Claims (25)

1. Trackball-Gerät mit haptischer Verbindung in Verbindung mit einem Host-Computer, der ein Host-Anwendungsprogramm imple­ mentiert, wobei das haptische Rückkopplungsgerät von einem Benutzer verwendet wird, um dem Host-Computer Eingaben zu liefern, wobei das haptische Rückkopplungsgerät aufweist:
ein Gehäuse, das von dem Benutzer physisch berührt wird;
eine in dem Gehäuse angeordnete Kugel, wobei die Kugel in zwei Rotationsfreiheitsgraden durch den Benutzer drehbar ist;
ein mit dem Gehäuse verbundenes Sensorgerät, wobei das Sen­ sorgerät die Bewegung der Kugel in ihren Rotationsfrei­ heitsgraden erfasst und Sensorsignale ausgibt, welche die Bewegung wiedergeben; sowie
einen mit dem Gehäuse verbundenen Aktor, wobei der Aktor betrieben wird, um eine Kraft annähernd entlang einer ein­ zigen Achse auf das Gehäuse auszuüben, wobei die Kraft auf den Benutzer übertragen wird, der das Gehäuse berührt.
2. Trackball-Gerät mit haptischer Rückkopplung gemäß Anspruch 1, wobei das Gehäuse auf einer Auflagefläche ruht und wobei die Kraft entlang einer einzigen Achse ausgegeben wird, die im wesentlichen rechtwinklig zu der Auflagefläche ist.
3. Trackball-Gerät gemäß Anspruch 2, wobei die Kraft eine Trägheitskraft ist, die annähernd entlang der Achse ausge­ lesen wird, die im wesentlichen rechtwinklig zu der Auflagefläche ist, wobei der Aktor die Trägheitskraft auf das Gehäuse ausgibt, indem eine Trägheitsmasse bewegt wird.
4. Trackball-Gerät gemäß Anspruch 3, wobei die Trägheitskraft mit einer durch den Hast-Computer dargestellten Grafikwie­ dergabe in Beziehung gesetzt wird, wobei eine Position der Kugel in ihren Rotationsfreiheitsgraden einer Position ei­ nes in der Grafikwiedergabe dargestellten Zeigers ent­ spricht.
5. Trackball-Gerät gemäß Anspruch 3, wobei die Trägheitskraft ein Impuls ist, der zu der Interaktion eines benutzerge­ steuerten Zeigers mit einem in einer grafischen Benutzer­ schnittstelle dargestellten Grafikobjekts in Beziehung ge­ setzt wird.
6. Trackball-Gerät gemäß Anspruch 5, wobei der Impuls ausgege­ ben wird, wenn sich der Zeiger zwischen Menüpunkte in einem dargestellten Grafikmenü bewegt.
7. Trackball-Gerät gemäß Anspruch 1, wobei die Kraft in einer Kraftempfindung enthalten ist, wobei die Kraftempfindung ein Impuls, eine Vibration sowie eine Texturkraft sein kann.
8. Trackball-Gerät gemäß Anspruch 1, wobei die Kraft eine Be­ rührungskraft ist, die unter Verwendung des Aktors durch den Antrieb eines beweglichen Elementes bereitgestellt wird, das den Benutzer berührt.
9. Trackball-Gerät gemäß Anspruch 1, wobei das bewegliche Ele­ ment ein Abdeckabschnitt des Gehäuses ist, wobei der Abdeckabschnitt mit einem Bodenabschnitt des Gehäuses beweg­ lich verbunden ist.
10. Trackball-Gerät gemäß Anspruch 8, wobei das bewegliche Ele­ ment ein Schaltknopf ist, wobei der Schaltknopf auch zur Bereitstellung einer Schaltknopfeingabe an den Host-Compu­ ter dient.
11. Trackball-Gerät gemäß Anspruch 1, wobei mindestens ein nachgiebiges Element mit dem Gehäuse verbunden ist, wobei das nachgiebige Element das Gehäuse auf der Auflagefläche trägt und eine Nachgiebigkeit enthält, wobei es die Nach­ giebigkeit ermöglicht, dass die Kraft eine größere Ampli­ tude aufweist, als wenn das Gehäuse die Auflagefläche di­ rekt berühren würde.
12. Trackball-Gerät gemäß Anspruch 11, wobei mindestens ein nachgiebiges Element Gummi oder Schaum aufweist.
13. Trackball-Gerät gemäß Anspruch 1, weiterhin enthaltend ei­ nen Mikroprozessor, der von dem Host-Computer getrennt und mit dem Sensorgerät und dem Aktor verbunden ist, wobei der Mikroprozessor betrieben wird, um Host-Befehle von dem Host-Computer zu empfangen und Kraftsignale zur Steuerung der Kraft an den Aktor auszugeben und betrieben wird, um Sensorsignale von dem Sensorgerät zu empfangen, die Sensor­ signale zu verarbeiten und Positionsdaten an den Host-Com­ puter zu berichten, die von den Sensorsignalen abgeleitet sind und die Bewegung in der Kugel angeben.
14. Trackball-Gerät gemäß Anspruch 1, wobei der Aktor die Kraft als Antwort auf einen Befehl ausgibt, der durch das Track­ ball-Gerät von dem Host-Computer empfangen wurde.
15. Trackball-Gerät mit haptischer Rückkopplung in Verbindung mit einem ein Host-Anwendungsprogramm implementierenden Host-Computer, wobei das haptische Rückkopplungsgerät von einem Benutzer verwendet wird, um dem Host-Computer Einga­ ben zu liefern, wobei das haptische Rückkopplungsgerät auf­ weist:
ein Gehäuse, das von dem Benutzer physisch berührt wird, wobei das Gehäuse auf einer Auflagefläche ruht;
eine in dem Gehäuse angeordnete Kugel, wobei die Kugel in zwei Rotationsfreiheitsgraden drehbar ist;
ein mit dem Gehäuse verbundenes Sensorgerät, wobei das Sen­ sorgerät die Bewegung der Kugel in ihren Rotationsfrei­ heitsgraden erfasst und Sensorsignale ausgibt, welche die Bewegung wiedergeben;
einen mit dem Gehäuse verbundenen Aktor, wobei der Aktor betrieben wird, um auf das Gehäuse eine Kraft auszugeben, wobei die Kraft auf den Benutzer übertragen wird, der das Gehäuse berührt; sowie
mindestens ein nachgiebiges Element, das zwischen einem durch den Benutzer berührten Gehäuseabschnitt und die Auf­ lagefläche gekoppelt ist, wobei mindestens ein nachgiebiges Element die von dem Aktor ausgegebene Kraft verstärkt, in­ dem dem berührten Abschnitt des Gehäuses ermöglicht wird, sich in Bezug auf die Auflagefläche zu bewegen.
16. Trackball-Gerät gemäß Anspruch 15, wobei mindestens ein nachgiebiges Element mindestens einen nachgiebigen Fuß enthält, der zwischen dem Gehäuse und der Auflagefläche vorge­ sehen ist.
17. Trackball-Gerät gemäß Anspruch 15, wobei mindestens ein nachgiebiges Element eine nachgiebige Verbindung enthält, die zwischen dem berührten Abschnitt des Gehäuses und einem anderen Abschnitt des Gehäuses vorgesehen ist.
18. Trackball-Gerät gemäß Anspruch 15, wobei die Kraft annä­ hernd entlang einer Achse ausgegeben wird, die im wesentli­ chen rechtwinklig zu der Auflagefläche ist.
19. Trackball-Gerät gemäß Anspruch 15, wobei die Kraft zu der Interaktion eines benutzergesteuerten Zeigers mit einem in einer Grafikumgebung dargestellten Grafikobjekts in Bezie­ hung gesetzt wird.
20. Trackball-Gerät gemäß Anspruch 15, wobei die Kraft eine Trägheitskraft ist und wobei der Aktor die Trägheitskraft auf das Gehäuse ausgibt, indem eine Trägheitsmasse bewegt wird.
21. Trackball-Gerät gemäß Anspruch 20, wobei der Aktor in einer Aktoranordnung vorgesehen ist, die ein Biegeteil enthält, wobei das Biegeteil eine zentrierende Federkraft für die Trägheitsmasse bereitstellt.
22. Trackball-Gerät gemäß Anspruch 15, wobei die Kraft eine Be­ rührungskraft ist und wobei der Aktor ein bewegliches Ele­ ment antreibt, das den Benutzer berührt.

Trackball-Gerät gemäß Anspruch 15, weiterhin mit einem Mi­ kroprozessor, der von dem Host-Computer getrennt und mit dem Sensor und dem Aktor verbunden ist, wobei der Mikropro­ zessor betrieben wird, um Host-Befehle von dem Host-Compu­ ter zu empfangen und Kraftsignale zur Steuerung der Kraft an den Aktor auszugeben und betrieben wird, um die Sensor­ signale von den Sensoren zu empfangen, die Sensorsignale zu verarbeiten und dem Host-Computer Positionsdaten zu berich­ ten, die aus den Sensorsignalen abgeleitet wurden und die Bewegung der Kugel angeben.
24. Trackball-Gerät gemäß Anspruch 15, wobei der Aktor ein ers­ ter Aktor ist und weiterhin mit einem zweiten Aktor zur Ausgabe einer Kraft auf die Kugel in einer der beiden Frei­ heitsgraden der Kugel.
25. Trackball-Gerät gemäß Anspruch 24, wobei der zweite Aktor eine passive Bremse ist, um einen Widerstand für die Bewe­ gung der Kugel zu liefern.
