Description

探测气密封包装中泄漏的仪器和方法
技术领域
本发明涉及分析气密封包装内的氧浓度和探测气密封包装中泄漏的仪表和技术。
背景技术
易于腐烂的产品,诸如加工食品、坚果和切片的水果和蔬菜,经常放置在灌注惰性气体诸如氮气或氩气的气密封包装中,以实现包装内的氧浓度小于3%,由此延长产品的保存寿命。这样的包装通常称为调控气氛包装(CAP)或改变气氛包装(MAP)。
包装内的气体的灌注不足和/或包装中的泄漏会大大地减少预计的保存寿命,导致不希望的腐烂。因此,CAP/MAP的适当的质量控制工作典型地至少涉及包装的定期试验,以确定气密封包装内的氧成分和包装存在的任何泄漏。

发明内容
本发明的第一方面是探测气密封包装中泄漏的仪器。该仪器包括(a)具有空腔的针,(b)质量流量传感器,和(c)真空泵。质量流量传感器与由针限定的空腔密封流体连通。真空泵与由针限定的空腔及质量流量传感器相流体连通以从气密封包装抽空气体以及使质量流量传感器能够感测来自被抽空的包装的任何连续质量流。
本发明的第二方面是用于分析气密封包装内的气体的氧浓度以及探测气密封包装中的泄漏的仪器。该仪器包括(a)具有空腔的针,(b)氧气传感器,(c)质量流量传感器和(d)真空泵。该氧气传感器和该质量流量传感器与由针限定的空腔相密封流体连通。真空泵与由针限定的空腔以及与氧气传感器和质量流量传感器相流体连通,以便(A)将气体样品通过针的空腔从气密封包装内泵出,与氧气传感器可操作地接触,从而能够感测样品的氧浓度,(B)抽出气密封包装中的气体成分,以及(C)使质量流量传感器能够感测来自被抽空的包装的任何连续的质量流。

本发明的第四方面是分析气密封包装内的气体的氧浓度和探测气密封包装中的泄漏的方法。该方法涉及(a)选择气密封包装,(b)用具有空腔的空心针刺穿气密封包装,(c)通过针的空腔泵送气密封包装内的气体的样品,并使之与氧气传感器可操作地接触从而感测样品中的氧浓度,(d)通过针的空腔从气密封包装内抽出气体成分,以在气密封包装内形成真空,和(e)测量来自被抽空的气密封包装的质量流量。感测来自被抽空的气密封包装的大于阈值的质量流量,指示气密封包装中有泄漏。

仪器10能够有效地用于各种各样的气密封包装100,所述包装从刚性包装诸如聚氯乙烯管,半柔性包装诸如涂蜡的纸盒和薄壁聚乙烯瓶,到柔性包装诸如由聚对苯二甲酸乙二醇酯(即MYLAR)或聚乙烯膜制造的袋子。
参照图1,第一个方面的仪器10包括针20、压力传感器30、氧气传感器40、选择阀50、真空泵60、质量流量传感器70和用于密封地相互连接仪器10的各个构件的适当的管道80a、80b和80c以下集体标记为管道80。
如图2所示,针20构造并设置成带有空腔29和有效地用于刺穿包装100的侧壁(未编号)的锐利尖角的远端21。隔膜200优选地粘结到包装100的侧壁—特别是当包装100是高度柔性的时—在用针20刺穿包装100之前,以维持针20周围的气密封。
参照图1,真空泵60通过管道80密封地连接到针20的空腔29。一旦针20已经插穿包装100,使真空泵60运行通过针20的空腔29从包装100中抽出包装100中的气体成分102的样品并与氧气传感器40可操作地接触。
基本上任何类型的真空泵60适合用于仪器10,而选择主要地取决于电源的选择(即电池或电力线)、所希望的可携带程度(即手提式或台面式)和预计的用途(即大容量或小容量包装的试验)。对于大多数应用,具有约250~1000cm3/min的最大气体体积流量和能够抽取最大约1-15lb/in2,优选为4-8lb/in2的真空度的真空泵,使用标准消费电池(例如,AAA、AA、A、C、D或9V电池)将是足够的。
氧气传感器40可以从一些容易得到的多种多样的氧气传感器来源中选择任何一种,这些来源诸如由明尼苏达州的明尼阿波利斯市的MOCON公司供货的PAC CHECK系列的顶部空间氧气分析仪。氧气传感器40优选地定位在真空泵60的上游,以避免从包装100抽取的用于分析的气体样品的潜在污染。

实用阈值的选择取决于若干因素,这些因素包括由真空泵60抽取的真空程度、制造包装100所用的材料等。一般地,当真空泵60抽取的真空度在约4-8lb/in2之间时约0.1cm3/min的阈值可以有效地用作所述阈值。
仪器10中使用的合适的气体质量流量传感器70可从一些来源得到,这些来源包括马萨诸塞州的Wilmington市的MKS仪器公司。
在针20和真空泵60之间,优选地在针20和氧气传感器40之间使用压力传感器30,在真空泵60运行的同时用于测量和报告包装100内的压力。
压力传感器30、氧气传感器40、选择阀50、真空泵60和质量流量传感器70优选地通过微控制器或处理器(未示出)可操作地相互连接,微控制器或处理器用于控制各个构件的运行以及接收与处理由各个传感器所产生的数据信号。这些构件连同有关的管道80和电源(未示出)优选地安装在一个单独的外壳(未示出)内,该外壳安装有(i)入口(未示出),该入口被构造和布置成连接到一段管道80a以使针20与安装在外壳内的构件相流体连通,和(ii)用于和使用者通讯的用户输入装置(未示出)和可视的显示屏(未示出)。
仪器10可以构造为便携式或台面式单元。
使用
选择具有固体成分101和气体成分102的包装100的单元用于分析。隔膜200选择地粘接到包装100的外表面(未编号)。隔膜200和包装100由针20的远端21穿过足够的距离,以使空腔29与包装100中的内容物相流体连通。针20然后留在插入位置供进行剩余程序。剩余程序可以手动或自动实现。下面公开的内容将基于仪器10的自动运行来给出。
用户通过压下启动按钮(未示出)开始分析。阀门50被驱动以使针20与真空泵60相流体连通并关闭排气道90。然后启动真空泵60以通过管段80a从包装100中将气体成分102的样品抽入氧气传感器40。典型地,约2-5ml的样品就足够了。然后,停运真空泵60,驱动阀门50以打开排气道90并使氧气传感器40内的气体样品的压力正常化。一旦气体样品的压力正常化,驱动阀门50以关闭排气道90,触发氧气传感器40以感测、记录和报告从包装100中抽出的气体样品中的氧浓度。
在完成由氧气传感器40进行的分析之后,氧气传感器40不再工作,启动真空泵60以从包装100中抽出气体成分102并抽真空。触发质量流量传感器70,在从包装100抽出气体成分102之后感测通过管道80的质量流量。感测出的质量流量可以简单地记录和报告,但是优选地首先与阈值相比较。当稳定状态的真空下的质量流量小于阈值时,感测的质量流量与“没有探测到泄漏”的指示一起被记录和报告,或当稳定状态的真空下的质量流量大于或等于阈值时,感测的质量流量与“探测到泄漏”的指示一起被记录和报告。然后,使真空泵60和质量流量传感器70不工作。

Claims (4)

1.一种探测气密封包装中泄漏的仪器,包括:
(a)针,它具有空腔;
(b)质量流量传感器,它与由针限定的空腔密封流体连通;和
(c)真空泵,它与由针限定的空腔流体连通以从气密封包装中抽空气体,以及与质量流量传感器流体连通以引导来自被抽空的气密封包装的质量流与质量流量传感器可操作地接触,从而能够感测来自被抽空的气密封包装的任何连续质量流。
2.一种探测气密封包装中泄漏的仪器包括:
(a)针,它具有空腔;
(b)氧气传感器,它与由针限定的空腔以密封流体连通;
(c)质量流量传感器,它与由针限定的空腔密封流体连通;
(d)真空泵,所述真空泵(i)与由针限定的空腔流体连通以便(A)将气体样品通过针的空腔从气密封包装内泵出,使气体样品与氧气传感器可操作地接触,从而能够感测气体样品的氧浓度,和以便(B)抽出气密封包装的气体成分,以及所述真空泵(ii)与质量流量传感器流体连通,以便引导来自被抽空的气密封包装的质量流与质量流量传感器可操作地接触,从而能够感测来自被抽空的气密封包装的任何连续质量流。
3.一种探测气密封包装中泄漏的方法,包括下列步骤:
(a)选择气密封包装;
(b)用具有空腔的空心针刺穿气密封包装;
(c)通过空心针的空腔从气密封包装内抽出任何气体成分,以在气密封包装内形成真空;和
(d)测量来自被抽空的气密封包装内的质量流量,因此,来自被抽空的气密封包装的大于阈值的质量流量指示气密封包装中有泄漏。
4.一种探测气密封包装中泄漏的方法,包括下列步骤:
(a)选择气密封包装;
(b)用具有空腔的空心针刺穿气密封包装;
(c)通过空心针的空腔泵送气密封包装内的气体样品并使之与氧气传感器可操作地接触从而感测气体样品中的氧浓度;
(d)通过空心针的空腔从气密封包装内抽出气体成分,以在气密封包装内形成真空;和
(e)测量来自被抽空的气密封包装的质量流量,因此,来自被抽空的气密封包装的大于阈值的质量流量指示气密封包装中有泄漏。
