背景技术
电视收视率系统已普及了数十年。这种电视收视率系统基于电子测量系统,该电子测量系统测量收看了什么电视节目以及收看观众的人数统计。例如,Nielsen Media Research基于被称为Nielsen收视调查仪(People Meter)的电子测量系统在美国和加拿大提供收视率调查。该收视调查仪设置在随机选择和招募的大约5000个家庭的随机样本中。在样本家庭中,对每一台电视机使用一台收视调查仪。该收视调查仪电子地监测各个家庭内的频道变化,以及与该频道变化相关的时间。然后,将该时间和频道变化数据与实质上形成为电视指南(该电视指南提供现有电视节目的本地频道和时间段)的数据库相关联,从而使得该频道变化能够与特定的电视节目相关联。

本地存储所有测量样本的调台数据,直到例如每天自动地取出和处理这些数据,以发布给电视行业。这种收视率信息对于包括设定商业广告时间费用的多种商业决策是有用的。
对于各种类型的应用,简化视频内容和相关电视收视率数据的相关性会有所帮助。此外,视频内容和收视率数据是不可检索的。因此,根据目前的技术,必须人工检索视频内容和收视率数据。一旦找到所需的视频内容或收视率内容,必须分别检索对应的视频或收视率数据,这使处理变得很繁琐。不幸的是,当前的系统仅提供视频内容和收视率数据的单独比较。
因此,需要下述的系统,该系统能够独立地获取并存档视频内容和收视率数据,以使所存储的视频内容可检索,并且其中对视频内容和收视率数据自动进行匹配,并在显示器中以并排的格式同步地向用户显示。
发明内容
简单地说,本发明涉及一种系统,该系统用于从各种视频内容源独立地获取视频内容并独立地获取收视率数据。将该视频内容和收视率数据与元数据(metadata)一起进行存储,以使该视频内容和收视率数据可检索。同步引擎自动将视频内容链接到收视率数据。这样,可以通过包括因特网的不同平台,以相邻(contiguous)的格式同步地向用户显示所选择的视频内容和对应的收视率数据。

具体实施方式
本发明涉及一种用于独立地获取和存储视频内容以及收视率数据的系统。与嵌入式参数一起存储该视频内容和收视率数据,这使得可以检索该视频内容和收视率数据。将该视频内容链接到对应的收视率数据,这使得能够例如通过由个人数字助理(PDA)进行的无线连接,在各种平台(例如,万维网)上并排地显示该视频内容和收视率数据。
参照图1来说明根据本发明的系统的总体操作。如图所示,获取视频内容和收视率数据,如步骤22和24所示。在视频内容和收视率数据的版权由不同的版权所有者拥有的情况下,独立地获取视频内容和收视率数据。在视频内容和收视率数据的版权由同一组织拥有的情况下,可以由同一服务器来执行获取视频内容和收视率数据的步骤。
根据本发明的一个方面,在步骤26和28中,以可检索的格式对视频内容和收视率数据进行归档。具体地,将元数据嵌入视频内容以及收视率数据,以使得能够将视频内容和收视率数据作为所嵌入参数的函数进行检索。
根据本发明的另一重要方面,在步骤30中对视频内容和收视率数据自动进行匹配,并以同步的方式显示在平台上。这样,该系统提供可搜索的视频内容和收视率数据,并且对视频内容和收视率数据自动进行匹配,并在诸如万维网的各种公知平台上以并排的格式显示视频内容和对应的收视率数据。
图2是根据本发明的系统的方框图,表示视频内容获取子系统32和收视率获取子系统34。视频内容获取子系统32包括视频内容源36。该视频内容源可以包括各种格式的视频内容源,例如高级电视标准委员会(ATSC)、欧洲数字视频广播(DVB)、运动图像专家组(MPEG)。音频/视频内容36可以是压缩的或未压缩的,并且可以从地面广播、卫星或电缆馈入获取。该视频内容还可以是来自录像带源的归档视频。

用于视频内容的非压缩源的嵌入信息包括元数据,例如隐藏式字幕(close caption)数据(其可以嵌入在视频内容的垂直空白间隔中)或者另选地,音频水印。对于压缩视频内容信号,该嵌入信息可以包括在压缩视频的用户数据域、MPEG音频以及AC3的辅助数据域、以及独立数据信道中传送的信息。例如,该嵌入信息可以包括用于识别感兴趣的节目的信息,例如节目标识(ID)日期和时间。
内容信息包括PSIP、制作者/资产名称/版权信息,以及与内容相关的其它信息。编码参数包括使用视频内容的空间/时间分量、场景剪辑、分段以及动作跟踪的结构信息。编码参数还可以包括低级别特征,例如质地/颜色、概念信息、视频中的对象和视频中的事件的交互等。已知存在用于从视频内容中提取嵌入数据的多种系统。例如,美国专利No.6,313,886(在此通过引用并入)公开了一种用于从视频信号中提取PSIP数据的系统。已知用于提取嵌入在视频内容中的其它类型的数据(例如隐藏式字幕数据、运动分析等)的其它系统。
通过预处理器特征提取器37从视频内容36中提取诸如PSIP数据、隐藏式字幕数据等的特征数据,并将该数据传送给稍后描述的编码器44,该编码器44以适于在收视率获取子系统34中使用的格式对所提取的数据进行编码。通过预处理器特征提取器37提取嵌入信息和内容信息(通常用标号46表示),并且例如通过加密器40(其对嵌入信息和内容信息进行加密)传送给嵌入元数据插入器42。
代码转换器/编码器38将视频内容处理为适于在其它平台上重放的格式。例如,代码转换器/编码器38可以用于将相对高分辨率的视频内容(即,标准分辨率信号以及19.39Mbps的高分辨率信号)转换为相对低分辨率/低带宽,以用于例如无线平台中,例如,以200Kbps的速率将340×240的视频实时地转换为诸如Windows Media、Real、Quick Time或JPEG格式的多种格式。在非压缩视频内容的情况下,如上所述,代码转换器/编码器38将视频内容压缩为适用于无线平台的相对低分辨率/低带宽速率(bandwidth rate)。
将经加密的嵌入信息和内容信息嵌入在由代码转换器/编码器38生成的用作为元数据的低位流中。该元数据可以作为系统层(在该系统层中,没有对信息进行压缩)嵌入,或者可以嵌入在压缩层(在该压缩层中,可以对元数据进行压缩并存储为听不见的音频编码或数字水印)中。将所嵌入的元数据用于包括数字权利管理在内的各种目的。
所嵌入的元数据可以包括节目名称、节目源、以及用于识别传送时间的音频部中的时间编码。所嵌入的元数据还可以包括根据系统时间的获取日期/时间ProgramStartTimec。该ProgramStartTimec可以是获取的实际时间,或者另选地是从所接收的视频内容36的音频部分或视频中提取的第一接收时间编码。通常,在传输过程中,将这些时间编码嵌入在视频内容中。向诸如远程视频服务器的远程存储装置(通常由标号50表示)发布低分辨率流格式位流。该远程存储装置可以包括CD-ROM/DVD存储装置52或内部网54或因特网56上的存储区域网络。
编码器44使用诸如MPEG-7的标准,将来自预处理器特征提取器37的嵌入信息和内容信息转换为一种编码表示,以下称为编码描述符。将该编码描述符发布或者FTP(即,通过文件传输协议来发送)到生成(authoring)服务器48,该生成服务器48构成收视率获取子系统34的一部分。

由于XML提供了定制标签和值的定义,所以XML尤其适用于数据表达。XML还允许将收视率和其它元数据链接到视频内容中的时间点和空间点。元数据包装62可以与和介质类型无关的不同格式的视频(即,高分辨率MPEG、Windows Media、Real、JPEG等)相关联,并因此可以认为是“带外(out of band)”。
将元数据包装62发布给由收视率服务器实现的数据库64。还可以将该元数据包装62发布给第三方数据库以及用于更大服务器规模的媒介资产管理系统66。
图3表示一种用于向各种用户平台提供可检索的视频和收视率内容的高级显示系统,该显示系统使得能够在用户平台74上检索视频和收视率内容、选择并且显示在视频显示窗口70中,同时在收视率显示窗口72中显示对应的收视率数据。另选地,可以将收视率数据和视频内容显示在同一窗口中,在该窗口中,收视率数据叠加在视频内容上。具体地,用户平台74仅需一个用于显示的标准网络浏览器。
用户平台74(例如,无线个人数字助理)可以通过数字权利管理子系统80和82,分别与视频服务器50和收视率数据服务器64相连。这些数字权利管理子系统80和82是公知的,并且只允许经版权所有者同意的最终用户对服务器76和78进行访问。可以将视频内容数字权利管理子系统80实现为独立服务器,或者可以合并在视频内容服务器50中。类似地,也可以将收视率数字权利管理子系统82实现为独立服务器82,或者可以合并在服务器64中。如果版权所有者向该用户授权,则视频内容数字权利管理子系统80和收视率数据数字权利管理子系统82允许最终用户平台74访问服务器76和78。
根据该优选实施例,最终用户可以使用可检索的参数来检索视频内容和收视率数据或者其中的任何一个。一旦选择了视频或收视率内容,则在视频窗口70中显示该视频内容。然后使用同步引擎或模块(图4)来使对应的收视率数据与视频内容同步,并在收视率显示窗口72中显示该收视率数据。可以将该同步模块实现为自包含的ActiveX对象、单独的软件播放器、可执行Java小程序、HTML页面或上述的组合。
考虑同步模块84的两个实施例。在图4所示的一个实施例中,在客户端实现同步模块84。在图6所示的另选实施例中,在服务器端实现同步模块84的匹配器部分。
参照图4,将来自视频服务器50或硬盘驱动器的视频内容沿由标号85表示的路径输入到同步模块84内的视频解码器86。该视频解码器86对视频内容进行解码,并将视频数据与所嵌入的元数据分离。将视频数据输入视频显示窗口70,并进行显示。将如上所述进行了加密的嵌入元数据提供给解密引擎90,在解密引擎90对其进行解密。将由视频解码器86解码的视频解码时间戳102提供给匹配器106。将所解密的元数据用于使用内容信息作为关键字对收视率数据库96进行查询,以检索收视率数据,如数据路径92所示。然后将该收视率数据输入给收视率服务器78,可以将该收视率服务器78实现为HTTP服务器或者RTSP服务器。
可以将该收视率数据作为XML数据进行传送,或者作为HTML页面传回。在HTML页面的情况下,可以使用XSL引擎将XML数据转换为适当的格式。通过收视率解码器98对收视率数据进行解码,并将其存储在收视率数组100中,该收视率数组100将收视率解码时间戳输入给匹配器106,匹配器106进而用于通过该视频解码时间戳沿数据路径102对视频内容进行匹配或索引。使用在附录中提供的示例性匹配算法,通过匹配器106对收视率解码时间戳和视频解码时间戳进行比较。如果视频解码时间戳与收视率解码时间戳相对应,则匹配器106通过开关108将所解码的收视率数据从收视率解码器98提供给收视率显示窗口72。
如上所述,图6是同步模块的另选实施例。如图所示,使用相同的标号来表示相同的设备。如图所示,图4和图6中所示的同步模块之间的差异仅在于:在图6中,在系统的服务器端实现匹配器106,除此之外这两个系统基本相同。

Claims (44)
1、一种用于获取链接到收视率数据的视频数据的系统,该系统自动地将所述视频内容与对应的收视率数据进行匹配,来以同步的方式显示给最终用户,所述系统包括:
视频获取子系统,用于从各种源获取并存储视频内容;
收视率获取子系统,用于获取并存储收视率数据,并自动将所述收视率数据链接至对应的视频内容;以及
显示系统,其被构造为以同步的方式显示所述视频内容和收视率数据。
2、根据权利要求1所述的系统,其中所述视频获取子系统包括:
参数提取器,用于从第一视频格式的视频内容中提取多个预定的参数;
代码转换器,用于将第一视频格式的所述视频内容转换为第二视频格式;以及
元数据插入器,用于将所述多个提取的参数嵌入所述第二视频格式的所述视频内容中。
3、根据权利要求2所述的系统,其中所述视频获取子系统还包括加密器,用于在将所述多个提取的参数嵌入所述第二视频格式的所述视频内容中之前,对所述多个预定的提取参数进行加密。
4、根据权利要求2所述的系统,其中所述多个参数包括嵌入信息。
5、根据权利要求4所述的系统,其中所述第二视频格式是非压缩的。
6、根据权利要求5所述的系统,其中所述参数包括隐藏式字幕数据。
7、根据权利要求6所述的系统,其中所述隐藏式字幕数据被嵌入在所述垂直空白间隔(VBI)中。
8、根据权利要求4所述的系统,其中所述第二视频格式是压缩的。
9、根据权利要求8所述的系统,其中所述多个参数包括所述压缩视频的用户数据域中的数据。
10、根据权利要求8所述的系统,其中所述多个参数包括在MPEG音频的辅助数据域中所包含的数据。
11、根据权利要求8所述的系统,其中所述多个参数包括与预定节目相关的信息。
12、根据权利要求11所述的系统,其中所述信息包括节目标识符(ID)。
13、根据权利要求11所述的系统,其中所述信息包括与预定节目相关的时间信息。
14、根据权利要求13所述的系统,其中所述时间信息与节目所广播的数据相关。
15、根据权利要求13所述的系统,其中所述时间信息与节目所广播的时间相关。
16、根据权利要求2所述的系统,其中所述多个参数包括内容信息。
17、根据权利要求16所述的系统,其中所述内容信息涉及PSIP数据。
18、根据权利要求16所述的系统,其中所述内容信息涉及版权信息。
19、根据权利要求16所述的系统,其中所述内容信息涉及资产名称。
20、根据权利要求16所述的系统,其中所述内容信息涉及制作者。
21、根据权利要求21所述的系统,其中所述多个参数包括多个编码参数。
22、根据权利要求21所述的系统,其中所述多个参数涉及空间时间分量的结构信息。
23、根据权利要求1所述的系统,其中用于显示所选择的视频内容和对应的收视率数据的所述系统包括同步模块。
24、根据权利要求1所述的系统,其中所述同步模块包括一系统,该系统用于对视频内容和收视率数据进行解码,并产生进行比较的视频解码时间戳和收视率解码时间戳,该比较的结果用于使收视率数据与视频内容同步。
25、根据权利要求24所述的系统,其中所述同步模块包括视频解码器,该视频解码器从视频内容中提取所嵌入的元数据,该元数据用于检索收视率数据。
26、根据权利要求1所述的系统,其中所述视频获取子系统被构造为使得能够在所述视频内容中嵌入多个可检索参数,这些可检索参数使得最终用户能够检索所述视频内容。
27、根据权利要求1所述的系统,其中所述收视率获取子系统被构造为使得能够在所述收视率数据中嵌入多个可检索参数,这些可检索参数使得最终用户能够检索所述收视率数据。
28、一种用于以同步的方式显示视频内容和收视率数据的系统,该系统包括:
视频子系统,其包括所存储的视频内容;
收视率子系统,其包括所存储的收视率数据;以及
同步引擎,用于使视频内容及其对应收视率数据的回放同步。
29、根据权利要求28所述的系统,其中所述系统被构造为使得在相邻的窗口中回放视频内容和收视率数据。
30、根据权利要求28所述的系统,其中所述系统被构造为使得在单个窗口中将所述收视率数据叠加到所述视频内容中。
31、根据权利要求28所述的系统,其中所述所存储的视频内容包括所嵌入的多个可检索参数,这些可检索参数使得最终用户能够检索所述视频内容。
32、根据权利要求28所述的系统,其中所述所存储的收视率数据包括所嵌入的多个可检索参数,这些可检索参数使得最终用户能够检索所述收视率数据。
33、一种用于将收视率数据与对应的视频内容相关联的处理,所述处理包括以下步骤:
a)存储视频内容;
b)存储收视率数据;并且
c)自动链接所述收视率数据和所述视频内容。

d)以同步的方式显示所述视频内容和收视率数据。
35、根据权利要求34所述的处理,其中在相邻的窗口中显示所述视频内容和收视率数据。
36、根据权利要求34所述的处理,其中在同一窗口中将所述收视率数据叠加到所述视频内容中。
37、根据权利要求33所述的处理,其中与多个可检索参数一起存储所述视频内容,这些可检索参数使得最终用户能够检索所述视频内容。
