发明背景
技术领域
本发明配置涉及LCOS(硅上的液晶)和/或LCD(液晶显示器)视频投影系统领域。尤其涉及自动调节LCOS/LCD投影系统中共模电极电压。
相关技术的描述
在LCOS系统中,需要对象素把共模电极电压精确地设置到正负驱动电压之间。典型地通过首先发送个标准帧以及之后的反向帧而利用两倍帧信号,响应于给定的输入图像驱动LCOS显示器的成象器,从而避免30HZ的闪烁,在标准帧中与每个盒相连的电极电压相对于公共电极的电压为正(正图像),在反相帧中与每个盒相连的电极电压相对于公共电极的电压为负(负图像)。共模电极电压表示为VITO,其中后面的字母ITO表示氧化铟锡,即LCOS晶片的电极基底处的电压由这些材料制成。以这种方式设置VITO避免闪烁和图像滞留,而闪烁和图像滞留反过来会影响器件的寿命。由于现在是通过开环控制完成此设置,故有在VITO中出现误差的以及随时间和温度变动的机会。
现有技术的典型实施是使用一个开环DAC(数字模拟转换器),从而允许利用一个快光电二极管拾取器调节VITO以及利用一个示波器和一个控制器进行视觉校准。
LCOS现有技术状态需要调节共模电极电压,以便对LCOS匹配正负场驱动。要将闪烁减到最小以及避免已知的“图像暂留”现象,平衡是必需的。为了避免可视的闪烁,一般可行的是利用较高的帧速率、典型的为120Hz来抑制闪烁。但是,较高的帧速率使得调节共模电极电压更困难,因为人眼看不到闪烁。操作者可以进行必需的调节。这可以利用光电二极管或其它的快速探测器以及平衡输出的AC成分而克服。不幸的是,这种开环调节由于系统中的热效应而显得不足。
因此,存在以自动考虑系统中的热效应的方式控制LCOS/LCD中共模电极电压并克服由于较高的帧速率而不能进行手工调节的不足的需要。
                              发明概述
根据本发明的装置,在系统中至少使用一个传感器,以便利用反馈以连续的方式进行共模电极调节。这可以根据本发明的装置以几种方式实现。第一系统水平的实施在图像的总扫描区放置一个或多个传感器。最好把具有适当颜色和驱动水平的视频信号施加到成象器以测量闪烁。然后可以对底架微处理器编程以读出正负场探测器电压并决定正负场探测器电压之差。此差值可以有利地用于反馈以调节共模电极电压。此反馈避免了由于不正确的共模电压在初始上电时对成象器的损坏的可能性。此反馈还确保动态地重调节共模电极以减小图像滞留。
在本发明的另一个目的中,用于控制液晶显示器中共模电极电压的装置包括一个偏振光源和一个探测器,偏振光源具有预定的强度水平,经过液晶盒至少对第一传感器照明,探测器对液晶盒提供反馈信号,从而调节共模电极电压。

                            详细描述
本优选实施例的框图如图1所示。本实施例10采用两个传感器避免环境光排斥的问题,其中主传感器用标号12表示,次传感器用标号14表示。两个传感器之间的差分感应要减去由于环境光的共模信号。两个传感器可以放置在图像过扫描区中相距很短的距离(例如1-2英寸)。或者,传感器可以放置在光路中其它的位置,包括折叠镜下,其中该折叠反射镜主要存在于没有过扫描的系统情形下的电视机壳中。针孔将各允许足够的光到达探测器,其中该针孔既可以是有意制作的,也可以是自然存在的。传感器12和14之间的差分感应最好通过取传感器的各自输出并将它们缓存在各个缓存器13和15中、并利用缓存的输出作为对差分放大器16的输入而实现。差分放大器16的输出充当对探测器18的输入,其被反馈给系统微处理器19,以便调节共模电极电压。探测器18最好是选通的并由微处理器控制。当微处理器19从探测器18抽样信号时指示选通脉冲,并且光的颜色用作对探测器18照明。这样允许系统只对红、绿和蓝成象器使用一个传感器并从反向的和非反向的场中顺序地感应光。
“信号”传感器12可以根据输入到成象器的视频以预定的光强度水平交替地照明。反向的和非反向的场之间的光亮水平之差被发送给探测器18以确定共模电压是太高还是太低。传感器12将探测到反向和非反向场之间光输出的变化。这种光输出的变化是由DC非平衡导致的反向和非反向帧之间LC单元上的RMS电压中轻微的变化所致。此变化的大小受共模电极控制。控制微处理器19可以决定是否需要共模电极电压变化。这可以以对于每个成象器颜色有多个传感器的并行模式进行,也可以以通过改变产生照明的成象器的顺序模式进行。因为系统的响应时间将有意地减慢以避免响应噪音,所以最好基于较低的成本优选该顺序的系统。
可以有多种类型的探测器和方法用于执行本发明,但最简单的并且也可能是最有效的是一种选通比较器,其输出表示改变共模电极电压的方向。控制微处理器轮询(探测器内的)比较器的位,寻找从低到高的转变。一旦探测到从低到高的转变,微处理器即确定在相反方向上的步骤产生从高到低的转变,并且因此实现目标电压。象期望的那样,需要某种程度的基于滞后和均化的软件。可以采用更复杂的探测器,如A/D转换器或其它的数字处理,但考虑到成本效益,目前很少使用。
作为一个附加的特征,为了迅速会聚,探测器18的增益减小和在软件中步进搜索大小的增大是理想的。
同样有效的另一实施例是可以集成到成象器、由此避免环境光亮导致的问题的情形。可以把例如为光电二极管的传感器放置在LCOS和/或“环电极”的电未调节区之上的盖玻璃的顶上。“环电极”在LCOS装置中是一个通称。一般地,象素反射镜之外的LCOS显示器的非有源区是一个单独的大板。此大板与象素的其余部分一样是反射性的,但有非常大的面积,因而具有比其它象素高的电容值。环电极也主要被驱动黑色以便抑制来自照明系统的碰到光学元件上的杂散光。固有地需要杂散光或照射到环电极区的光以提供光学系统中的组装容差,使得在需要时光将适宜地照射到显示器所有的可视区。在LCOS显示器的可视区中“环电极”不需要象象素那样以很高的速度调制,因此可以由低带宽放大器驱动,并且出于本实施例的目的,可以在简短的时间周期和稍高于黑色的水平驱动,而不会由于碰撞到光学元件上而导致任何可感觉的光量。因此,这些传感器可以用于检查电光传递函数中的零电压点(未调制)和最大电压点(环电极)。然后可以把来自光电二极管的探测器电压用于选择正确的共模电极电压。此实施例的缺点在于需要传感器的精确放置。
本发明更高集成的实施例示于图2。在本例中,装置20包括放置在LCOS装置周围的感应单元或光电探测器26以及用作照明源的LED22。在盖玻璃上放置一个小反射镜24以将LED光反射回到光电探测器26,其也形成在LCOS的背平面上。传感放大器和反馈电路(未示出)也集成在背平面上。如在前面的实施例中那样,传感器的输出最好缓存在至少一个缓存器(27)中,并且把缓存的输出用作对探测器28的输入,其馈送到系统微处理器29。探测器28的另一项输出也充当对微处理器29的选通脉冲,与关于对微处理器19的选通脉冲的描述一样。此方法的优点在于由于在成象器大的硅区域上的集成,使成本降低,并且提高了对环境光干扰的抗扰力。如果希望避免对比度的损耗,LED发射器和传感器还可以在不可视波段(如红外)调谐。在本实施例中,测量探测器28的输出电压以在共模电极电压中进行相应的变化。光电二极管探测器(28)的输出电压与落在传感器26上的光功率成比例。从长远看,此集成将提供最低的成本配置。
参见图3,图中示出了一种控制液晶显示器中共模电极电压的方法。最好该方法50包括在方框52处向成象器施加具有预定颜色和驱动水平的视频信号和在方框54处测量施加视频信号导致的闪烁的步骤。方框56中的方法50确定了正场探测器电压和负场探测器电压之间的压差,并在方框58处将压差反馈到控制器以调节共模电极电压。确定步骤可以以多种方式实现。例如,在图像的过扫描区中使用至少一个传感器或利用一个主传感器、次传感器和差分放大器除去由环境光所致的共模信号,或利用一个输出指示通用电极电压变化的方向的选通比较器。该方法还可以包括动态重调节共模电极电压以减少图像滞留的步骤。

Claims (20)

1.一种控制液晶显示器中共模电极电压的方法,该方法包括步骤:
向成象器施加具有预定颜色和驱动水平的视频信号;
确定正场探测器电压和负场探测器电压之间的压差;和
将压差反馈给控制器以调节共模电极电压。
2.如权利要求1所述的方法,其特征在于确定步骤还包括使用在图像的过扫描区中的至少一个传感器的步骤。
3.如权利要求1所述的方法,其特征在于本方法还包括动态重调节共模电极电压以减少图像滞留的步骤。
4.如权利要求1所述的方法,其特征在于判定步骤还包括使用一个主传感器、次传感器和差分放大器除去环境光所致的共模信号的步骤。
5.如权利要求1所述的方法,其特征在于确定压差的步骤还包括利用一个输出指示通用电极电压变化的方向的选通比较器的步骤。
6.如权利要求1所述的方法,其特征在于确定压差的步骤还包括利用传感器的步骤。
7.如权利要求1所述的方法,其特征在于确定压差的步骤还包括测量由于施加的视频信号导致的闪烁的步骤。
8.一种用于控制液晶显示器中共模电极电压的装置,该装置包括:
一个探测器,用于确定正场探测器电压和负场探测器电压之间的压差;和
一个反馈回路,用于将压差反馈给控制器以调节共模电极电压。
