背景技术

确定实际上谁在观看节目(它是电视观众报告中所反映的另一个传统的测量)，所述节目是由在以统计方式选中的监测点的被监测设备接收到的。一个感兴趣的有关的测量是识别诸如在因特网上所提供的在线业务等在线业务的用户。此外，清楚的是，测量处在以统计方式选中的监测点的观众的成员(他们相互作用地使用电视和/或访问因特网及用于把信息传递到这些成员的信息传递设备)仍是很重要的。

在计算机领域内已提出了许多配置用于可靠地识别用户以致只有选中的个人才能安全地访问计算机或计算机系统上的一些数据。这些配置中最常用的是需要用户输入他或她所要求的标识符及密码的配置。其它配置包括使用诸如图象或语言识别装置等各种生物统计技术。此外，在观众测量领域中众所周知的是使用基于计算机的图象识别来识别观众的成分。本领域内著名的是Lu在4,858,000号美国专利中的介绍。这里引用该专利的内容作为参考。
发明内容
依据本发明的一个方面，电视观众测量系统在一广播频道上同时广播的多个电视节目中识别观众选中的电视节目。所述系统包括：读取装置，用于从数字数据流读取数据的；时间标记装置，用于提供与所述读取装置所读取的数据相关的时间标记；测量装置，确定对应于由读取装置所读取的数据和对应于所相关时间标记中至少一个的观众测定测量值。其中，所述读取装置配置为从接收机调谐的第一频道中读取第一识别数据码，所述时间标记装置配置成在读取第一识别数据时提供与它相关的第一时间标记，其中所述读取装置配置成接着从接收机调谐的第二频道读取第二识别数据，所述时间标记装置配置成在读取第二识别数据时提供与它相关的第二时间标记，该观众测定系统包括从相应于第一频道的多路复用数字流中读取第一识别数据；从相应于第二频道的多路复用数字流中读取第二识别数据，以及所述测量装置配置成确定至少一个观众测定测量值，该值对应于第一识别数据和第二识别数据中的至少一个。

本发明的较佳实施方式
典型的数字电视广播环境(计划在过渡(transition)阶段期间发射数字和模拟两种节目)可包括图1所示元件的某种组合。经由诸如卫星或地面数字传输线等通信媒体12把网络节目或其它非本地节目从广播台提供给本地电视台10。还把本地节目从高清晰度电视(HDTV)摄像机14(可利用各种形式)、标准清晰度数字电视摄像机16(可利用各种分辨率和高宽比)以及包括模拟电视摄像机18(例如与上一代NTSC广播标准兼容的那些)和在历史上利用公知的电视电影22转换成NTSC标准的电影胶片源20的模拟源的一些混合提供给本地电视台10。

类似地，现场单元94和/或本地单元88可分析检测器68检取的音频部分的表象，来确定来自模拟电视机70的音频部分是否包含电视节目识别码，现场单元96和/或本地单元88可分析检测器78检取的音频部分的表象，来确定来自个人计算机80的音频部分是否包含电视节目识别码。或者，远地数据收集中央局90可分析检测器68和78检取的音频部分的表象，来确定来自模拟电视机70和个人计算机80的音频部分是否包含电视节目识别码。
此外，可设置个人识别器98来识别观看数字电视机66上的电视节目的个人。个人识别器98可以是电视摄像机、IR摄像机等。当在以统计方式选中的监测点62中可获得这些设备时，现场单元86可利用公知的头定位(head location)和表面识别(face recognition)软件(例如，如Lu在4,858,000号美国专利中所述)来识别收看的个人及收集其它人口统计数据。类似地，可设置个人识别器来识别观看在模拟电视机70上和在个人计算机80上的电视节目的个人。
与分析检测器64、68和78检取的音频部分的表象来确定来自相应数字电视机66、模拟电视机70和个人计算机80的音频部分是否包含电视节目识别码不同，可从这些表象中提取特征标记，以便随后在以统计方式选中的监测点62或在中央局90中与先前收集的基准标记进行比较，从而识别数字电视机66、模拟电视机70和个人计算机80调谐到的电视节目。
可使用此代码或标记技术来识别由盒式录像机(VCR)在数字电视机66、模拟电视机70和个人计算机80上播放的节目。因而，如果所播放的节目带有节目识别码(它们是通过时间推移观看情况下的记录和重放过程保存的，或者记录在存储在待出租或销售的像带上的节目中)，则可在播放节目时检测节目识别码，从而可测得节目的观众。然而，如果被播放的节目是未编码节目，或者节目识别码丢失(例如，在记录过程中)，则这里所述的本发明的实施例可在播放像带时，通过从这些节目中提取特征标记并使所提取的标记与存储在基准标记数据库中的基准标记匹配来确定所观看的节目。在此情况下，利用公知的散列技术来优化搜索。
虽然本发明可使用代码技术或标记技术中的任一种来测量在数字电视设备上播放的节目的观众，但本发明可使用这两种技术，从而在一个技术不能识别观众选中的电视节目的情况下支援另一个技术。例如，只有在不能检测到识别码时才提取和匹配标记来识别观众选中的电视节目。作为进一步的选择，本发明可同时使用这两种技术。还可结合本发明收集人口统计数据。
注意，虽然第一实施例60测量了整个观众中的大部分，但没有安排它测量期望成为数字广播环境的一部分的相互作用特征(例如，共同发射的广告细节)。因此，以下实施例的一个重要特征是，它测量相互作用特征。
相应地，如图3所示，提供了本发明的第二实施例100。第二实施例100与以统计方式选中的监测点102相结合来测量数字电视节目的调谐。从以下讨论很明显的是，第二实施例100可包括第一实施例60的一些或所有特征，以及以下结合第二实施例100所描述的新特征。
依据此第二实施例100，从数字电视接收设备中收集调谐数据及可能的人口统计数据，该数字电视接收设备包括处理设备，处理设备最好具有足够使用的非易失性或电池支持的存储器从而可在其上存储算法(以下叫做软件代理)。第二实施例100的数字电视接收设备可包括(i)个人计算机104，它可类似于图1的个人计算机40，(ii)数字转换器106，它可类似于图1的数字转换器36，(iii)响应于数字转换器106而操作的模拟电视机108，以及(v)数字电视机110。
如以下更详细的说明所述，第二实施例100的一个或多个软件代理监测操作任务，以产生包含调谐和/或其它与软件代理所驻留设备的特定部件的操作有关的标明时间的记录。这些被监测的操作任务可以是，例如把消息从被用户操作的远地或其它控制传送到一调谐器或其它节目选择器从而选择在一频道中广播的电视节目、把消息从处理设备的控制器传送到一调谐器从而选择在一频道中广播的电视节目等。虽然希望软件代理能有效地窃听经过其主机的数据端口的数据话务，使用软件代理不能完全地处理观测点处的调谐，除非在位于这些地点处的电视设备的每个项目中有各自的软件代理，从而可获取一组完整的操作任务。
相应地，把软件代理112包含在数字转换器106中。软件代理112监测操作任务，以产生包含调谐和/或其它与软件代理112所驻留的数字转换器106的操作有关的标明时间的记录。因而，软件代理112监测例如有关在选中频道中广播的电视节目的选择的消息。从该检测到的消息中，可确定选中电视节目的身份。软件代理112还用于窃听经过其主机的输入/输出数据端口114的数据通话，并经由输入/输出数据端口114进行通信。相应地，可通过使用软件代理112来检测模拟电视机108调谐到的节目。利用输入/输出数据端口114，可经由通信媒体116把软件代理112下载到数字转换器106。或者，软件代理112可以是插入式的，并可驻留软盘上等。
类似地，把软件代理118包含在数字电视机110中。软件代理118监测有关数字电视机110的操作任务来产生包含调谐和/或其它与软件代理118所驻留的数字电视机110的操作有关的标明时间的记录。还安排软件代理118使其与其主机的输入/输出数据端口120协作。把软件代理122包含在个人计算机104中。软件代理122监测有关个人计算机104的操作任务来产生包含调谐和/或其它与软件代理122所驻留的个人计算机104的操作有关的标明时间的记录。软件代理122还用于与其主机的输入/输出数据端口124协作。
此外，可设置个人识别器126来识别观看个人计算机104上的电视节目的个人。如在个人识别器98的情况下，个人识别器126可以是电视摄像机、IR摄像机等，它可设有图4所示的任何或所有观看设备。
软件代理112、118和122可以是电信使能的，从而可经由因特网、公共电话系统等把来自以统计方式选中的监测点102中的所有观测点的电视观众数据传送到本地或远地的中间数据收集器128，然后通过通信信道170传送到远地中央局130。中间数据收集器128可灵活地位于同一个统计方式选中监测点102，或位于远地点166处，或位于中央局130处。为此，输入/输出数据端口114、120和124可以是串行端口、并行端口、通用串行总线(USB)、火线(依据IEEE 1394)等。可将数据传送构成，例如，背景任务并采取数据分组序列的形式，每个数据分组在用户的在线通话暂停期间或在任何其它时间被作为电子邮件(e-mail)发出或传送到远地中间数据收集器128。中间数据收集器128可以是，例如，计算机化的数据收集器或因特网业务提供者。或者，中间数据收集器128可以是本地单元，在此情况下，中间数据收集器128可位于以统计方式选中的监测点102中，它本身可用于通过e-mail或其它通信把调谐和人口统计数据传送到中央局130。
软件代理122还可监测个人计算机104的相互作用应用，诸如个人计算104所支持的因特网使用(例如，通过记录全球资源定位器，URL)、应用程序软件使用、及观看电视等。类似地，就网络使能的数字转换器106和数字电视机110的范围而言，软件代理114和118可监测诸如因特网使用(例如，通过记录URL)和应用程序软件使用及观看电视等相互作用应用。
由于进行电视观众调查的调查公司所碰到的所有设备并非(至少在数字电视广播时代的早期)都与以上所讨论的软件代理方法兼容，所以本发明的测量系统的第二实施例100可配置成包括在第一实施例60中找到的许多或所有特征。
如上所述，第一实施例60通过检测嵌入节目的节目识别码和/或通过提取所观看的节目的标记并把所提取的标记与基准标记相比较，检测接收机调谐到的节目，这样来测量整个观众中的大部分。此外，第二实施例100不仅测量整个观众，还测量节目所提供的相互作用特征。以下所述的实施例尤其用于在一公共数字发射频道(例如，6MHZ)中存在多个电视节目时，尤其是在一数字电视机没有软件代理可驻留的可访问操作系统时，有效地测量数字电视观看数据。第一实施例60还可用于电视机上没有I/O接口从而不容易从电视机读取数据的情况。
图4示出本发明的第三实施例200，其中在模拟和数字广播都发生时的过渡阶段期间，以统计方式选中的监测点202包括例如第一观测点204、第二观测点206和第三观测点208。第一观测点204包括连接到模拟电视机212的数字转换器210。由检测器214来检测模拟电视机212调谐到的节目的音频部分。检测器214可通过非侵入地检测模拟电视机212的扬声器216所提供的声音或通过非侵入地检测来自直接连接至模拟电视机212的音频信号来检测此音频部分。
设置了检测数字转换器210的中频信号的探头218。信号处理器220把检测到的中频信号解调为包含在检测到的中频信号中的基带位流，然后对此基带位流进行解多路复用来恢复基带位流的音频部分。
可以安排比较器222使之首先确定检测器214检测到的音频中是否存在节目识别码。如果在检测器214检测到的音频中存在节目识别码，则此节目识别码识别模拟电视机212调谐到的节目，因此记录该识别码。如果检测器214检测到的音频中没有节目识别码，则比较器222扫描信号处理器220所提供的基带位流的音频部分，来检测包含在探头218检测到的中频信号中的在第一节目中的音频。比较器222把此音频与来自检测器214的音频数据相比较。如果匹配，则从信号处理器220所提供的信息中知道数字转换器210调谐到的节目。如果不匹配，则比较器222扫描信号处理器220所提供的基带位流的音频部分，来检测包含在探头218检测到的中频信号中的在第二节目中的音频，依此类推，直到比较器222检测到匹配。一旦找到匹配，则知道了匹配频道的主(major)频道号和次(minor)频道号，可从相应的数据分组中读取相应的辅助节目识别码。
第二观测点206包括数字电视机224。由检测器226来检测数字电视机224调谐到的节目的音频部分。检测器226可通过非侵入地检测数字电视机224的扬声器228所提供的声音或通过非侵入地检测来自直接连接至数字电视机224的音频信号来检测此音频部分。
设置了检测数字电视机224的中频信号的探头230。信号处理器232类似于信号处理器220而操作，从而提供探头230检测到的中频信号中的基带位流的音频部分。比较器234类似于比较器222而操作，从而首先确定检测器226检测到的音频中是否存在节目识别码，如果不存在，则扫描信号处理器232所提供的基带位流的音频部分，直到找到匹配。
第三观测点208包括个人计算机236。由检测器238来检测数字电视机236调谐到的节目的音频部分。检测器238可通过非侵入地检测个人计算机236的扬声器240所提供的声音或通过非侵入地检测来自直接连接至个人计算机236的音频信号来检测此音频部分。
设置了检测个人计算机236的中频信号的探头242。信号处理器244类似于信号处理器220而操作，从而提供探头242检测到的中频信号中的基带位流的音频部分。比较器246类似于比较器222而操作，从而首先确定检测器238检测到的音频中是否存在节目识别码，如果不存在，则扫描信号处理器244所提供的基带位流的音频部分，直到找到匹配。
比较器222、234和246把它们的来自音频或来自数据分组的节目识别码和/或匹配信息提供给以统计方式选中的监测点202中的本地单元248，本地单元248可具有数据存储和转发单元的能力。把远地数据收集中央局250示意地描述为基于计算机的数据收集中央局，该中央局经由诸如公共电话交换网、因特网等通信网络252与本地单元248互换数据。此外，可设置个人识别器254来识别观看数字电视机224上的电视节目的个人。如同个人识别器98的情况，个人识别器254可以是电视摄像机、IR摄像机等，并可设有图4中所示的任何或所有观看设备。
或者，探头218、230和242除了使用中频探头以外，还可使用本机振荡器探头。可利用本机振荡器来最初识别其相关的电视接收器调谐到的频道，这样在测量中提供了明显的速度优势。即，由于频道检测设备的操作通常比音频信号比较设备快得多，所以可以分层方式来实行节目确定过程，其中，首先由信号处理器220、232和224从本机振荡器信号中确定广播频道(假设未首先检测到节目识别码)。然后，比较器222、234和246依次调谐到在检测到的广播频道中共同发射的节目，并把调谐到的节目的音频部分与来自检测器214、226和238的音频数据相比较，从而来识别广播频道中的节目。这样，比较器222、234和236不需要依次调谐到所有可获得频道中的所有节目来确定调谐到的节目。
图5所示本发明的第四实施例300所提供的另一个选择。在具有第一观测点304、第二观测点306和第三观测点308的以统计方式选中的监测点302中使用第四实施例300。第一观测点304包括连接到模拟电视机312的数字转换器310。由检测器314来检测模拟电视机312调谐到的节目的音频部分。检测器314可通过非侵入地检测模拟电视机312的扬声器316所提供的声音或通过非侵入地检测来自直接连接至模拟电视机312的音频处理部分的音频信号来检测此音频部分。
设置了扫描接收器318，以依次调谐到数字转换器310可调谐到的每个广播频道中携带的每个节目并把每个节目的音频部分提供给比较器320。比较器320可配置成首先确定检测器314检测到的音频中是否存在节目识别码。如果在检测器314检测到的音频中存在节目识别码，则记录此节目识别码，因为它识别了模拟电视机312调谐到的节目。如果检测器314检测到的音频中没有节目识别码，则比较器320把扫描接收机318所提供的在第一节目中的音频部分与来自检测器314的音频数据相比较。如果匹配，则从扫描接收机318所提供的信息中知道数字转换器310调谐到的节目。一旦找到匹配，则知道了匹配频道的主频道号和次频道号，可从相应的数据分组中读取相应的辅助节目识别码。
如果不匹配，则比较器320把扫描接收机318所提供的在第二节目中的音频部分与来自检测器314的音频数据相比较，依此类推，直到比较器320检测到匹配。可使用人口统计输入322把人口统计数据提供给比较器320，比较器320把此人口统计数据及时间与数字转换器310调谐到的节目耦合作为调谐记录。例如，人口统计输入322可以是，例如，公知的人数计，通过它人们现在可以在观看电视机上所显示的节目时手工地识别他们自己。
第二观测点306包括数字电视机324。由检测器326来检测数字电视机324调谐到的节目的音频部分。检测器326可通过非侵入地检测数字电视机324的扬声器328所提供的声音或通过非侵入地检测来自直接连接至数字电视机324的音频信号来检测此音频部分。
设置了扫描接收器330，以依次调谐到数字电视机324可调谐到的每个广播频道中携带的每个节目并把每个节目的音频部分提供给比较器332。比较器332可配置成首先确定检测器326检测到的音频中是否存在节目识别码。如果在检测器326检测到的音频中存在节目识别码，则记录此节目识别码，因为它识别了数字电视机324调谐到的节目。如果检测器326检测到的音频中没有节目识别码，则比较器332把扫描接收机330所提供的在第一节目中的音频部分与来自检测器326的音频数据相比较。如果匹配，则从扫描接收机330所提供的信息中知道数字电视机324调谐到的节目。如果不匹配，则比较器332把扫描接收机330所提供的在第二节目中的音频部分与来自检测器326的音频数据相比较，依此类推，直到比较器332检测到匹配。
此外，可设置个人识别器334来识别观看数字电视机224上的电视节目的个人。如同个人识别器98的情况，个人识别器254可以是电视摄像机、IR摄像机等，并可设有图4所示的任何或所有的观看设备。比较器332把观看数字电视机324的个人的身份及时间与数字电视机324调谐到的节目耦合作为调谐记录。
第三观测点308包括个人计算机336。由检测器338来检测个人计算机336调谐到的节目的音频部分。检测器338可通过非侵入地检测个人计算机336的扬声器240所提供的声音或通过非侵入地检测来自直接连接至个人计算机336的音频信号来检测此音频部分。
设置了扫描接收器342，以依次调谐到个人计算机336可调谐到的每个广播频道中携带的每个节目并把每个节目的音频部分提供给比较器344。比较器344可配置成首先确定检测器338检测到的音频中是否存在节目识别码。如果在检测器338检测到的音频中存在节目识别码，则记录此节目识别码，因为它识别了个人计算机336调谐到的节目。如果检测器338检测到的音频中没有节目识别码，则比较器344把扫描接收机342所提供的在第一节目中的音频部分与来自检测器338的音频数据相比较。如果匹配，则从匹配所指示的主频道号和次频道号中知道个人计算机336调谐到的节目。如果不匹配，则比较器344把扫描接收机342所提供的在第二节目中的音频部分与来自检测器338的音频数据相比较，依此类推，直到比较器344检测到匹配。比较器344把时间与个人计算机336调谐到的节目耦合作为调谐记录。
比较器222、234和246把其调谐记录提供给以统计方式选中的监测点302中的本地单元346，本地单元346可具有数据存储和转发单元的能力。把远地数据收集中央局348示意地描述为基于计算机的数据收集中央局，该中央局经由诸如公共电话交换网、因特网等通信网络350与本地单元346互换数据。
类似地，许多(如果不是全部)数字电视机、数字转换器和类似的数字设备将具有数据端口，这些数据端口提供输出观众选中的节目信息以在连接到这些数据端口的消费装置中使用。与数字电视相结合，数据端口类似地提供，例如，全主频道ATSC位流和在虚拟频道上的信息，这些信息可包括模拟或数字主频道选择、节目(次频道)选择、物理源(TV、VCR、DVD等)、标识等。与数字转换器相结合(即，机顶盒)，数据端口类似地提供，例如，全ATSC位流和在虚似频道上的信息，这些信息可包括模拟或数字主频道选择、节目(次频道)选择、重新插到纠正线上的垂直消隐间隔数据及模拟信号的字段等。
相应地，如图6所示提供了本发明的第五实施例400。第五实施例400与以统计方式选中的监测点402相结合测量至数字电视节目的调谐。第五实施例400可包括先前所述实施例的一些或所有特征。
第五实施例400允许从数字电视接收设备中收集调谐数据及可能的人口统计数据，这些设备包括(i)个人计算机404、(ii)数字转换器406、(iii)响应于数字转换器406而操作的模拟电视机408，以及(v)数字电视机410。
数字转换器406具有数据端口412。现场单元414读取并存储全ATSC位流、模拟或数字主频道选择、节目选择、垂直消隐间隔数据和/或可在数据端口412上获得的类似数据，从而确定选中在模拟电视机408上观看的节目及任何其它所需的和可获得的信息。此外，可将现场单元414配置成收集相应于选中在模拟电视机408上观看的节目的观众中的观看者的人口统计数据。例如，现场单元414可收集来自如上所述的个人识别器、人数计等的人口统计数据。可经由通信媒体416上载所有这些数据，通信媒体可以是导线、电源线和IR链路、RF调制解调器等。
类似地，数字电视机410具有数据端口418。现场单元420读取并存储全主频道ATSC位流、主频道选择、节目选择、物理源标识及可在数据端口418上获得的类似数据，从而确定选中在数字电视机410上观看的节目及任何其它所需的和可获得的信息。此外，可将现场单元420配置成收集相应于选中在数字电视机410上观看的节目的观众中的观看者的人口统计数据。例如，现场单元420可收集来自如上所述的个人识别器、人数计等的人口统计数据。可经由通信媒体421上载所有这些数据。
此外，个人计算机404具有数据端口422。现场单元424读取并存储全主频道ATSC位流、主频道选择、节目选择及可在数据端口422上获得的类似数据，从而确定选中在个人计算机404上观看的节目及任何其它所需的和可获得的信息。此外，可设置个人识别器426来识别观看个人计算机404上的电视节目的个人。如同在个人识别器98的情况中，个人识别器426可以是电视摄像机、IR摄像机等，并可设有图6所示的任何或所有观看设备。可经由通信媒体427上载所有的节目和人口统计数据。
现场单元414、420和424可以是电信使能的，从而可经由因特网、公共电话系统等把来自以统计方式选中的监测点402中的所有观测点的电视观众数据传送到本地或远地的中间数据收集器428，然后通过通信信道470传送到远地中央局430。中间数据收集器428可灵活地位于同一个统计方式选中的监测点402，或位于远地点466处，或位于中央局430处。为此，现场单元414、420和424可以是串行端口、并行端口、通用串行总线(USB)、火线(依据IEEE 1394)等。中间数据收集器428可以是，例如，计算机化的数据收集器或因特网业务提供者。或者，中间数据收集器428可以是本地单元，在此情况下，中间数据收集器428可位于以统计方式选中的监测点402中，它本身可用于通过e-mail或其它通信把调谐和人口统计数据传送到中央局430。
软件代理500如图7所示。软件代理500可用于软件代理112、118和122中的任一个。如软件代理500的块502所示，软件代理500拷贝当前操作任务。如果当前操作任务使用在块504处确定的电视节目的一个分组，则软件代理500在块506处确定该数据分组是否具有包含可解码的节目识别码、名称或其他标志的可解码分组标注。希望此节目识别数据分组成为数字电视节目的一个特征，尤其是在数字广播环境下一广播频道中同时组合了多个节目作为次频道时，并期望识别由被监测的电视所调谐的节目。
如果该数据分组没有可解码的分组标注，则软件代理500在块508处引起待记录的被监测观看设备的导通(ON)状态，假设此ON状态是被监测观看设备的一个新状态且被监测的观看设备为ON。依靠测量系统(例如，由如上所述的其它实施例60、200和300中的任一个所使用的音频信号方法)的平衡来识别调谐。然后，程序流程返回块502以等待下一个操作任务。
另一方面，如果该数据分组有可解码的分组标注，则软件代理500在块510处确定来自当前操作任务的数据分组的分组标注是否与软件代理500先前所确定的分组标注相同。如果是这样，则不需要存储该分组标注，除非它只表示继续观看已识别的电视节目。相应地，程序流程返回块502以等待下一个操作任务。然而，如果利用当前操作系统任务的数据分组的分组标注与先前在块506处确定的分组标注不同，则软件代理500在块512处记录包含在节目标注中的电视节目的标识，而且还记录时间。然后，程序流程返回块502以等待下一个操作任务。
如果当前操作任务不使用在块504处确定的电视节目的分组，则软件代理500在块514处确定当前操作任务是否是对其它被监测设备的命令(例如，让数字电视接收机110调谐不同频道并选择该频道中广播的N个节目中的一个特定节目的命令)。如果当前操作任务是对其它被监测设备的命令，则软件代理500在块516处把可获得的所有细节(例如，命令本身、命令发出者的身份及命令接收者的身份)记录到存储器中，程序流程返回块502。
如果当前操作任务不是对其它被监测设备的命令，则软件代理500在块518处确定观众是否已选中共同发射的数据(即，与在一频道中广播的电视节目之一相应且在与该节目相同的时间间隔中发射的数据)。共同发射的数据可包括对其它可获得的电视节目的指南、与在共同发射的节目上作广告的产品有关的细节等。将如此地构成共同发射数据所提出的这些用途中的一些，从而人们可推断将从URL中观看什么节目或在逻辑上把共同发射的数据链接到该电视节目的其它标注。相应地，软件代理500在块520处搜索对于URL或其它标注的任务的标头(header)部分，并记录找到的这种URL或其它标注。其后，程序流程返回块502。
如果观众还未选中共同发射的数据，则软件代理500在块522处确定该设备的用户是否已指令他或她的浏览器或其它通信软件访问因特网网页(假设如此构成被监测的被监测观看设备，从而它已访问因特网或其它在线业务)。如果该设备的用户已指令他或她的浏览器或其它通信软件访问因特网网页，软件代理500在块524处搜索URL或其它标注，并记录找到的这种URL或其它标注。其后，程序流程返回块502。如果该设备的用户还未指令他或她的浏览器或其它通信软件访问因特网网页，则程序流程返回块502。
作为使用如上所述的软件代理的一个例子，考虑位于以统计方式选中的监测点中的某人观看数字电视节目并看到对有趣产品作的广告。希望此人有能力利用简单的鼠标单击操作来请求有关该产品的更多数据。例如，该数据将成为提供所显示广告的数据的子集，或者该数据随后将在此人已选中观看的电视节目的信号中共同发射。然后，该数据将被显示在用于观看电视的多窗口显示器上的另一个窗口中。然后，可通过单击初始显示的数据的超文本链接元件来获得一组附加的数据。此动作将导致经由因特网下载所需的附加数据。因而，安装在此观看设备中的软件代理不仅可记录所观看的节目，而且还可在消费者使用节目中的广告时提供附加的市场调查数据。
除了提供监测调谐行动的装置以外，还可使用本发明的软件代理来收集相应于被监测观看的人口统计数据。在收集人口统计数据的手动方法中，软件代理可在需要观众或用户输入适当的人口统计数据的观看设备的一个窗口中产生状态和提示显示。此状态和提示显示窗口可具有类似于在现代观众测量中广泛使用的人数计硬件所提供的外观，并为以统计方式选中的监测点的每个占据者显示状态提示光。然而，在具有相当窗口的显示配置中，可与状态指示一起示出每个占据者的名称。
如果软件代理被可接收数字电视节目的个人计算机所使用，则可使用各种更接近自动且侵入更少的方法(从电视观众的观点来看)来收集个人数据并更新平铺状态显示。例如，众所周知通过数据录入的特征速率和数据录入之间的暂停来识别计算机的手动输入装置(诸如键盘或鼠标器)的各个用户。在被监测的占据者人口非常小的电视观众测量中，这种测量应有希望是高度准确的。此外，不断有许多个人计算机具有与其相连的电视摄像机，从而计算机的用户可通过电话参与电视会议。当可在以统计方式选中的监测点中获得这些设备时，可利用包括公知的头定位和标明识别软件(例如，Lu在4,858,000号美国专利中所述)的软件代理来识别个人和收集人口统计数据。
以上讨论了本发明的某些修正。本发明领域中的技术人员将想到其它修正。例如，如上所述的软件代理112、118和122监测操作任务。操作任务可以是该软件代理所驻留的设备所使用的操作系统的操作系统事件。事实上，只要收集所需的数据，软件代理112、118和122就可监测被监测设备的任何功能。
此外，如上所述，依据本发明每个实施例的以统计方式选中的监测点包括某些观看设备及某些监测设备。然而，应理解，依据本发明的以统计方式选中的监测点可包括上述实施例中结合的设备的任何组合及其它和/或不同的设备。
此外，上述软件代理500可以是通用的从而可被与它兼容的设备的任何部件所使用，或者它可专用于使用它的每个特定设备。此外，软件代理500可配置成检测某观众所进行的所有窗口动作。
此外，虽然在图2-5中未示出，但这里所示实施例的数字电视接收设备还可包括诸如VCR、数字影碟机、电子游戏或其它娱乐系统等辅助数字电视设备。
此外，如上所述，检测节目识别码来识别电视节目。然而，电视节目可以通过诸如节目名称等标志来识别。此外，因特网网页可通过其地址、或通过识别码或名称或标注、或者在因特网上的广告的情况下通过其标题来识别。因此，这里一般把可从中识别电视节目或与电视节目相关的内容的标志叫做识别数据。
此外，在这里可把本地单元248和/或346叫做中间数据收集器。
相应地，认为本发明的描述只是示意性的，是为了把实施本发明的最好方式讲授给本领域内的技术人员。可改变这些细节而不背离本发明的精神，保留对附加权利要求书范围内的所有修正的专有的使用。

Claims (48)

1.一种与数字电视和无线电使用有关的观众测定系统，所述数字电视和无线电是通过多个频道的广播，并且所述系统包括：
读取装置，用于从数字数据流读取数据的；
时间标记装置，用于提供与所述读取装置所读取的数据相关的时间标记；
测量装置，确定对应于由读取装置所读取的数据和对应于所相关时间标记中至少一个的观众测定测量值，
其中，所述读取装置配置为从接收机调谐的第一频道中读取第一识别数据，所述时间标记装置配置成在读取第一识别数据时提供与它相关的第一时间标记，其中所述读取装置配置成接着从接收机调谐的第二频道读取第二识别数据，所述时间标记装置配置成在读取第二识别数据时提供与它相关的第二时间标记，所述观众测定系统的特征在于：
从相应于第一频道的多路复用数字流中读取第一识别数据；
从相应于第二频道的多路复用数字流中读取第二识别数据；以及
所述测量装置配置成确定至少一个观众测定测量值，该值对应于第一识别数据和第二识别数据中的至少一个。
2.如权利要求1所述的观众测定系统，其特征在于第一和第二识别数据是辅助代码。
3.如权利要求1所述的观众测定系统，其特征在于第一和第二识别数据是分组代码。
4.如权利要求1所述的观众测定系统，其特征在于记录关掉接收机的时间。
5.如权利要求1所述的观众测定系统，其特征在于：
由接收机和计量器分别接收多路复用数字流；以及
在频道改变时，计量器把接收机调谐到的频道的数字流与多路复用的数字流中每个频道的数字流相比较，直到计量器找到匹配，在此时计量器从匹配的数字流之一读取识别数据。
6.如权利要求5所述的观众测定系统，其特征在于：
可在不同的频率处接收到多个多路复用的数字发射；
计量器记录第一接收到的频率及其接收时间；以及
当频率改变时，计量器记录第二接收到的频率及其接收时间。
7.如权利要求5所述的观众测定系统，其特征在于把第一和第二识别数据存储在计量器的存储器中。
8.如权利要求5所述的观众测定系统，其特征在于把第一和第二识别数据传输到计算机。
9.如权利要求1所述的观众测定系统，其特征在于，对应于第一频道的多路复用数字流和对应于第二频道的多路复用数字流中的每个都包括包含在数字电视节目中的数据分组，并且其中，从所包括的数据分组中读取第一和第二识别数据。
10.如权利要求1所述的观众测定系统，其特征在于通过软件代理来读取第一和第二识别数据，第一和第二识别数据识别相应的电视节目，把软件代理存储在计算机可读存储器中。
11.如权利要求10所述的观众测定系统，其特征在于由软件代理从包含在数字电视节目中的数据分组中读取第一和第二识别数据。
12.如权利要求10所述的观众测定系统，其特征在于把软件代理存储在向模拟接收机提供模拟电视信号的机顶盒的计算机可读存储器中。
13.如权利要求10所述的观众测定系统，其特征在于接收机是数字电视设备。
14.如权利要求13所述的观众测定系统，其特征在于接收机是数字电视，把软件代理存储在向数字电视提供数字电视信号的机顶盒的计算机可读存储器中。
15.如权利要求10所述的观众测定系统，其特征在于接收机是设有电视接收机的个人计算机。
16.如权利要求10所述的观众测定系统，其特征在于接收机是VCR。
17.如权利要求10所述的观众测定系统，其特征在于接收机是数字影碟播放装置。
18.如权利要求10所述的观众测定系统，其特征在于还包括个人识别设备，其中所述个人识别设备配置为对有助于识别观看电视节目的人的数据进行收集，并将所提取的数据发送给软件代理。
19.如权利要求10所述的观众测定系统，其特征在于第一和第二识别数据是相应的第一和第二电视节目的相应第一和第二节目识别码。
20.如权利要求10所述的观众测定系统，其特征在于第一和第二识别数据是相应的第一和第二电视节目的相应第一和第二节目名称。
21.如权利要求10所述的观众测定系统，其特征在于第一和第二识别数据是相应的第一和第二因特网网页的相应第一和第二地址。
22.如权利要求10所述的观众测定系统，其特征在于第一和第二识别数据是相应的第一和第二因特网网页的相应第一和第二识别码。
23.如权利要求10所述的观众测定系统，其特征在于第一和第二识别数据是观众所观看的资料的相应第一和第二标题。

33.如权利要求32所述的观众测定系统，其特征在于中间数据收集器包括存储和转发装置，存储和转发装置配置成经由电话线把第一和第二识别数据发送到中央局。

35.如权利要求32所述的观众测定系统，其特征在于中间数据收集器是位于中央局中的数据收集设备。
36.如权利要求10所述的观众测定系统，其特征在于计算机可读存储器与接收机相关，软件代理是下载到计算机可读存储器的软件代理。
37.如权利要求10所述的观众测定系统，其特征在于软件代理是接收机的插入式软件代理。
38.如权利要求10所述的观众测定系统，其特征在于软件代理是接收机的软盘软件代理。
39.如权利要求10所述的观众测定系统，其特征在于还包括：
检测器，配置成检测嵌入电视节目中的音频代码来识别电视节目；
提取器，配置成从电视节目中提取音频标记来识别电视节目；以及
选择器，配置成选择检测器、提取器和软件代理中的至少一个来识别电视节目。
40.如权利要求39所述的观众测定系统，其特征在于还包括配置成检索来自接收机的观众测量数据分组来识别电视节目的分组检索器，其中选择器选择分组检索器、检测器、提取器和软件代理中的至少一个来识别电视节目。
41.如权利要求10所述的观众测定系统，其特征在于软件代理配置成记录与接收电视节目的数字电视的因特网任务相关的第一和第二识别数据及因特网识别数据。
42.如权利要求1所述的观众测定系统，其特征在于从在观众选中广播频道中广播并由数字电视节目接收设备接收到的多个时间上重叠的电视节目中识别观众选中的电视节目，其中该数字电视节目接收设备具有数据端口，观众测定系统包括连接到数据端口的数据读取器，所述数据读取器配置成从数据端口上所提供的数据中读取第一和第二识别数据。
43.如权利要求42所述的观众测定系统，其特征在于数字电视节目接收设备是数字转换器。
44.如权利要求42所述的观众测定系统，其特征在于数字电视节目接收设备是个人计算机。
45.如权利要求42所述的观众测定系统，其特征在于数字电视节目接收设备是数字电视机。
46.如权利要求1所述的观众测定系统，其特征在于第一和第二频道是主频道。
47.如权利要求1所述的观众测定系统，其特征在于第一和第二频道是次频道。
48.如权利要求1所述的观众测定系统，其特征在于第一和第二频道之一是主频道，第一和第二频道中的另一个是次频道。
