The present invention relates to an arrangement for shaping and guiding Radiation from at least n straight-line laser diode arrays, the beam exit of which openings run in a direction lying in the x-z plane and their beam len bundles are emitted in the x-z plane by means of imaging optics and on optical elements are guided at a defined angle of incidence, where m optical elements in the y-direction in planes one above the other, forming a unit, ge are stacked, the x, y and z directions being a right-angled coordinate system and n, m are positive integers.
An arrangement of the type described above is for example from the DE-A1 44 38 368 known.
Laser diodes, also known as semiconductor lasers, are increasing in many areas mend used, for example for the optical pumping of solid-state lasers or for material processing. The performance of the laser diodes necessary for this stretch from a few 100 W to the kilowatt range. To ho laser diodes A large number of laser diodes become one or two when scaling power dimensional laser diode arrays or field arrays summarized to the Add the laser powers of the individual laser diodes.
High-power laser diodes have a highly asymmetrical beam distribution. In the case of laser diode bars (a one-dimensional, linear laser diode array), for example, the outer dimensions of the emitting aperture at the laser exit are approximately 0.001 mm × 10 mm and the beam divergence is approximately (30 °... 50 °) × 5 ° (vertical × parallel to the pn junction plane; half the opening angle is specified, defined by the 1 / e 2 drop in the radiation intensity). Typical dimensions of the laser diode bars are 10 mm × 0.6 mm × 0.1 mm (width × depth × height). In order to add the beams of the individual laser diodes of the laser diode array, it is advantageous if the beam exit openings of the individual laser diodes are very close to one another in one plane, so that compact arrangements can be achieved. A limiting factor here is the sufficient cooling of the individual laser diodes or laser diode bars, for which purpose they are mounted on suitable heat sinks. Microchannel coolers made of silicon or copper, for example, are used as heat sinks, which are actively cooled by means of cooling fluid which is guided through the microchannel structure of the microchannel cooler. Typical dimensions of such heat sinks are, for example, a cross-sectional area of approx. 12 mm × 20 mm (width × depth) and a height in the range of 1. . . 10 mm. This means that the height of the heat sink is significantly larger than the height of the mounted laser diode bar.
As already mentioned above, a known method for the beam addition of laser diode bars is the linear stack arrangement. For this purpose, the laser diodes, which are each mounted on a heat sink, are arranged one above the other so that the pn junction planes of the individual laser diodes are aligned as parallel as possible to one another. Such linear stack arrangements are used, for example, for the optical pumping of cuboid laser media in so-called rod laser configurations. The pump light is irradiated over a large area through the side surfaces of the laser medium. A strong concentration of the radiation is therefore not necessary. A bundling of the radiation is necessary, however, if high radiation densities (radiation power per surface and solid angle, W / m 2 sr) and / or a small cross-sectional area of the radiation are required. This requires beam shaping of the laser diode radiation. For this beam shaping, a cylindrical collimation lens is installed in front of each laser diode bar, which collimates the radiation in the strongly divergent direction. In order to achieve the highest possible packing density, the heat sinks with mounted laser diodes and the collimation optics must have a very low height and be packed very closely one above the other. With decreasing height and thus size of the heat sinks, however, their cooling capacity is reduced and the necessary manufacturing effort increases. If the cooling capacity is not sufficient, this can lead to a distortion of the support surface, which is transferred to the mounted laser diodes in an unfavorable manner and can then lead to incorrect adjustments. Therefore, the requirement for a high packing density of the laser diode bars runs counter to the requirement for an optimized construction of the heat sink.
Another requirement to use single laser diode bars to laser diodes Scaling higher power densities is that one superimposed Beams emitted by the laser diodes are as small as possible have spacing. This means that the cylindrical collimation elements te must be arranged very close to each other, at the same time another very precise adjustment is required. This reduces the allowable tolerances for the lens dimension and, given given manufacturing tolerances, leads to the fact that after a certain number of laser diodes arranged one above the other a Ju the collimation elements is no longer possible. Thereby is given the number of laser diodes and the maximum radiation level limited the stacking arrangement. In addition, the collimation optics up to Edge used and illuminated. The edge area of the Collimation optics impaired optical quality and unwanted diffraction effects on the sharply delimited lens aperture.
Another disadvantage of this stacking arrangement as stated above is the asymmetrical beam distribution. Assuming the distance between the lasers diodes of only 2 mm result in an emitting aperture of 100 laser diodes about 10 mm × 200 mm. This requires comparatively for further beam shaping large diameter of the optical elements, such as lenses, and is there due to comparatively high imaging errors and costs.
Furthermore, DE-A1 43 12 911 describes a device for dividing a laser known high power beam in two or four individual beams. The rays of light lay gen in a common plane and make an angle of 90 ° to each other a.
Starting from the prior art described at the beginning and the first The specified problem of beam addition of individual laser diodes lies in the present invention the object of an arrangement for molding and Guidance of radiation from at least n-straight line laser diode arrays or La to create serdiode bars that are compact in a confined space can be without affecting the cooling effectiveness of the overall arrangement pregnant, and the others, based on the prior art largely avoids the problems shown.
The above task is in an arrangement with the features as one gangs are listed, solved in that at least m: (n - l) of the optical ele elements are provided, where n ≧ 3 and l is the integer part of the quotient n / k is their deflecting surfaces proji on a common plane in the x-z plane adorned, are oriented at an angle to each other that the at least three in on successive levels in the y-direction stacked laser diode arrays into one Unit of k laser diode arrays are combined, where k is a positive, whole Is number and 3 ≦ k ≦ n, and where the first laser diode array of the unit is assigned to the first optical element, the second laser diode array the second optical element is assigned to the unit and continues until the (k-1) th laser diode array is assigned the (k-1) th optical element and the elements the Beams on the deflection surfaces in an essentially common direction of radiation deflect the device, and the kth laser diode array directly or through another opti emits element without deflection in the direction of radiation, so that the beam Len shares, at least in one mapping level, to an essentially common Men radiation direction can be summarized, and that the sequence of levels with regard to the arrangement of the respective laser diode arrays and their associated th respective optical elements in the y direction above and / or below the Unity with more than k levels according to the sequence of levels of unity repeated.
The arrangement according to the invention has the advantage that the laser diode arrays change be arranged in layers one above the other so that there is sufficient space remains to arrange the respective heat sink and the imaging optics in this way NEN, that these components are in the immediately adjacent levels do not interfere with each other, as they project onto each other, perpendicular to the planes seen, only in every kth level an orientation corresponding to the first levels tion of the respective laser diode array is repeated. This leaves enough Adequate free space around the heat sinks assigned to the laser diode arrays are large enough to achieve effective cooling. Dar there is also sufficient space for the collimation optics to be large enough dimension so that the edge zones do not have to be used and Fig application errors, as described above in the context of the discussion on the prior art are explained can be avoided. About the respective optical elements or deflection surfaces, which are each assigned to the laser diode arrays, that deflected respective beams in a direction that is essentially one Direction corresponds in which a laser diode array of the unit from at least three La emits diode arrays directly. This means that in a unit that consists of k Ebe NEN, with each level being assigned a laser diode array, one of these laser diode arrays radiates directly, without a radiation deflection, while the radiation from the (k-1) other laser diode arrays is reversed in this radiation direction is steered. To such a basic unit consisting of k laser diode arrays arranges in k levels, with another laser diode array in an additional level To expand ne, the order is followed that of the order in this one unit consisting of the k planes, so that the laser diode array corresponds to this additional level, viewed in a projection perpendicular to the respective levels is positioned in an area that is the kth level above or below, each depending on which side this additional layer is added to. It it can be seen that the laser diode arrays of the individual levels when the Basic unit is made up of k such levels, at k different locations of the respective levels are arranged, for example, starting from one square or rectangular geometry, on three sides of this fictional square or rectangle while emitting toward the fourth side. It's on possible units based on this principle according to the invention, which of an arrangement geometry of the laser diode arrays in the form of a polygon with more go out as four pages, alternately the individual pages of such Polygons alternately a laser diode array in superimposed levels ray is assigned until all pages apart from one page are entered into the is emitted, such a laser diode array is assigned and the sequence begin repeated with the laser diode array of the first level.
Based on the principle as explained above, a preferred option is to redirect the radiation components in the respective levels given a compact structure of the arrangement given that the deflecting surfaces are formed by edges of prismatic plates. In this plat The radiation is set from one side edge and on mirrored surfaces edge deflected. The surfaces deflecting the radiation can also by mirrored surfaces of other bodies, preferably plate-shaped parts, ge be formed. Such prismatic plates have in a preferred embodiment in the x-z planes each have the shape of a right-angled triangle. This prismatic plate Then, in a further advantageous arrangement, the planes coincide other oriented with their deflection surface so that the deflection surfaces, in y-Rich tung, d. H. perpendicular to the respective planes, seen at an angle of et wa are oriented 90 ° to each other. In such a case, two will then oppose Overlying pages, if you look at all the levels in projection on top of each other emits while from the third side, which is then at an angle of 90 ° to the sen both sides, the radiation emitted by that laser diode array whose radiation is essentially not redirected. In this beam direction the radiation from the laser diode arrays will then lie below or above it deflected the plane through the deflecting surfaces.
An analogous arrangement to that as explained above results through the use of mirror surfaces that deflect the radiation components. Such mirrored surfaces can be applied to respective moldings, for example, on an edge of a plate-shaped shaped body, whereby a simple adjustment results. The radiation from the third laser diode array, in the case of three levels, in which the laser diode arrays are arranged, is represented by one Free space only passed through in a collimated manner. Another measure that a Justie tion is also possible if a rectangular plate is in this free space is arranged, which at the same time as a contact surface for the preferably plate-shaped gene serves deflection elements in the above and below the level which pass through the radiation without significantly influencing the beam path leads.
In order to further reduce the adjustment effort of the arrangement to a minimum, the optical elements can be formed from a block or from blocks, then the respective free spaces, deflected by the laser diode radiation is passed freely through corresponding recesses, for example Schlit ze or other cuts in the block, are formed while the Umlenkflä which are mirrored surfaces of the block or blocks.

First, the first embodiment of an arrangement for shaping and guiding radiation from straight-line laser diode arrays is described. The Anord voltage, as shown schematically in Fig. 1, is seen against the emerging laser radiation 4 (see Fig. 2), shown, ie from the direction of the arrow II in Fig. 2nd
The basic unit from which the arrangement as shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 is constructed comprises a first prism plate 1 , a rectangular plate 2 and a second prism plate 3 . The respective plates 1, 2 and 3 are entiert in an xz plane ori and stacked in the y-direction as indicated by the respective coor dinates axes x, y and z in Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 is indicated. The rectangular plate 2 has a square shape, as can be seen in Fig. 2, whereas the triangular prism plates 1 and 3 have the shape of a right-angled, isosceles triangle in plan view. The lengths of the catheter sides 5 of these prism plates 1 , 3 essentially correspond to the edge length of the square rectangular plate 2 . The respective hypotenuse sides 7 of the first prism plate 1 and the second prism plate 3 of each unit are mirrored and bil the reflection or deflection surfaces 6 , which, when projected in the y direction, are oriented at an angle 8 of 90 ° to one another. The rectangular plate 2 be made of a transparent material for the wavelength of the laser radiation, such as glass in the visible wavelength range or in the near infrared region. Alternatively, the rectangular plate 2 can be replaced by a free space and elements that are arranged outside the irradiated free space.
As a joint examination of FIGS. 1 and 2 clarifies, each Pris menplatte 1 , 3 and each rectangular plate 2 is assigned a linear laser diode array 9.1 , 9.2 and 9.3 with an extension in the xz plane. The laser diode arrays 9.1 , 9.2 and 9.3 are each mounted on a heat sink 10 . Furthermore, each of the laser diode arrays 9.1 , 9.2 and 9.3 has collimation optics 11 , specifically in the embodiments as shown in the figures, in the form of a cylindrical lens, assigned to the laser diode radiation, largely collimated, on the deflection surfaces 6 of the opposite ones Prism plate 1 , 3 to guide.
As is clear under joint consideration of FIGS. 1 and 2, the depending weiligen laser diode arrays 9.1, 9.2 and 9.3, the deflection surfaces 6 of the first Pris menplatte 1 of the end face 12 of the rectangular plate 2 and the deflecting surface 6 of the second prism plate 3, a unit represent, assigned and distributed in order around the three sides. This unit then repeats this sequence of assigning the respective laser diode arrays 9.1 , 9.2 and 9.3 to the first prism plate 1 , the rectangular plate 2 and the second prism plate 3 in the planes which follow. Through this alternate assignment of the laser diode arrays 9.1 , 9.2 and 9.3 , the spacing between adjacent heat sinks 10 , indicated in FIG. 1 by h DL , corresponding to three times the height h PE , viewed in the y direction, of the respective prisms and rectangular plates 1 , 2 and 3 are used without these heat sinks 10 interfering with each other. The entire space available around the arrangement in relation to the three sides of the square or rectangular projected base area is thus utilized.
The beam path results as indicated in FIG. 2. The radiation of the laser diode array 9.1 of the lowest level, ie the right, lower laser diode array 9.1 in Fig. 1, is directed to the hypothenus side 7 , which serves as a mirrored deflection surface 6 , the opposite first prism plate 1 and deflected by 90 °, so that the beams 4 are deflected in the main emission direction, indicated by the arrow 13 . The next laser diode array 9.2 is arranged in the plane seen in the y direction, which shines into the end face 12 of the rectangular plate 2 , the laser radiation emerging from the opposite end face 14 , ie the laser radiation of this laser diode array is deflected directly in the direction of the main emission direction 13 delivered. The laser diode array 9.3 , which is on the left in FIG. 2 and which shines on the hypothenus side 7 of the second prism plate 3 , is positioned on the next level above. Corresponding to the first prism plate 1 , this radiation is deflected on the mirrored surface or the deflection surface 6 due to the angle of incidence of 45 ° in the direction of the main emission direction 13 , ie by 90 °. In relation to the next level, which lies above the second prism plate 3 , the sequence of the arrangement of the most prism plate 1 , the rectangular plate 2 and the second prism plate 3 is repeated, so that a seen from the direction of the arrow II in Fig. 2 Structure is achieved, as shown in FIG. 1. All of the radiation 4 can be largely shaped by the additional lens 27 , e.g. B. are collimated.
Due to the collimation optics 11 , which is assigned to each laser diode array 9.1 , 9.2 , 9.3 , the radiation from the individual laser diode arrays, which is highly divergent in the y-direction, can be radiated almost parallel to the deflection surfaces 6 , so that the cover surfaces of the respective Elements above and below do not have an essential function in the beam guidance. If the divergence of the laser radiation according to the imaging optics 11 is still so large that the top surfaces are struck by the radiation, the top surfaces can also serve for additional beam guidance. Depending on the version, the plate elements can also be used as a mounting stop or as a support surface for the heat sink 10 of the Laserdiodenar rays 9 or for the imaging optics, for which purpose they can be lengthened and profiled accordingly.
Since the prism plates 1 , 3 and the rectangular plate 2 each have the same dimensions or edge lengths, several of these arrangements can be processed together, such as by optical polishing of the prism or the deflecting surfaces. When building up the plate stack, suitable spacing elements (not shown) can be inserted in the planes of the prism plates, which then serve as a support for the plate above or below. For example, two prismatic plates can also be cemented to one another with the prismatic edge, one plate then serving as the prismatic plate that has the deflection surface 6 , while the other prismatic plate is used as a spacing element. In this arrangement, in contrast to the arrangements of FIGS. 1 and 2, a prism plate is irradiated into each side and the radiation in this prism plate is guided up to the corresponding deflection surface. A suitable thin coating of the top surfaces of the plate elements, for example with a medium with a lower refractive index than that of the plate medium, could prevent radiation from penetrating into the neighboring plate elements.
The rectangular plates 2 , as explained above with reference to the embodiment of FIGS. 1 and 2, can be omitted if, in another way, the parallel direction can be ensured by suitable spacing elements between the prism plates 1 , 2 . In such a case, instead of the rectangular plate 2 , a space or space would be left which the laser radiation of the laser diode array associated with this plane, for example the laser diode array 9.2 , passes through in the ambient medium (for example air) without one in this radiation area further optical element would have to be arranged.
In a further, second embodiment, which is shown in FIGS. 3 and 4, instead of a stack of the individual prism plates 1 , 3 and, if appropriate, the rectangular plate 2, a single prism 15 can be used, in the case of FIG. 3, a right-angled prism with two equally long cathets 16 , 17 . The cathets 16 , 17 are with respect to the individual levels in alternating ge antireflective (in Fig. 4 denoted by AR or hatched) and highly reflective (hatched in the figures labeled HR) are coated.
The hypothenus side 18 of the individual prism plates 15 are coated on all levels with a tireflective (AR) coating. Coupling prism plates 19 and 20 , which are each assigned to the side surfaces 16 and 17 of the individual prism 15 , serve to couple the radiation from the respective laser diode array 29.2 and 29.1 into the prism 15 without beam deflection. The beam path of this arrangement according to FIGS. 3 and 4 with respect to the laser diode arrays 29.1 , 29.2 and 29.3 is as follows. The radiation of the upper laser diode array 29.1 in FIG. 3 first passes through a coupling prism plates 20 without deflection, then passes through an antireflection-coated strip of the catheter side 16 of the prism 15 and becomes through a highly reflective coated strip of the opposite cathetus side 17 to the hypothenus side 18 deflected towards where the laser radiation 4 emerges. The radiation from the second laser diode stack 29.2 , which is shown in Fig. 3 bottom left, which is arranged in the next, following level, first passes through the coupling prism 19 and then enters the anti-reflective coated catheter side 17 , and passes through the prism 15 without deflection, so that the radiation emerges from the hypothenus side 18 . The radiation from the third laser diode array 29.3 , which in FIG. 3 is assigned to the hypothenus side 18 of the prism 15, which is arranged in the plane which corresponds to the plane with the upper prism 10 , enters the hypothenus side 18 of the prism 15 of this plane one, is then deflected on the highly reflective coated catheter side 16 of this prism 15 , so that it strikes the second catheter side 17 , which is also highly reflective, so that the radiation is then directed back to the hypothenus side 18 and there in the Main beam direction emerges.
The sequence of the arrangement of the individual laser diode arrays 29.1 , 29.2 and 29.3 with respect to the individual levels and the corresponding coating of the catheter sides 16 , 17 and the hypothenus side 18 of the prism 15 of each level is repeated as explained above, and in Fig . 4 is shown, with the layer sequence of the basic unit is repeated in the y-direction. The advantage of this embodiment is the increased stability and the simple manufacture of the prisms, which have larger dimensions in comparison to the individual prism plates, which were explained with the aid of the embodiment of FIGS . 1 and 2, because of the repetitive type of coating, namely highly reflective, the prisms plates of two adjacent levels can be combined. However, it is also possible to produce a single prism block which has an extension in the y direction which corresponds to the total height of all levels of the stack, in which case the individual catheter sides 16 , 17 and the hypothenus side 18 are then coated as shown in FIG . 4 is shown.
A third embodiment is shown in FIGS. 5 and 6. This arrangement corresponds in principle to the arrangement shown in FIGS. 3 and 4, but the individual prisms 15 , 19 and 20 have been replaced by a prism block 21 , the geometry of which corresponds to the two other prisms 19 and 20 of FIG. 3 . The respective long sides, ie the hy pothenus sides 22 , 23 , of the partial prism blocks 24 , 25 of the prism block 21 serve as deflection surfaces. These hypothenus sides 22 , 23 are highly reflective (HR, hatched in Fig. 6 represents Darge). At the points at which the laser diode radiation of the corresponding plane is radiated in a deflection-free manner, free spaces or recesses 26 are again left (shown without hatching), as shown in FIG. 6. Each unit is made up of three laser diode arrays 39.1 , 39.2 and 39.3 , each of which is oriented in one of three successive levels (xz level). In the first level, for example starting with the laser diode array 39.2 in Fig. 5 un th left, there is a free space 26 so that the radiation through this free space 26 is directed directly into the main emission direction 13 . In the next level, to which the laser diode array 39.1 is assigned at the upper edge of the partial prism block 25 , also leads through a free space 26 , then meets the mirrored hypothenus side 22 of the partial prism block 24 and is incident there, at an angle of 45 °, deflected in the main emission direction 13 . The laser diode array 39.3 , which can be seen in FIG. 5 on the right-hand side of the arrangement, is located in the subsequent level, the radiation of which then falls on the mirrored surface or hypothenus side 23 of the partial prism block 25 , from there onto the hypothenus side 22 of the lower one Part prism block 24 is deflected, where it is in turn deflected in the main emission direction 13 . The order of the levels is repeated in accordance with the above-described order of the unit with respect to the individual levels, which follow up or down in the y direction.
Accordingly, the heat sink 10 or the laser diode arrays 39.1 , 39.2 and 39.3 mounted thereon can be stacked and thus dimensioned as was explained in the context of the first embodiment with reference to FIG. 1.
Through the arrangements described above, the distance between the laser diodes, denoted in Fig. 1 with h DL and thus the height of the heat sinks can be chosen larger than in a linear stack arrangement in which the individual laser diode arrays 9 are all in a constant orientation with respect to the xz plane are arranged. This enables the use of heat sinks with better mechanical and cooling properties as well as easier manufacture and assembly. In addition, the laser diode stack can be constructed with higher positioning accuracy of the laser diodes, in comparison to the linear stack arrangement. The prism and rectangular plates can be arranged very close to each other with a small distance a (see Fig. 1). This reduces the gaps in the beam distribution in an imaging plane, where the radiation 4 , viewed in the direction of the main radiation direction 13 , are brought together. The permissible tolerances for the dimensions of the imaging optics decrease because their distance from one another in a laser diode stack increases by a factor of 3, corresponding to the proportion of the levels of a unit.
The output beam of the overall arrangement shows through the special beam addition, in addition to the higher radiation power, also a higher symmetry compared to the highly asymmetrical beam distribution of the individual laser di ode or in comparison to the beam distribution of linear stack arrangements. This is advantageous for applications that have a largely symmetrical geometry exhibit. Examples are the use of laser diode radiation for the optical pump Pen of solid-state lasers, in particular the longitudinal pumping along the La axis and for applications in material processing. The adaptation the beam distribution enables a higher one, for example in optical pumps Efficiency of laser beam generation or in material processing a high efficiency of the laser power used.
The higher beam symmetry is also advantageous for further beam shaping then by simpler rotationally symmetrical elements (for example standard lenses) can be done. In the case of the linear stacking arrangement are rotations symmetrical elements larger element diameters (e.g. lens diameter knife) required, which lead to larger aberrations and higher costs cause.
