Das Unkenntlichmachen von Gesichtsbereichen in fotografischen Aufnahmen erfolgt zumeist aus Datenschutzgründen und ist deswegen meist zwingend erforderlich. Zumeist wird mit verschiedensten Prozesstechniken versucht, prägnante Merkmale des Gesichtes (z. B. Augen, Nase und Mund), zu erkennen. Derartige Verfahren sind in der Fachwelt auch unter dem Synonym „Face recognition” bekannt. Diese Verfahren sind für fotografische Aufnahmen, wie sie typischerweise für den Verkehrsüberwachungsbereich eingesetzt werden, nicht anwendbar, da aufgrund des fehlenden Kontrastes in der Aufnahme und der fehlenden Auflösungsgenauigkeit diese prägnanten Merkmale nicht hervorstechen.The blurring of facial areas in photographic images is mostly for privacy reasons and is therefore usually mandatory. Mit dieser Messmethode wird die Durchschnittsgeschwindigkeit eines Fahrzeuges zwischen zwei Punkten gemessen und mit einer erlaubten Grenzgeschwindigkeit verglichen. Diese Durchschnittsgeschwindigkeit ist aus dem bekannten Abstand zwischen den beiden Messpunkten und der für die Durchfahrt benötigten Zeit ableitbar. Bei der ermittelten Geschwindigkeit handelt es sich somit nicht um die maximal erreichte Geschwindigkeit in dem Abschnitt zwischen den beiden Messpunkten, sondern die durchschnittliche Geschwindigkeit der Durchfahrt. Die ermittelte Geschwindigkeit wird inklusive dem Fahrzeugkennzeichen und optional dem Gesichtsbereich des Fahrers an eine Behörde weitergeleitet. In manchen Ländern ist es aufgrund des Datenschutzes verboten, Bilder des Gesichtsbereiches weiterzuverwenden.
