Abstract

技术领域
本发明涉及植入式电子系统,并且具体地涉及这些装置的供电系统。
背景技术
非常常见的有源的植入式系统可能看起来如图1中所描绘的一样。该常见的有源的植入式系统由两个植入的子系统组成:供应系统101和单芯片处理系统102。供应系统101可以包括输入触头103和104,以及输出触头107和108。输入触头典型地经由感应线圈105(具有相关的电感L2)彼此连接。植入的线圈105可以感应地耦合到另外的外部线圈106(具有其自身的电感L1),外部线圈106位于体外。两个线圈形成弱耦合变压器,其中外部线圈106作为初级线圈,植入的线圈105作为次级线圈。这允许经由无破损的皮肤表面传输电能(经皮能量传输)。供应系统101在供电输出触头107和108处将射频(rf)信号u2(t)转换为适当的内部信号uP(t)。供电输出触头107和108通过隔离的布线111和112连接到处理系统输入触头109和110。信号uP(t)可以为处理系统102提供有能量和信息。忽略布线111和112的电阻抗,信号uP(t)还出现在处理系统输入触头109和110之间。
处理系统102典型地进行特定的测量和/或有源刺激任务,例如生物电信号的测量、化学物质的感应和/或将电信号施加到周围组织。利用一组电极113感测和/或施加信号。处理系统102的一个特殊的属性在于,由于限制性很强的空间要求,导致整个功能可能被集成在单个电子芯片上。与利用气密密封的封装来保护电路避免接触体液的供应系统101相反,处理系统102典型地只通过各种薄的钝化层(例如氧化物)来保护。另外,可能没有用于额外的电子部件诸如外部二极管或者分布电容器的空间。
如图1中所示的系统的一个特定示例可以是如在Margalit E,Maia M,Weiland JD,Greenberg RJ,Fujii GY,Torres G,Piyathaisere DV,O’Hearn TM,Liu W,Lazzi G,Dagnelie G,Scribner DA,de Juan E和Humayun MS,Retinal Prosthesis For The Blind,Survey of Ophthalmology,第47卷,No.4,2002年7月-8月(通过引用并入这里)中描述的人工视网膜。在该系统中,处理系统芯片位于内层视网膜的表面上(视网膜前进路(epiretinal approach))或者在视网膜下腔中(视网膜下进路(subretinal approach))。典型地,处理芯片的尺寸是几个平方毫米,并且厚度是微米的几十分之一。为了保护,处理芯片由若干光透材料层覆盖。该处理芯片可以包括子单元阵列,其中每个子单元包括光电二极管、模拟放大器和刺激电极。这些子单元可以被设计为把来自图像的光能(光子)转换为电脉冲以刺激视网膜的剩余的功能性细胞。
不幸的是,没有实现早期的对于这样的植入的数据处理芯片能够仅由入射光供电而不使用外部电源的希望。因此视网膜处理芯片必须连接到提供能量和控制信号的供应系统。例如,供应系统可以植入在耳后的区域中,类似于例如在Waltzman SB和Cohen NL,Cochlear Implants,ISBN 0-86577-882-5,Thieme New York,2000(通过引用并入这里)中描述的人工耳蜗。这样的供应系统可以包括能够使用经皮感应链路再充电(如果需要)的如例如在Zierhofer CM和Hochmair ES,High-Efficiency Coupling-Insensitive Power And DataTransmission Via An Inductive Link,IEEE-Trans.Biomed.Eng.BME-37,pp.716-723,1990年7月(通过引用并入这里)中所描述的可再充电电池。因此,获得了如图1中所示的系统配置。
发明内容
本发明的代表性实施例包括一种植入式电子系统。植入式电源包括:多个能量输入端口,用于接收外部产生的电源信号;以及多个能量输出端口,用于产生(develop)检测到的能量信号。植入式人工处理模块包括:多个通过布线连接到能量输出端口的人工(prosthetic)处理输入端口,用于接收检测到的能量信号;以及多个人工处理输出端口,用于产生人工刺激信号输出来电刺激目标神经组织。多个端口中的每个适于在不产生dc电势的情况下操作。
在另外的实施例中,电源和/或人工处理模块可以处于非气密的耐湿封装中。多个端口中的至少一个可以包括可断开的连接器以允许布线容易地附接到多个端口以及从多个端口拆开。
在各种实施例中,外部产生的电源信号是例如通过植入的接收线圈进行处理(develop)的射频信号。外部产生的电源信号可以包含能量和信息。
一些实施例可以进一步包括至少一对输出端口,用于产生接收到的能量信号,而无需在输出端口之间产生dc电势。处理模块可以接收所接收到的能量信号。处理模块可以位于气密密封的封装之中。处理模块可以被耦合到组织相互作用元件,例如刺激电极元件或者组织感应器元件。
实施例还包括植入式人工系统,包括根据任何前述的植入式电子系统。特定的系统可以是人工耳蜗系统或者人工视网膜系统。
另一实施例包括具有单个植入式非气密耐湿封装的植入式电子系统,包括电源和人工处理模块。电源包括能量输入端口,用于接收外部产生的电源信号。人工处理模块具有人工处理输出端口,用于产生电刺激目标神经组织的人工刺激信号输出。端口中的每个都适于在不产生dc电势的情况下操作。
在另外的这些实施例中,封装可以是单芯片封装。端口中的至少一个可以包括可断开的连接器,以允许布线容易地附接到端口或者从端口拆开。外部产生的电源信号可以是射频信号。外部产生的电源信号可以由植入的接收线圈接收处理(develop)并且/或者可以包含能量和信息。
实施例还包括植入式人工系统,包括根据以上实施例中的任何实施例的植入式电子系统。例如,该系统可以是人工耳蜗系统或者人工视网膜系统。

具体实施方式
本发明的实施例涉及植入式电子系统,该系统在其端口之间不产生dc电势。例如,该植入式电子系统可以是如图1中所示的带有无dc的输入和输出触头的供应系统和单芯片处理器。供应系统和/或单芯片处理器可以包括在非气密的耐湿封装中,其在被植入时是透气的,但是耐湿性受到潮湿生物有源植入环境的影响。在其它特定实施例中,耐湿封装可以被气密地密封。
图2示出具有无dc的输入和输出触头的植入式电源的实施例。供应输入触头201和202、供应输出触头203和204以及供应输入线圈205在耐湿封装200外。植入的供应输入线圈205(具有电感L2)和供应输入电容器206(具有电容C2)表示用来接收外部产生的射频(rf)能量信号u2(t)的并联调谐电路。假设供应输入线圈205是理想的,在输入触头201和202之间没有产生dc电势。信号u2(t)是全波整流的并且利用包括两个二极管和两个电容器(电容C0)的整流器电路207进行平滑。为了足够大的电容C0,得到的电压VCC和VSS是类dc电势。供应系统还包括时钟发生器209,其产生非重叠的时钟信号φ1(t)和φ2(t)。这些时钟信号φ1(t)和φ2(t)在转换矩阵208中控制开关。
如图3中所示,在当φ1(t)=VCC且φ2(t)=VSS的时段期间,电压VCC和VSS分别连接到供应输出触头203和204,从而uP(t)=VCC-VSS。反之,在φ1(t)=VSS且φ2(t)=VCC期间,则uP(t)=VSS-VCC。对于φ1(t)=VSS且φ2(t)=VCC来说,供应输出触头203和204是浮动的,即它们不具有被限定的电势。如果状态φ1(t)=VCC的平均持续时间等于状态φ2(t)=VCC的平均持续时间,那么供应输出触头203和204在彼此之间不具有dc电势。另外,尽管在整流器207中二极管电压下降,相对于供应输入触头201和202也没有dc电压。在电压uP(t)不具有浮动相并且状态φ1(t)=VCC和φ2(t)=VCC持续时间相等的情况下,产生用于芯片的信号处理级的几乎无毛刺的dc电源电压。在特定实施例中,产生的信号可以包含能量和信息。
在图4中示出单芯片植入式电子系统的示例。利用一个或多个钝化层就诸如体液的湿度对该单处理器芯片400进行保护。处理器芯片400包括集成的整流器403和实现信号处理和/或产生刺激脉冲的功能的后续处理级404。处理级404的正确操作依赖于具有一个特定极性的电源电压,诸如由集成的整流器403产生的电压。对于理想的整流器,如果输入信号被限定,那么该整流器输出信号在幅值上等于输入信号,即uR(t)=|uP(t)|。如果输入信号uP(t)由供应系统产生,诸如图2中所示的供应系统,那么然后在当uP(t)是非浮动的时段期间,uR(t)=VCC-VSS。
图5和图6中示出集成的整流器的示例。在图5中描绘的整流器表示教科书方法,其中MOS晶体管501、502、503和504被分别作为二极管进行开关,即栅极被连接到漏极。虽然该方法非常适合于集成,一个缺点在于分别发生跨MOS晶体管在源极和漏极之间的电压降,USD≈1-2V。因此输出电压被减小2USD,即uR(t)=|uP(t)|-2USD。对于低电压应用来说,该减小可能是重要考虑。
图6中所示的方法还利用MOS晶体管并且由此很适合于集成,但是其避免了在于2005年7月8日提交的美国临时专利申请60/697,624中描述的跨晶体管的大电压降,该美国临时专利申请通过引用并入这里。有两个PMOS晶体管601和603,以及两个NMOS晶体管602和604,其被作为导通/切断开关来操作。能够使用标准的CMOS技术。晶体管的栅极直接连接到输入电压干线。对于足够幅值的输入电压差来说,确保uR(t)≈|uP(t)|。四个晶体管应该足够大,从而在开关导通状态期间仅有小的电压降。如果电压降太大(典型地,大于大约0.7V),则寄生衬底PN二极管趋于变得导电。
图7示出用于在单芯片系统700内产生刺激的系统的示例。为了方便,仅示出一个刺激电极对708和709,而这些电极之间的阻抗由电阻元件负载电阻器710表示。目标是在输入触头701和702之间或者在刺激电极对708和709之间不产生dc电压电势。假设无dc的输入电压uP(t)由诸如图3中所示的恒压段组成,并且集成的整流器703诸如在图6中所示,如果uP(t)是非浮动的,那么整流后的电压是uR(t)≈VCC-VSS。能够例如,通过产生对称的双相脉冲,以电荷平衡式脉冲来实现刺激。对于第一相,在第一电流源704(例如PMOS晶体管)中施加电流幅值iP(t)并且第一开关706(例如NMOS晶体管)接通。对于第二相,在第二电流源705(例如NMOS晶体管)中施加电流幅值iN(t)并且第二开关707(例如PMOS晶体管)接通。随着这样的开关过程,在电极707和708处的平均电势分别是(VCC-VSS)/2。除了确保在708/709处的平均电势等于在701/702处的平均电势之外,即使例如通过某种非气密的有机材料提供的在701/702处的绝缘是不完美的。
在其它实施例中,电源和人工处理电路可以被集成在一个单芯片上,该芯片被某种非气密的材料封装。该芯片本身被氧化物或者氮化物层或者某些类似的材料保护以避免体液,仅暴露输入和输出焊盘,其必然地由某种耐腐蚀生物相容性金属,诸如铂、铱、金、铌、钛或者钽组成。因此整个系统由非气密封装的单芯片、一个或者多个经由某种rf载波接收能量和信息信号的接收器线圈、以及一组电极组成。
可以使用许多公知的整流电路。电容器C0(如在图2中所示的)是集成的芯片电容器,其在尺寸上受到某种程度的限制。为了获得足够平滑的dc供应,这要求足够高频的rf载波或者矩形形状的输入信号。在后一种情况中,感应经皮传输系统需要是足够的宽频带。
尽管已经公开了本发明的各种示例性实施例,但是能够做出实现本发明的一些优点的各种改变和修改,而不偏离本发明的真实范围。
Claims (19)
1.一种植入式电子系统,包括:
植入式电源,包括:
i.多个无线电接收线圈能量输入端口,用于接收外部产生的电源信号,以及
ii.多个能量输出端口,用于产生检测到的能量信号;
以及
植入式人工处理模块,包括:
i.多个人工处理输入端口,其被连接到所述能量输出端口,用于接收所述检测到的能量信号,以及
ii.多个人工处理输出端口,其用于产生人工刺激信号输出,以供电刺激目标神经组织;
其中所述多个端口中的每个适于在不产生dc电势的情况下操作。
2.根据权利要求1所述的植入式电子系统,其中,所述植入式电源处于非气密的耐湿封装中。
3.根据权利要求1所述的植入式电子系统,其中,所述植入式人工处理模块处于非气密的耐湿封装中。
4.根据权利要求1所述的植入式电子系统,其中,所述人工处理输入端口通过布线连接到所述能量输出端口。
5.根据权利要求1所述的植入式电子系统,其中,所述多个端口中的至少一个包括可断开的连接器,以允许布线容易地附接到所述多个端口以及从所述多个端口拆开。
6.根据权利要求1所述的植入式电子系统,其中,所述外部产生的电源信号是射频信号。
7.根据权利要求1所述的植入式电子系统,其中,所述外部产生的电源信号利用植入的接收线圈进行接收。

12.一种植入式电子系统,包括:
单个的植入式非气密耐湿封装,包括:
