Abstract

2、问题陈述
光波分复用逐渐成为光纤通信系统的标准骨干网络。WDM系统使用包括若干个波长不同的光信号的信号,用来在光纤上传输信息,称作载波信号或者通道。每个载波信号被一个或者多个信息调制。因此,可以使用WDM技术在一个单一的光纤上传输许多信息信号。

发明概述

发明详述
1、概述
本发明两个分解器(例如光谱分离)和路由器(例如空间排列)一个波分复用(WDM)光信号。图1a和1b是介绍本发明一般功能的框图。一个WDM信号500包括多个通道,每个通道具有自己的波长或者频率范围。在这个文件中,术语“通道”或者“频带”指的是定义一个唯一信息信号的频率和波长的一个特定范围。每个通道常常可能与相邻通道空开,尽管这不是必需的。不一致的空间可能导致设计中的一些复杂性,但是就象将要看的,本发明可以适合于这样一个通道系统。这种灵活性的特征在于通道安排很大程度上被发射器(例如激光二极管)和探测器的技术可能性所驱动,因此灵活性很重要。

2、双级路由器
图2a和图2b是简图,介绍一个双级波长路由器999的两个控制状态。波长路由器999处于一个控制位的两个控制状态下,因此具有两个控制状态。路由器999用于分开施加到一个输入端口11的波长谱的通道,确定输出端口13、14中的哪一个端口被耦合到每一个通道。

3、单级路由器
在图3a和3b中介绍了使用一个单级可交换波长路由器的双级波长路由器的简化版本,用于工作的两个状态。与图2a和2b中的双级设计相比,这个结构有两个变化。去掉了图2a和图2b中的第二个堆叠的波盘元件62,第二个偏振旋转器41被一个被动的偏振旋转器代替,这个偏振旋转器具有两个子元件用于截取光束108和109,象图3a和图3b中说明的。
单级波长滤波器工作方式基本上和双级路由器的方式相同,直到光束107-110离开第二个双折射元件50。在第二个双折射元件50的输出,分开的第一个和第二个频带分别通过两组正交偏振光束107、108和109、110传输。第一个和第二个光谱带的位置依赖于光束103和104的偏振状态。如果第一个光谱带被第一个旋转器40水平偏振,那么它在较低的输出端口13上离开,而第二个频带将在上面的输出端口14上离开。因为在第二个双折射元件50中的双折射离散效应,垂直偏振光束107、108偏离它们原始的路线,向上传输,水平偏振光束109、110穿过元件50,而不需要改变它们的方向。离开第二个双折射元件50的两个光束对107、108和109、110具有相同的偏振,但是不同的频率。
无源的偏振旋转器41仅在截取光束108和109的区域模仿旋转偏振。因而,在旋转器41的输出,产生用于第一个和第二个光谱带的光束115、116和117、118的正交偏振对。这些光束115-118然后通过第三个双折射元件70重组,并且离开元件70输出到端口13和14。
单级可交换波长路由器的优点是与双级路由器相比需要的元件很少。然而,它的光谱纯度不如双级路由器好。它将依赖于应用和特定WDM网络的需要,优选单级或者双级波长路由器。
本发明的一个优点是基本上保存了所有在WDM信号500中可用的光能量的情况下完成路由。这就是说不管WDM信号中的信号偏振,使用水平和垂直偏振的分量,并且在输出端口13、14上重组,导致通过路由器999时很低的损耗。
双折射波盘61、62的每组被定向到一个相对于偏振旋转器40的光轴唯一的光轴角。象上面早些时候提到的,堆叠的波盘元件61、62的光谱设计依赖于WDM网络需要的应用。下面,我们列出三个可以用于现在的WDM系统的不同的设计。第一个例子使用平均分配子光谱的堆叠的波盘,两个频谱中心位于1533和1557nm波长。在第二个例子中,堆叠的波盘产生非对称子光谱。这种设计可用于一个增加/删除光滤波器应用。第三个设计覆盖1310和1550nm波长网络光纤的两个传输窗口。在这个例子中,1310和1550nm的中心波长可交换的被路由到输出端口之一。
例1
三个铌酸锂(LiNbO3)波盘具有1mm的厚度,被堆叠在一起,构成一个平顶的、均分的光谱,象在图4中示出的,通道串扰低于30dB。试验结果基于双级可交换波长路由器。这种出色性能在于滤波器技术,如使用多层绝缘涂层,一般可以得到20dB的串扰。因为在两个输出端口上的等光谱设计,所以可以进一步堆叠这种类型的可交换波长路由器。随着堆叠“n”级路由器,产生总共2n个输出端口。可以根据n个控制信号,排列这些2n个端口的输出频谱,建立一个可编程的波长路由器。
例2
图5示出了一个非对称光谱设计,其中一个输出端口与另一个端口相比传输一个很窄光谱带宽。当在一个光交换节点上需要增加或者删除光通道时,这种设计可以被应用到一个WDM网络。依赖于系统设计和需要,增加/删除滤波器可以是被动的或者是主动的。交换元件即可交换偏振旋转器阵列,可以在偏振旋转器的每个相应位置上被两个两个被动的半波盘代替,因此总可以作为增加/删除端口设计其中一个端口。光通道的剩余部分通过波长路由器并且沿着WDM网络继续传播。
例3
如图6所示,为了光纤通信,本发明可以进一步扩展到覆盖两个工作波长窗口,波长的中心位于1310和1550nm。在工业中为了完成这个任务,广泛应用了几种技术(例如光纤熔接和多涂层技术)。然而本设计提供较低的串扰和一个可交换特性,这是从系统观点的价值。
上面公开的材料公开了本发明一定数目的实施例。没有详细公布其他的实施例,但是在本发明的指导下可以实现,并且在下面的权利要求中说明。
Claims (19)
1、用于交换波分复用(WDM)的光信号的方法,包括的步骤有:
提供用于接收WDM光信号的第一个输入/输出(I/O)端口;
提供第二个I/O端口;
提供第三个I/O端口;
空间上分解从上述第一个I/O端口上得到WDM光信号,得到第一个和第二个光束,这个两个光束互相正交偏振;
旋转上述第一个光束的偏振,以基本上匹配上述第二个光束的偏振;
通过第一个波长滤波器,分解上述具有相同偏振的第一个和第二个光束,第一个波长滤波器具有一个依赖于光传输功能的偏振,因此上述第一个光束被分解为第三个和第四个光束,它们的偏振互相正交;上述第二个光束分解第五个和第六个光束,它们的偏振互相正交,其中上述第三个和第五个光束在第一个偏振上传输第一个预定义的光谱带,上述第四个和第六个光束在第二个偏振上传输第二个预定义的光谱带,其中上述第一个和第二个光谱带基本上是互补的并且上述第一个和第二个偏振是正交的;
根据它们的偏振,空间上路由上述第三个、第四个、第五个和第六个光束;
上述被路由的第三个、第四个、第五个和第六个光束通过第二个波长滤波器,第二个波长滤波器基本上具有和上述第一个波长滤波器相同的传输功能,其中第二个波长滤波器旋转上述第三个、第四个、第五个和第六个光束,使它们返回到相同的偏振状态,这个偏振状态和上述第二个光束进入上述第一个波长滤波器以前的偏振状态相同;
旋转第五个和第六个光束的偏振,因此它们和上述第三个和第四个光束正交;
空间上重组第三个和第五个光束,这两个光束包括上述第一个光谱带,并且在空间上重组上述第四个和第六个光束,这两个光束具有上述第二个光谱带;和
上述第一个光谱带耦合到上述第二个I/O端口,上述第二个光谱带耦合到上述第三个I/O端口。
2、根据权利要求1的方法,其中,空间上分解WDM光信号的步骤使用第一个双折射元件。
3、根据权利要求1的方法,其中,路由上述第三个、第四个、第五个和第六个光束的步骤使用第二个双折射元件。
4、根据权利要求1的方法,其中,重组上述第三个、第四个、第五个和第六个光束的步骤使用第三个双折射元件。
5、根据权利要求1的方法,其中,旋转第一个光束的步骤另外包括将上述第一个和第二个光束通过一个可配置的旋转器阵列,该阵列具有:
(a)第一个区域,用于旋转上述第一个光束的偏振;
(b)第二个区域,用于上述第二个光束经过该区域。
6、根据权利要求1的方法,其中,旋转上述第五个和第六个光束的偏振的步骤包括将第三个、第四个、第五个和第六个光束通过一个可配置的旋转器阵列,该阵列具有:
(a)第一个区域,用于旋转上述第五个和第六个光束的偏振;
(b)第二个区域,用于上述第三个和第四个光束经过该区域。

9、一个交换波分复用(WDM)的光信号的方法,包括的步骤有:
提供用于接收WDM光信号的第一个输入/输出(I/O)端口;
提供第二个I/O端口;
提供第三个I/O端口;
空间上分解从上述第一个I/O端口上得到WDM光信号,得到第一个和第二个光束,这个两个光束互相正交偏振;
旋转上述第一个光束的偏振,以基本上匹配上述第二个光束的偏振;
通过波长滤波器,分解上述具有相同偏振的第一个和第二个光束,这个波长滤波器具有一个依赖于光传输功能的偏振,因此上述第一个光束被分解为第三个和第四个光束,它们的偏振互相正交;上述第二个光束分解第五个和第六个光束,它们的偏振互相正交,其中上述第三个和第五个光束在第一个偏振上传输第一个预定义的光谱带,上述第四个和第六个光束在第二个偏振上传输第二个预定义的光谱带,其中上述第一个和第二个光谱带基本上是互补的并且上述第一个和第二个偏振是正交的;
根据它们的偏振,空间上路由上述第三个、第四个、第五个和第六个光束;
旋转第三个、第四个、第五个和第六个光束的偏振,因此上述第三个和第五个光束正交偏振,上述第四个和第六个光束正交偏振;
旋转第五个和第六个光束的偏振,因此它们和上述第三个和第四个光束正交;
空间上重组第三个和第五个光束,这两个光束包括上述第一个光谱带,并且在空间上重组上述第四个和第六个光束,这两个光束具有上述第二个光谱带;和
上述第一个光谱带耦合到上述第二个I/O端口,上述第二个光谱带耦合到上述第三个I/O端口。

12、根据权利要求9的方法,其中,重组上述第三个、第四个、第五个和第六个光束的步骤使用第三个双折射元件。
13、根据权利要求9的方法,上述波长滤波器包括堆叠的大量双折射波盘,每个波盘被定向到一个预定的方向。
14、根据权利要求9的方法,其中,旋转第一个光束的步骤另外包括将上述第一个和第二个光束通过一个可配置的旋转器阵列,该阵列具有:
(a)第一个区域,旋转上述第一个光束的偏振;
(b)第二个区域,上述第二个光束经过该区域。
15、根据权利要求9的方法,其中,旋转上述第五个和第六个光束的偏振的步骤包括将第三个、第四个、第五个和第六个光束通过一个可配置的旋转器阵列,该阵列具有:
(a)第一个区域,用于旋转上述第五个光束的偏振;
(b)第二个区域,用于旋转上述第六个光束的偏振;
(c)第三个区域,用于在不需要旋转第三个光束的情况下,使该光束通过;
(d)第四个区域,用于在不需要旋转第四个光束的情况下,使该光束通过。
16、一个可交换波长路由器,包括:
第一个双折射元件,用于接收一个WDM光信号,并且分解上述WDM光信号,得到具有正交偏振的第一个光束和第二个光束,并且这两个光束在空间上分开;
第一个偏振旋转器,这个偏振旋转器具有第一个控制状态,在这个控制状态中,旋转上述第一个光束的偏振,使它基本上匹配上述第二个光束的偏振,还具有第二个控制状态,在这个控制状态中,旋转上述第二个光束的偏振,使它基本上匹配上述第一个光束的偏振;通过一个外部的控制信号可以切换上述第一个偏振旋转器的控制状态;
一个波长滤波器,接收来自上述第一个偏振旋转器的上述第一个和第二个光束,上述波长路波器具有一个依赖于光传输功能的偏振,因此上述第一个光束分解成第三个和第四个光束,这两个光束的偏振互相正交,并且上述第二个光束分解成第五个和第六个光束,这两个光束的偏振互相正交,其中上述第三个和第五个光束在第一个偏振上传输第一个预定的光谱带,上述第四个和第六个光束在第二个偏振上传输第二个预定的光谱带,其中上述第一个和第二个光谱带基本上互补,并且上述第一个偏振和第二个偏振基本上正交;
第二个双折射元件,用于在空间上分开第三个、第四个、第五个和第六个光束,得到四个水平偏振和垂直偏振的分量;
第二个偏振旋转器,用于旋转上述第三个、第四个、第五个和第六个光束的偏振,因此上述第三个和第五个光束正交偏振,上述第四个和第六个光束正交偏振;和
第三个双折射元件,用于接收上述来自第二个偏振旋转器的第三个、第四个、第五个和第六个光束,在空间上重组上述包括第一个光谱带的第三个和第五个光束,并且在空间上重组上述包括第二个光谱带的第四个和第六个光束;
17、根据权利要求16的路由器,其中,上述第一个波长滤波器另外包括:
第一个区域,用于在上述第一个控制状态中旋转上述第一个光束的偏振,上述第一个光束在上述第二个状态中不需要旋转的情况下通过这个区域;和
第二个区域,上述第二个光束在第一个控制状态中不需要旋转的情况下通过这个区域,并且在第二个控制状态中旋转上述第二个光束的偏振。
18、根据权利要求16的路由器,其中,上述第二个偏振旋转器另外包括:
(a)第一个区域,用于旋转上述第五个光束的偏振;
(b)第二个区域,用于旋转上述第六个光束的偏振;
(c)第三个区域,用于在不需要旋转第三个光束的情况下,使该光束通过;
(d)第四个区域,用于在不需要旋转第四个光束的情况下,使该光束通过。
19、根据权利要求16的路由器,其中,上述波长滤波器包括堆叠的大量的双折射波盘,每个波盘被定向到一个预定的方向。
