As a result of oxidation the toluene content in the vented gas was reduced to approximately 1 ppm; the heat recovery was 91.9%; the following were applied to the individual areas of the device Temperatures determined: Gas inlet 220 C; second chamber 1500 C; third chamber (upstream of the heater) 2770 C; third chamber (downstream to the heating device) 3000 C; fourth chamber 1620 C; Gas outlet 450 C.
The invention can be implemented in special embodiments, without departing from the basic idea or the essential characteristics of the invention. The described embodiments are in all respects only illustrative and are not intended to limit the invention.
