Method for the time-limited labeling of items of laundry in
Laundries The invention relates to a method for temporary identification
of laundry items in laundries using an invisible under normal light,
visible metal oxide fluorescent material only when exposed to ultraviolet light
with a colorless binder or carrier that attaches the metal oxide phosphor to the
Keeps items to be washed deposited during the washing process.
It is already known that the laundry items delivered to laundries
to mark with the help of an ink that can only be seen under UV light. These well-known
However, markings have the disadvantage that they cannot be erased; the accumulation
Such markings on the individual items of laundry delay sorting
and can lead to mix-ups.
It is also known to not have visible markings with a permanent one
Make laundry ink, but with a color that is faded by UV rays
leaves. These marks are printed on the items to be washed and after
the washing, etc. and sorting removed again before delivery to the customer. This
The marking process has the disadvantage that the fading of the markings is time consuming
and under certain circumstances allows colored items of laundry to "shoot". Furthermore, there is
after deleting the markings there is no longer any possibility of identification, so that
a piece of laundry that may have been mixed up during sorting does not give the owner
can be fed.
Die Erfindung schafft hier Abhilfe. The invention provides a remedy here.
The inventive method is characterized in that the
on the delivered items of laundry, the old ones already present by means of the metal oxide fluorescent material
applied mark initially with a weak, volatile, organic
Acid extinguished and then the laundry items by means of the metal oxide phosphor
marked again for the following washing process.
A zinc oxide or zinc oxide-magnesium oxide phosphor is preferred
used, and to erase the markings is particularly suitable for ants and

Apply steam to the markings.
It is essential that the fluorescent marking is easily distinguishable
is independent of the color of the textile material or the presence of optical
Bleach. Furthermore, the marking must fluoresce with sufficient brightness,
so that it is easy to find, even under strong daylight or artificial light
Lighting. The marking liquid must also be used regardless of the type of fiber
adhere well to the fabric and withstand the strong attacks of the washing process
to which the property is to be subjected.
The carrier medium for the phosphor is preferably a colorless one
Vinyl or methacrylate resin that reacts with one or more volatile solvents
is mixed to create a liquid of the desired consistency. Appropriately
a dispersant for the pigment is added to this mixture in order to achieve a complete
Ensure dispersion of the pigment in the liquid.

The following examples are intended to illustrate the composition of marking fluids which can be used in the method of the invention. composition

As already mentioned, the fluorescence of such mixtures can be abolished and thus the markings formed by them can be erased by applying a dilute solution of a volatile, non-aggressive acid to them, e.g. B. formic or acetic acid. The marking can be erased by simply painting or wiping the marking with the cold acid in a concentration of 10 to 20%. The treated area can then by applying a volatile base - e.g. B. ammonia -neutralized and then dried in order to bring the garment to the initial state for a new marking more quickly. If there is sufficient time between the erasing and re-marking processes, the acid will volatilize from the textile material so that neutralization of the acid is not necessary. The removal of the acid from the garment can be accelerated by the application of heat so that it is almost instantaneous. Thus, after the treatment with cold acid, the area containing the marking can be touched with a hot steam iron, which instantly reacts the acid with the metal oxide and extinguishes its fluorescence. At the same time, the acid is volatilized and removed from the garment. A preferred method of erasing the marking consists in flowing the acid into a jet of steam and directing the acidified steam onto the part of the item of laundry which contains the marking. Said marking fluids fluoresce under ultraviolet light with a bright yellow color so that they are clearly visible above the bluish white fluorescence which results from the use of optical bleaching agents. The mark fluoresces with sufficient brightness that it can be easily read even when there is strong natural light. The use of a metal oxide phosphor creates a sharp contrast between the marker and the fabric, regardless of the color of the latter. Furthermore, the resin-containing carrier of the marking liquid allows the marking to adhere satisfactorily even to types of tissue which contain synthetic fibers either alone or together with natural fibers.
