Die Erfindung bezieht sich auf photochromatische Verbindungen und insbesondere auf photochromatische Verbindungen,
die für den wiederholten Wechsel von FarbbildUES oder Farblöschung
durch Einwirkung von Licht geeignet ist. Die Photochromie ist eine Erscheinung, die seit einigen

Jahren das Interesse auf sich zog. Die Photochromie ist eine derartige reversible ErsdBinung, bei welcher eine bestimmte
Verbindung bei Bestrahlung mit ultraviolette Strahlen enthaltendem Licht, beispielsweise Sonnenlicht oder Licht einer
Quecksilberlampe, rasch die Farbe ändert und zu der anfänglichen

Farbe zurückkehrt, wenn die Bestrahlung abgebrochen oder die Verbindung in einen dunklen Raum gebracht wird. Eine
Verbindung mit einem derartigen Verhalten wird als "photogbromatische" Verbindung bezeichnet. Es wurden verschiedene
Arfeen von Verbindungen synthetisiert, wobei jedoch keine gemeinsame Beziehung hinsichtlich ihrer Strukturen gefunden
wurde. Vor allem wurden !,^,jS-Trimethylindollnobenzospiropyranderivate
der allgemeinen Struktur

mit größtem Interesse beobachtet, worin R^ und
verschiedene Substituenten darstellen. Die photochromatische Verbindung (I) ändert sich im allgemeinen rasch von farblos
in blau bei Befetrahlung mit Sonnenlicht oder ultravioletten Strahlen in einem nicht polaren Lösungsmittel,
beispielsweise Benzol oder Toluol, und kehrt wiedejjln den
anfänglichen farblosen Zustand zurück, wenn sie im Dunkeln afer unter Bestrahlung mit sichtbaren Strahlen stehengelassen
wird. Jedoch sind diese Verbindungen gewöhnlich rot bis rotviolett, wenn^ie in polaren Lösungsmitteln, z.B.
Äthylalkohol, Methylalkohol, Aceton, Acetonitril und Dimethylformamid, gelöst sind, wobei deren photochromatisches

Verhalten nicht mehr bemerkbar ist, wenn auf die Lösungen ultraviolette Strahlen gestrahlt werden.
Aufgabe der Erfindung ist die Schaffung von neuen photochromatischen Verbindungen. Ferner bezweckt die Erfindung
die Schaffung von photochromatischen Massen, die die neuartigenphotochromatischen Verbindungen enthalten.
Es wurden Untersuchungen hinsichtlich der Überwindung und Beseitigung dieser Abhängigkeit des photochromatischen
VeiiEltens von Lösungsmitteln ausgeführt, die zu der vorliegenden Erfindung führten.
Gemäß der Erfindung werden neue photochromatische Verbindungen der allgemeinen Formel
geschaffen, worin R ein Wasserstoffatom, ein Halogenatom, eine Cyanogruppe, eine Nitrogruppe, ein Alkoxygruppe mit
1 bis 8 Kohlenstoffatomen, eine Alkylgruppeinit 1 bis 8
Kohlenstoffatomen oder eine Äkoxycarbonylgruppe mit 1 bis Kohlenstoffatomen darstellt.
Das allgemeine Syntheseverfahren für die Herstellung der Verbindung gemäß der Erfindung ist wie folgt.

Eine Mischung von 5-R-l,3,3-trimethyl-2-methylenindolin
und c-Nitroso-ß-naphthol in äquimolefaularen Mengen wird
in Äthylalkohol unter Einblasen von Stickstoffgas am
%ckfluß gehalten und nach der Umsetzung wird die Mischung zur Abscheidung von braunen Kristallen gekühlt. Bei Umfcristallisation
der sich ergebenden Kristalle aus Äthylalkohol nach Filtration wird die vorstehend angegebene
Verbindung in einer Menge von 10 bis ^O % erhalten. Die so
erhaltene Verbindung wird für die Erzielung einer Farblosigkeit bei Raumtemperatur in Lösungsmitteln gelöst, z.B.
in Benzol, Toluol, Schwefelkohlenstoff, Chloroform, Äthylacetat, Methyläthylketon, Aceton, Äthylalkohol,
Methylalkohol, Acetonitril, Tetrahydrofuran, Dioxpn, ^ethylcellosalve, Morpholih, Äthylenglykol, Dimethylformamid
und Dimethylsulfoxyd , wobei unter · Bestrahlung mit ultravioletten Strahlen eine Parbbildung in blau erfolgt.
Die Dichte der Farbbildung wird höher, wenpfdie Bestrahlung mit ultravioletten Strahlen unter Kühlung
mit Eis ausgeführt wird.
Die Verbindung gemäß der Erfindung wird in Lösungen unter. Erzielung einer Farblosigkeit oder Transparenz
gelöst, z.B. Polyvinylacetat-Acetonlösung, Nitrocellulose-Acetonitrillösung,
Polyvinylchlorid-Methyläthylketonlösung, Polymethylmethacrylat-Acetonlösung, Celluloseacetat-Dimethyl-

Die Zusammensetzung oder Masse gemäß der Erfindung ist dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß sie im allgemeinen unabhängig
von den Arten von dem verwendeten Lösungsmittel und Harz farblos ist, jedoch augenblickiüch eine Farbbildung
in blau durch Bestrahlung mit ultravioletten Strahlen eingeht und in den farblosen Zustand in 10 oder
bei Enfernung der ultravioletten Strahlen
mehr Sekunden/zurückkehrt, wobei eine derartige Farbänderung
wiederholt werden kann.
Die Spektrumsänderung der vorstehend beschriebenen
Verbindung aufgrund der Bestrahlung mit ultravioletten Strahlen in eher Lösung ist in der Zeichnung dargestellt.
Die Messung des Spektrums im sichtbaren Bereich wird vor der Bestrahlung mit ultravioletten Strahlen (1), nach
Bestrahlung während 4 Sekunden (2) und nach Bestrahlung während 8 Sekunden (3) anhand der Verbindung, bei welcher
der Rest R in der vorstehend angegebenen allgemeinen Formel Wasserstoff ist, in einer Benzollösung (vgl. Fig. 1) und
in einer Äthanollösung (vgl. Fig. 2) ausgeführt. Als Lichtquelle wird eine Quecksilberlampe (Toshiba SHL-100)
verwendet.

Die Erfindung wird nachstehend anhand von Beispielen näher erläutert.
Beispiel 1
6i9 δ 1,3,3-Trimethyl-2-methylenindolin und 6,9 g
a-Metroso-ß-naphthol wurden in 1oo ml Äthyl-alkohl gelöst
und 2 Stunden unter Einblasen von Stickstoffgas unter
Rückfluß gehalten. Nach der Umsetzung wurde der überschüssige Äthylalkohol auf etwa 1/4 abdestilliert und die
Reaktionsmischung wurde dann bei Raumtemperatur stehengelassen, und dadurch ein rohes Kastallprodukt von 1,3,3-T±imethylspiro-/~indolino-2,3'-naphtho-(2,1-b)(1,4)-oxazin7
abzuscheiden. Die rohen Kristalle wurden durch Umkristallisation aus 4*m Äthylalkohol gereinigt, wobei
1,9 g gelbe Kristalle mit einem Schmelzpunkt von 117 bis 119°C erhalten wurde.

Lösungen des so erhaltenen Materials in Toluol, Schwefelkohlenstoff, Chl-oroform, Äthylacetat, Methyläthyl-keton,
Aceton, Äthylalkohol, Methylalkohol, Acetonitril, Tetrahydrofuran, Dioxan, Methylcellosolve, Morpholin,
Äthylenglykol, Dimethylformamid und Dimethylsulfoxyd waren unter gwwöhnlichen Bedingungen farblos

Lösungen des Materials in Polyvinylacetat-Aceton, Nitrocellulose-Acetonitril, Polyvinylchlorid-Methyläthylketon,
Polymethylmethacrylat-Aceton, Celluloseacetatdimethylformamid,
Celluloseacetat-Dimethylformamid, PoIy-Inylpyrrolidon-Acetonitril,
Polystyrol-Benzol, Äthylcellulose-Methylenchlorid
od.dgl. wurden ä.s Überzug auf einen Träger aus Barytpapier, Cellulosetriacetat oder
Polyäthylenfeerephthalat aufgebracht und getrocknet, wobei die dabei erhaltenen Materialien unter Bestrahlung mit
ultravioletten Strahlen blau waren und rasch zu dem anfänglichen farblosen Zustand bei Entfernung der ultravioletten
Streuen zurückkehrten.
2,9 g von 1 ,^^^-Tetramethyl^-methylenindolin und
2,8 g von a-Nitroso-ß-naphthol wurden in 6o ml Äthylalkohol
gelöst und unter Einblasen von Stickstoffgas während 2 Stunden unter Rückfluß gehalten. Nach Abdestillieren
des Überschüssen Äthylalkohols wurde die Reaktionsmischung gekühlt, um die rohen Kristalle von
1,3,3,5-Tetramethylspiro-/""indolino-2,3 '-naphtho-

(2,1-b-)(1,4)-oxazin7 abzuscheiden. Bei Reinigung der
rohen Kristalle durch Umkristallisation aus Äthylalkohol
wurden 1,2 g hellgelber Kristalle mit einem Schmelzpunkt bei 152 bis 154-0C erhalten.

Die Eigenschaften der Verbindung waren denjenigen der Verbindung von Beispiel 1 gleich.
3,3 g 5-Methoxy-1,3,3-trimethyl-2-methylenindolin und 2,8 g a-Nitroso-ß-naphthol wurden in 6o ml Äthylalkohol
unter Einblasen von Stickstoffgas während 2 Stunden unter Rückfluß gehalten. Nach dfer Umsetzung wurde der überschüssige
Äthylalkohol abdestilliert und die Reaktionsmischung wurde gekühlt, wobei rohe Kristalle von 5-Methoxy-1,3,3-trimethylspiro/~indolino-2,3'-naphtho-(2,1-b)(i,4)-■oxazin/
erhalten wurden. Bei Umkristallisation der rohen
Kristalle aus Äthylalkohol nach Filtration wurden o,9 g hellbrauner Kristalle mit einem Schmelzpunkt von 13o bis
132°C erhalten.

Die Eigenschaften der erhaltenen Verbindung waren derjenigen der Verbindung von Beispiel ähnlich..
2,1 g 5-Chiar-1,3,3-trimethyl~2-methylenindolin und
1,8 g α-Nitroso-ß-naphthol wurden in 3o ml Äthylalkohol
während 2 Stunden in ähnlicher Weise unter Rücfcfluß gehalten.
Nach Abdestillation des überschüssigen Äthylalkohols auf 1/4·
wurde die Heaktionsmischung gekühlt, wobei 2,8 g roher Kristalle von 5-Chlor-1,3,3-trimethylspiro ^indolino-2,3'-naphtho-(2,1-b)(1,4-)-oxazin7
erhalten wurden. Bei Umkristallisationcfer rohen Kristalle, aus Äthylalkohol
wurden 1,9 g von hellen gelblich weißen Kristallen mit einem Schmelapunkt von 174· bis 177°C erhalten.
Elementaranalyse: 0 H N berechnet, % 72,83 5,24 7,72
gefunden,^ 72,51 5,38 7,18
Die Eigenschaften der sich ergebenen Verbindung waren die gleichen wie diejenigen der in Beispiel 1
erhaltenen Verbindung.

Alkoxycarbonylgruppe mit 1 bis 8 Kohlenstoffatomen be-

dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß sie Benzol, Toluol, Schwefelkohlenstoff,
Chloroform, Äthylacetat, Methylethylketon, Aceton, Äthylalkohol, Acetonitril, Tetrahydrofuran, Dioxan,
Methyläther von Äthylenglykol, Dimethylformamid oder Dimethylsulfoxyd als Lösungsmittel enthält.
