无线家庭联网

根据本发明,代替专用布线调制解调器,利用布线耦合并传送通过现有无线组件(广泛用于无线传输)传导的标准无线基带信号。同样,网络(诸如局域网)能够在布线上以总线拓扑、点对点或任何其他任意的网络拓扑进行配置。本发明基于WLAN单元设计,包括有线数据端口和无线端口(例如天线)并且能够使得数据单元连接有线数据端口(专有或标准)来与其他数据单元实现无线通信。

具体实施方式
根据本发明网络的原理和操作可以参考附图和相关描述理解,其中在不同附图中出现的相似组件通过相同的附图标记表示。附图和描述仅仅是概念性的。在实际的实践中,单个组件能够实现一种或更多的功能;替换地,每个功能能够通过多个组件和电路实现。在附图和描述中,相同的附图标记表示对于不同实施例或配置来说共用的那些组件。 
在图3中描述了根据本发明一个或更多实施例适于在电话布线上操作的基于无线的OFDM调制解调器30。OFDM调制解调器30主要基于如图1中WLAN单元10所示的设计和组件。与WLAN单元10相反,RF信号不耦合至天线22,而是连接上/下变换器31。变换器31将ISM频带基带信号位移到在室内/办公室或任何其他建筑物中的电话布线上可使用的频带。由于在北美有关辐射电磁发射的FCC规定,因此认为可使用的频带可扩展到 30MHz。所以,对于占据22MHz基带信号的频谱分配可以在8MHz和30MHz之间(中心在19MHz周围),如图4中成为图表40一部分的曲线43所示,该图表示例了沿频率轴44的各种功率电平分配。这种分配考虑到使用100KHz(或25KHz)到1.1MHz的ADSL信号42以及POTS信号曲线41。ADSL是非对称数字用户线的简称,它使用标准电话线在上行流和下行流中传送高速数据通信,使用电话线带宽不用于语音的一部分,从而允许同时进行语音和数据通信。

为了避免来自在相同电话对上传送的其他信号(POTS41和ADSL42)的干扰,在变换器31和电话布线连接器36之间连接高通滤波器(HPF)32。考虑到要耦合OFDM调制解调器30到电话对,电话布线连接器36通常是在北美使用的电话标准RJ-11插头。HPF32可以使用实现Butterworth滤波器方案的无源组件。在某些情况下,需要电话单元共享相同的电话布线连接器35。在这种情况下,将使用低通滤波器(LPF)34隔离POTS频带,允许电话机经由电话插口(例如,RJ-11插口)耦合至电话连接器35。任何常见的用于隔离POTS和ADSL信号的滤波器(又称微滤波器)都可以用作LPF34,包括分立的电容和电感。经由一组LPF和HPF单元连接调制解调器和电话这种配置在本领域中是已知的并且在HomePNA环境中也通常使用。

上述用于频移的上/下变换器31在本领域中是熟知的。这些变换器已知为使用混频和滤波技术,并且可以使用单或多级(超外差方案)以及直接变换(DC)体系结构。用于图3所示包括变换器单元31、RF滤波器21和TX/RX开关19功能的上/下变换器功能方块37的非限制性实例在图5示为方块50。这种方块50频移耦合至端口51的RF信号到端口68中的低频(IF)信号。在端口51中接收的RF信号通过基于混频器57a和带通滤波器(BPF)的58a下行信道向下位移并在端口68输出。类似地,在端口68中接收的IF信号通过包括混频器57a和BPF58a的上行信道位移至RF频带,并作为RF信号在端口51输出。RF端口51耦合至OFDM调制解调器30的HPF32以及IF端口68耦合至OFDM调制解调器30的RF-IF变换器16。

已经描述了变换器50具有专用上行和下行信道。但是,由于每次只使用一个信道而不能同时使用两个信道,还可以使用单个信道(混频器),在单信道中应用适当的切换机制。

OFDM调制解调器30本质上应用双频率变换:通过变换器16从IF到 RF并且通过变换器31回到低频。通过直接提取基带信号而不经过RF级可以消除这种冗余,如图6中示例的OFDM调制解调器功能方框图60所示,其中可以在本发明的一个或更多实施例中可以使用它。

为了使得计算机66a和66b能够连接外部网络(诸如因特网),通常应用连接外部网络(宽带或窄带)的设备,非限制性实例包括基于DOCSIS的电缆调制解调器、ADSL调制解调器、无线(诸如WiMax)和其他的调制解调器。这种设备应该连接任何OFDM调制解调器的‘数据’端口,从而允许共享到在整个建筑物中相连接的数据单元的外部连接。在一个实例中,使用ADSL调制解调器67。所示的ADSL调制解调器经由用于耦合至ADSL信号42(在图4中描述),并提供标准数据接口(例如,USB,10/100BaseT)的电缆74e连接电话插座63a。这种数据接口依次连接OFDM调制解调器30a‘数据’端口,从而允许计算机66a和66b经由所形成的网络共享ADSL连接。OFDM调制解调器30a同样经由电缆74a(和电缆74e一起)连接电话插座63a。

插座封装的调制解调器

而且,当技术和环境随着时间变化时,可能出现升级、修改或改变插座功能、特征和特性的需求。例如,可能需要升级数据接口以与新标准互连。在另一个实例中,可能需要升级电路以支持更高带宽。类似地,可能需要引入或升级管理和服务质量(QoS)功能。在再一个实例中,可能需要添加附加的功能和接口。使用完整独立的插座作为现有插座的替换还引入了上述不利之处。 
一种添加功能给现有插座的方法是使用插入模块。在Smart等人题为‘High data-rate powerline network system and method’的美国专利申请2002/0039388,Walbeck等人题为‘Modular power line network adaptor’美国专利申请2002/0060617以及Schaeffer,JR等人题为‘Powerline bridge apparatus’的美国专利申请2003/0062990中描述了用于电源线通信使用的这种插入模块。使用HomePlugTM技术的这种模块可从多个来源获得诸如作为Asoka USA Corporation of San Carlos,California,USA的PlugLinkTM产品的一部分。但是,这些插入模块仅仅已知为关于电源插座,对于电话或CATV插座不可用。 
根据本发明一个或更多实施例的插入模块在图9中示为模块90。模块90基于上述的插座80。但是,与插座对比,模块90具有插入电话插座91的RJ-11插口93的RJ-11插头,后者因此不需要替换或修改。为了允许机械保证这种连接,模块90包括两个滑动侧94a和94b,它们分别闭锁和按压在插座91表面92a和92b。通过这种方式,模块90可电连接布线并机械附加到插座91,而不需要任何专业技术或工具。通过电话连接器35a和35b完全地保留了POTS服务。 
无线端口 
上述的OFDM调制解调器30和60提供两个有线端口,即数据单元端口33和电话布线端口36,其功能是在这些端口之间变换信号。添加无线端口将使OFDM调制解调器也能够在非有线媒介上与数据单元联网。

所示的三端口调制解调器100通过共享设备101共享三个RF信号。在本发明的一个或更多实施例中,在基带(或IF)频谱中执行共享功能。图10a中示出了这种调制解调器105。类似于调制解调器100,支持三个端口,其中两个有线端口和一个无线端口。但是,与调制解调器100相反,共享设备106共享三个基带信号:天线22经由RF-IF变换器16耦合的信号、经由接口76的电话布线信号和经由基带处理器18的数据单元相关信号。这种配置的一个优点是使用单个上/下变换器16,而不是调制解调器100配置中使用的两个变换器(16和31)。

在某些情况下,可能只需要使用无线端口,因此可以消除受限制的数据单元连接。根据本发明的一个或更多实施例,在图13中示出了仅支持无线端口的无线适配器130。在图10中对调制解调器100描述的数据单元端口33相关功能(诸如基带处理器18、MAC层处理器13和PHY12)被省略。接收通道包括天线22、RF滤波器21和TX/RX开关19。然后通过上/下变换器31向下频移接收的RF信号,并经由连接器36和HPF32馈送给电话布线。类似地,接收并上变换电话布线传送的任何OFDM信号到RF,然后馈给天线22。电话机可以经由连接器35和LPF34连接电话布线。

在根据本发明的一个或更多实施例中,使用其他现用布线(不局限于面向电话的布线)传送服务信号。例如,根据本发明的一个或更多实施例可以使用电源线传送AC电信号和OFDM信号。在这种情况下,HPF32应该替换为HPF过滤传送AC信号的低频带(即,在北美是60Hz和在欧洲是50Hz)和相关噪声。类似地,在还需要调制解调器以提供AC电连接的情况下,电话连接器35应该替换为适于连接供电设备的二或三管脚电源插口,面向电话的LPF34应该替换为通过50/60Hz AC信号的LPF。进一步,类似于有关在电话插座和电话插座搭锁模块内容纳调制解调器的上述讨论。电源线OFDM调制解调器可以同样利用受保证的修改分别封装在AC电插座和搭锁模块内。 
在根据本发明的一个或更多实施例中,在CATV电缆上传送OFDM基带信号,传送CATV服务信号。在一个或更多实施例中,可以在不用于传送CATV信号的频带(例如,在部分实现中在750MHz上)上应用基带信号。通常传送CATV模拟视频信道,每个信道占用6MHz宽的频带。在这种情况下,分配四个相邻信道将产生总带宽6*4=24MHz,它可包含22MHz宽 OFDM基带信号。在这种情况下,使用的上/下变换器31应该例如通过调谐本地振荡器54频率到所需的值,位移该频带到分配的带宽。类似地,HPF32应该替换为通过分配24MHz的BPF,以及LPF34应该替换为阻止OFDM信号并通过CATV信道的BSP(阻带滤波器),以经由替换电话连接器35的RF连接器(BNC或F类型)耦合。

供电 
在根据本发明的绝大多数实施例中,OFDM调制解调器(或无线适配器)包括有源组件(诸如上/下变换器31),并因此需要对其供电。在下文中描述的三个非限制性供电方案包括本地馈电、基于布线以及经由接口模块供电。供电方案应用于单独封装的、容纳在插座内、封装在搭锁插座模块内或作为数据单元一部分的调制解调器/适配器。 
本地馈电 
在这种实现中,所述模块连接给其有源组件馈电的外部电源。常见小型 AC/DC转换器可以经由专用电源连接连接调制解调器/适配器。 
在调制解调器/适配器中可以使用电源适配器来适配外部电源以满足内部需要。这种适配器可以包括电压转换(诸如DC到DC转换器)以便适配所需的特定电压,保护电路(诸如熔丝或限流)、调节和噪声过滤,以及本领域已知的其他功能。 
基于布线供电 
在根据本发明的一个或更多实施例中,所述OFDM调制解调器(或无线适配器)通过在模块连接的布线上传送的电力供电。这种电可以在分离的导体上传送。在这种情况下,可以使用相同的布线连接器(诸如36或151)连接使用分离插脚的电力传送导体。替换地,可以使用其他电源专用连接器。 
在一个或更多优选实施例中,在传送数据网络信号和/或基本服务信号的布线上同时传送电力。这种机构的实现不重要的,其中基本服务是AC电。在这种情况下,从通常经由AC/DC转换器和LPF滤波器传送的AC电信号提取电力。 
类似地,已知为Power over Ethernet(PoE)(又名Power over LAN)并根据IEEE802.3af标准化的近来技术在授予Lehr等人题为‘Structure CablingSystem’的美国专利6473609中也进行了说明,该专利描述了一种使用仿真机制在LAN布线上传送电力方法。上述技术以及其他技术可以用于提供电力给上述任何调制解调器/适配器,其中适当的电缆(诸如CAT.5)用作有线媒介。作为一个非限制性实例,在对于电力信号使用不同频谱的情况下,应该使用滤波器。在仿真类型馈电的情况下,如本领域中已知的需要两个变压器。 
近来开发的技术允许在同一布线基础设施上同时传送电力和基本服务(和数据)。Rabenko等人题为‘System and method for providing power over ahome phone line network’的美国专利公布20020003873教导了通过使用未被其他信号使用的一部分频谱,在传送电话和数据的电话布线上传送AC电。 这种技术可以用于给根据本发明的调制解调器或适配器供电。作为一个非限制性实例,使用50KHz正弦波电信号的AC电可被使用。如图表40所示,40KHz信号处于未分配的频带中,所以可以用于利用最小干扰或没有干扰地给在相同电话布线对上传送的其他信号进行供电分布。 
在绝大多数现有技术系统中包括在非电力专用布线(例如电源线)上传送电力,能够传送的电量由于安全规定和极限、保证与在相同电线上传送的其他信号的最小干扰,或由于电线上的功率耗散等原因而受到限制。例如,由于安全限制在电话线上传送的电力不可以超出60VDC,以及在同轴布线(例如,CATV)上传送的电力可能恶化其信号传输特征。 
通常无线系统,以及特别是WLAN系统与移动和手持设备诸如PDA(个人数字助理)、蜂窝电话、遥控器和膝上型计算机相关。由于是电池供电,因此无线组件的功耗成为关键。因此,分配大量资源以使无线组件消耗非常低的功率,以及认为任何无线组件的功耗是其主要特征之一。在例如题为‘Low Power Adavantage of 802.11a/g vs.802.11b’的德州仪器白皮书中描述了这种方法,其在此包含引作参考。所以,无线组件的低功率特征使其非常适于在任何基于布线供电的方案中,也在任何非本地馈电情况中使用。 
在传送OFDM信号的相同电线上传送电力的其他优点与OFDM信号的优良特性相关。已知的单载波调制使用整个频谱用于整个数据速率(单‘二进制’方法),因此严重受到白噪声和单频噪声影响。相反,OFDM使用多个‘二进制’,每个传送数据的一部分,所以较少受到白或窄带噪声的影响。已知电源是有噪声的,特别是在特定的频率处,诸如PWM频率的谐波(在基于PWM的电源中)。进一步,连接有线媒介到电源和负载的电线也用作天线并且接收来自环境的噪声。由于OFDM非常健壮,上述影响没有那么严重,这样允许较佳的性能,并消除了对于复杂和昂贵滤波器的需求。 
而且,由于上述网络用于服务电池供电的无线客户端(STA),因此即 使在电源断电的情况下也可操作,在布线上传送电力考虑到在这种情况下继续网络运行。该电力典型源自中央备份电源(例如,UPS-不间断电源),以及即使在电源断电的情况下也允许经由布线媒介网络继续运行。

总结

Claims (15)

1.一种用于在建筑物内的电话线对(62)上发送和接收数字数据的设备(60),所述电话线对同时在模拟电话频带(41)中传送模拟电话信号,以及在独立于且高于模拟电话频带的数字数据频带(43)中传送扩展频谱数字数据信号,所述设备包括:
可连接电话线对的第一电话连接器(36);
耦合至所述第一电话连接器的高通滤波器(32),用于仅通过位于数字数据频带中的信号;

2.根据权利要求1所述的设备,所述设备被构造用于耦合模拟电话信号到模拟电话单元,以及所述设备还包括:
可连接模拟电话单元的第二电话连接器(35);以及
在所述第一和第二电话连接器之间耦合的并用于仅通过模拟电话信号的低通滤波器(34)。
3.根据权利要求1或2所述的设备,其中所述调制解调器至少包括以下之一:无线基带处理器;无线I/O调制器;和无线RF-IF变换器。
4.根据权利要求1或2所述的设备,其中所述调制解调器包括:
构造用于接收和发送在无线电频带中的信号的无线调制解调器(17);和
耦合至所述无线调制解调器并构造用于从无线电频带变换成数字数据频带的上/下变换器(31)。
5.根据权利要求4所述的设备,其中所述上/下变换器(50)是基于超外差的。
6.根据权利要求4所述的设备,还包括天线(22),用于在无线媒介中辐射和接收无线电频带中的信号;
所述上/下变换器(31)耦合在所述天线和高通滤波器之间,并构造用于从无线电频带传送数字数据信号到有线数字数据频带。
7.根据权利要求1到2任何之一所述的设备,还包括容纳所述第一电话连接器、所述调制解调器、所述数据连接器和所述收发信机的单个外壳,其中所述外壳可附加到墙壁上,或集成到电话插座中,或机械和电气附加到电话插座上并且可从电话插座拆卸。
8.根据权利要求1到2任何之一所述的设备,其中所述电话线对同时传送电信号,以及所述设备连接通过该电信号供电的电话线对。
9.根据权利要求4所述的设备,其中所述无线电频带中的信号基于IEEE802.11标准。
10.根据权利要求1到2任何之一所述的设备,其中所述无线电频带是900MHz、2.4GHz和5.8GHz其中之一的自由许可频带。
11.一种能够基于建筑物内的电话布线使用扩展频谱的数字数据信号在第一和第二数据单元(66a,66b)之间通信的网络(75),该网络包括:

根据权利要求7所述的连接所述电话线线对的第二设备(60b),所述第二设备可连接用于与所述第二数据单元进行基于分组的双向通信并且被构造用于耦合所述数字数据信号至第二数据单元。
12.根据权利要求11的网络还构造用于模拟电话,其中所述第一和第二设备的其中至少之一可连接模拟电话设备(65a,65b),并构造用于耦合模拟电话信号到模拟电话设备。
13.根据权利要求11或12所述的网络,其中所述电话线对同时传送电信号,以及至少一个所述设备的至少一部分被构造用于通过该电信号供电。
14.根据权利要求11到12的任何之一所述的网络,其中利用以下之一在无线媒介中、在无线电频带中调制数字数据信号:OFDM;DMT;和CDMA。
