Fig. 1 zeigt ein erfindungsgemäßes Leuchtelement, das aus mehreren Schichten flexibler, biegsamer Materia lien aufgebaut ist. Das Leuchtelement besitzt als Lichtquelle matrixartig angeordnete Leuchtdioden (LED) 3, die auf einer Leiterplatte 11 befestigt sind. Die Leiterplatte 11 mit den Leuchtdioden 3 ist von einer flexiblen Schicht 2 bedeckt, die im Bereich der Leuchtdioden 3 konkave Aushöhlungen besitzt, so daß die Schicht 2 im Bereich jeder Leuchtdiode 3 eine plan-konkave Linse bildet. Diese Linse ist in Ab strahlungsrichtung der Leuchtdioden mit einer kratz festen Vergütungsschicht 1 versehen.
