通过使用能够使电器内部组件之间以及外部组件与电器的一个或多个内部组件之间的通信简单的软件架构,各种组件和附件都可以与电器通信,从而扩展电器的能力、功能和可用性。所述电器可以是任何适当电器,例如家用电器。关于家用电器的示例包括但不局限于洗衣机、干衣机、烤炉、洗碗机、电冰箱、冷冻机、微波炉、垃圾捣碎机、以及台面电器,例如制华夫机、烤面包机、搅拌器、混合器、食物加工机、制咖啡机等。

以下将会给出组件和附件的若干示例的描述,在下文中,这些组件和附件被称为“附件”,应该理解的是,附件可以被视为是网络上与具有软件架构的电器结合使用的组件。这些附件既可以处于电器外部,也可以处于电器内部。每一个附件都可以利用软件架构运作,由此附件会在网络上建立节点,或者成为网络上现有节点的一部分。
附件的一个示例是时钟。在一个实施例中,该时钟处于电器外部并且是原子时钟。例如,该原子时钟可以是能够与一个或多个电器进行通信的无线原子时钟。在图1中显示了该实施例的图例,其中时钟10可以与烤炉形式的第一电器12以及微波炉形式的第二电器14进行通信。
该时钟可以借助任何适当的方法来获取官方时间,例如从蜂窝网络、无线电网络或因特网获取官方时间。然后,该时钟可以将官方时间发送给电器。例如,该时钟可以自动发送官方时间,可以根据已注册的时间事件来发送官方时间(即,以预定时间间隔向针对时间事件进行了注册的电器发送官方时间),或者可以应一个或多个电器的请求来发送官方时间。
在图1中显示了发送时间的示例。时钟10与网络上的第一和第二电器12、14进行通信,并且请求具有时钟的电器的标识。所述第一和第二电器12、14通过向时钟10通知第一电器12和第二电器14各自具有时钟来作出响应,并且提供各个时钟的相应地址。第一和第二电器12、14断电(即关闭)和通电(即开启)的事件的发生使得第一和第二电器12、14上的时间不再被设置。然后,时钟10会将官方时间发送给第一和第二电器12、14中的每一个的时钟,并且时钟10、第一电器12以及第二电器14都会显示相同的官方时间。
该时钟还可以充当用于增大电器提供给目的地电器的信号的放大器,或者充当可将电器提供的信号发送到目的地电器的无线接入点。例如,该电器可以具有无线电装置,该无线电装置的强度并不足以被目的地电器看到,但却足以被所述时钟看到。该时钟可以接收到来自该电器的信号,并且将该信号重新广播给目的地电器或可以将该信号发送到目的地电器的另一电器等。在重新广播该信号之前或同时,该时钟可以放大所述信号,或者该时钟可以简单地重新广播该信号。在图2中显示了以这种方式使用时钟的示例。对时钟10来说,烤炉形式的第一电器12是可见的,并且第一电器12向时钟10发送信号。在将该信号重新广播给微波炉形式的第二(目的地)电器14之前或同时,时钟10可以可选地放大所述信号。在目的地电器是冰箱形式的第三电器16的另一情形中,第二电器14可以将信号发送给第三电器16。
该时钟也可以可选地充当协议桥接器。协议是用于控制装置间的数据传输的标准过程;但是,并非所有装置都必须采用相同的协议进行通信。该桥接器有效地将一个协议转换成另一个协议,从而使具有不同协议的装置可以相互通信。因此,时钟不仅可以充当时间保持装置,而且还可以充当电器之间或电器与另一个装置之间的桥接器。由此,在时钟之中可以加入桥接功能,从而用户不需要购买单独的桥接器。放大器和桥接功能也可以包含在下述的任何其它附件中。
现在参考图3,与电器12、14、16进行通信的时钟10可以包括用于与用户通信的显示器18。该显示器18可以集成有时间显示器或者可以与时间显示器分离。作为示例,该显示器18可以是液晶显示器(LCD)、等离子体显示器、数字显示器等。该显示器18可以诸如通过一个或多个通知图标来向用户传达电器状态。电器状态的示例包括但不局限于洗衣完成、干衣完成、衣物不平衡、微波食物解冻、翻转解冻微波中的食物、微波食物就绪、烤炉预加热完成、烤炉食物就绪、沸腾溢出到炉灶面(cooktop)、点火、热水就绪以及咖啡就绪。在恰当情况下,相关通知图标例如通过闪烁或持续点亮而变亮或者以其它方式变得可见,并且该图标可以酌情变暗或者以其它方式变得不可见。
时钟10还可以具有诸如借助显示器18向用户传达与时钟10与之通信的电器12、14、16的警报状态的能力,作为选择,用户可以诸如借助显示器18来确认接收到报警状态。根据一个实施例,用户的确认可以清除来自时钟10以及电器12、14、16的报警状态。这样,显示器18可以充当这样的用户界面,该用户界面不仅实现了从电器到用户的通信而且实现了从用户到电器的通信。
继续参考图3,作为选择,时钟10可以包括电器控制能力,由此用户可以诸如借助显示器18通过时钟10向电器12、14、16提供控制输入或命令。示例性命令包括但不局限于:启动/停止洗衣循环、启动/停止甩干循环、启动/停止烹饪程序、减小加热部件功率以进行慢煮、在甩干循环之后执行低热翻滚、降低微波加热功率、提高冰箱中冷藏区的温度等。
如果网络上的时钟不具有充当原子时钟的电子装置,那么该时钟可以是能从使用“TimeCast(时间播送)”协议的原子时钟接收时间的卫星时钟。由此,该时钟可以显示由原子时钟通过TimeCast给出的时间。
如上所述,该时钟既可以位于电器内部,或者可以位于电器外部。当该时钟位于电器内部时,用于时钟的电子装置可以在电器制造过程中封装于电器之中,或者可以作为零件市场上的附件而被安装在电器之中。作为内部附件的时钟可以具有上文中针对外部时钟描述的任何功能。该时钟还可以“插入”电器上的适当连接器中。该连接器可以同时提供电力和数据通信。
与电器常规关联的时钟也可以充当附件。例如,该电器的时钟可以与其它电器的时钟进行通信以诸如进行时钟同步,从而在所有电器之间建立和/或保持一致的时间。在图4中描述了时钟同步的一个示例。第一电器12广播用于请求有时钟电器的标识的消息。第二电器14通过向第一电器12通知第二电器14具有时钟来作出响应,并且提供该时钟的地址。由此,第一电器12将会确定具有时钟的电器。以后,用户可以设置第一电器12上的时间,然后第一电器12可以将所设置的时间广播给具有时钟的电器,例如第二电器14。另选的是,用户可以设置另一个电器上的时钟的时间,所述另一个电器可以将所设置的时间发送到第一电器12和第二电器14。作为该过程的结果,用户只需要设置这些电器中的一个上的时间,而其它电器上的时钟会与具有所设置的时间的时钟自动同步。这种配置在诸如停电的情况下尤其有益,在该情况下这些电器上的多个时钟丧失电力并且由此丢失了时间。
在图5中示意性显示了时钟同步的另一个示例。在该示例中,电器向另一个电器请求时间。第三电器16广播用于请求有时钟电器的标识的消息。第一电器12通过向第三电器16通知第一电器12具有时钟来作出响应,并且提供该时钟的地址。类似地,第二电器14通过向第三电器16通知第二电器14具有时钟来作出响应,并且提供该时钟的地址。由此,第三电器16将会确定具有时钟的电器。然后第三电器16与至少一个具有时钟的电器进行通信(该电器在图5中被显示成第一电器12)并且向第一电器12请求时间。第一电器12通过向第三电器16提供时间而作出响应。另选的是,第三电器16可以向诸如第二电器14的另一个电器请求时间。
这些电器的时钟还可以通过以周期性间隔广播时间的一个电器来进行同步。当以这种方式同步时钟时,该时间的每分钟翻转都可以被同步成使得即使在显示的时间正在变化时在时钟时间之间也没有差异。
附件的另一个示例是烹饪辅助器。该烹饪辅助器可以是有源附件、传感附件或其组合。该有源附件可以由用户编程,或者可以接收来自电器的命令,以进行行动。该传感附件可以包括一个或多个传感器,这些传感器检测附件和/或电器的状态,并且将所述状态传达给电器或网络上的其它组件。
示例性有源烹饪辅助器包括可以与烤炉形式的第一电器12相关联的受控搅拌器20以及配料分送器22。如图6所示,受控搅拌器20可以与位于第一电器12的炉灶面26上的烹饪容器24(例如壶或锅)相耦合。另选的是,受控搅拌器20可以耦合到例如炉灶面26的第一电器12,而不是烹饪容器24。受控搅拌器20包括:搅拌机构28,例如螺旋钻,其可以引导材料(即食物)在烹饪容器24内的运动;以及支架30,用于将搅拌机构28耦合到烹饪容器24或第一电器12。受控搅拌器20具有控制器32,该控制器32可以与炉灶面26或第一电器12的其它部分进行通信,以接收搅拌命令。所述命令可以与一食谱相关联,例如存储在第一电器12内的食谱或者以其它方式(例如借助网络上的另一个组件)而使第一电器12可见的食谱。另选的是,用户可以根据期望的动作或食谱而对受控搅拌器20进行编程。这些搅拌命令可以包括如下信息,例如开始搅拌、停止搅拌、搅拌速度以及搅拌频率。在一另选实施例中,受控搅拌器20可以与烹饪容器24集成在一起。无论受控搅拌器20的结构如何,使用受控搅拌器20消除或者减少了让用户出现在第二电器12处来搅拌烹饪容器24中的材料的需要。当食谱需要以相对较长的时间连续搅拌材料时,这种受控搅拌器20尤其有益。
现在参考图7,配料分送器24可被安装或位于第一电器12附近,并且可以包括被配置成存储配料的一个或多个隔间40。这些隔间40与相应的分送机构42相耦合,这些分送机构42被配置成将配料从隔间40传送到锅或壶之类的烹饪容器44。烹饪容器44常在炉灶面44上或者在第一电器12内部使用。配料分送器24还包括控制器46,该控制器46与第一电器12进行通信,以接收与分送配料相关的命令。所述命令与食谱相关联,例如存储在第一电器12内的食谱或者以其它方式(例如借助网络上的另一个组件)使第一电器12可见的食谱。另选的是,用户可以根据预期动作或食谱而对配料分送器24进行编程。与分送配料相关联的命令可以包括如下信息,例如何时添加配料以及要添加配料的量。
配料分送器24可以在隔间40(也就是预填充隔间)中有配料或者隔间40为空的情况下提供给用户,在隔间40为空的情况下用户必须向隔间40提供配料。在隔间40被预填充时,配料的类型和量可以与预定食谱相对应。在一个实施例中,配料分送器24可以包括可替换的隔间,从而用户可以插入与预期食谱相对应的隔间40。
使用配料分送器24提供了几个优点。例如,在准备烹饪容器44中的材料期间,配料分送器可以在恰当时间精确测量和分送配料,由此提高了所得到食物的质量。此外,配料分送器24消除或减少了使用户出现在第二电器12处来分送配料的需要。
示例性传感烹饪辅助器包括传感烹饪容器50和可拆卸烹饪容器传感器52,它们都可与烤炉形式的第一电器12相关联。如图8所示,传感烹饪容器50包括烹饪容器54以及可以检测烹饪容器54的状态的传感器56。烹饪容器54可以是锅或壶之类的任何适当类型的烹饪容器。传感器56例如可以是温度传感器、定时器、组合温度传感器/定时器、声音传感器、湿度传感器、视觉传感器以及运动检测器。该传感器可以与烹饪容器54集成在一起,或者可以以其它方式与烹饪容器54相耦合。传感器56可以与炉灶面26之类的第一电器12或者网络上的其它组件进行通信,以传达感测到的烹饪容器54的状态。例如,感测到的状态可以是沸腾、沸溢、慢煮、当前温度、沸腾时间、慢煮时间、特定温度之上的时间以及作为时间函数的温度(即加热曲线)。第一电器12可以被配置成诸如通过提高热量、降低热量以及增加或减少处于特定温度的时间来对感测到的烹饪容器54的状态作出响应。第一电器12作出的响应可以依照食谱或依照用户编程的指令。由此,传感烹饪容器50提供了一种用于在烹饪容器54与第一电器12之间的闭环温度控制的手段。
就视觉传感器来说,该传感器可以将视频发送到消费者的另一设备。然后,消费者可以根据具体情况而作出包括控制调整或搅拌激活的控制功能决定。
另选的是,传感烹饪容器50的功能可以利用可拆卸烹饪容器传感器52来实现。现在参考图9,可拆卸烹饪容器传感器52是可拆卸地耦合到常规烹饪容器58的附件,并且包含在上文中针对传感烹饪容器50所描述的传感器56。可拆卸烹饪容器传感器52可以为任何适当的形式,诸如如图9所示的夹子,该夹子可拆卸地夹在烹饪容器58上。使用可拆卸烹饪容器传感器52消除了用户购买具有传感器56的特殊烹饪容器的需要;更确切地说,由于可拆卸烹饪容器传感器52能够有效地将传感器56添加到任何烹饪容器,因此它可以与任何烹饪容器一起使用。
上述的示例性烹饪辅助器、受控搅拌器20、配料分送器22、传感烹饪容器50以及可拆卸烹饪容器传感器52可以单独使用,或者可以相互组合地使用。烹饪辅助器20、 22、50、52中的每一个都为烹饪过程提供了一定程度的自动化,并且使用一种以上的烹饪辅助器会提高自动化程度。当用户使用一种以上的烹饪辅助器20、22、50、52时,除了与第一电器12或网络上的其它组件进行通信之外,这些烹饪辅助器20、22、50、52还可以可选地执行相互通信。
附件的另一个示例是被配置成存储和传送电器的操作循环的操作循环组件。操作循环是电器为了进行电器操作而执行的一组命令。例如,洗衣机可以具有若干洗衣循环,这些循环取决于待洗织物的类型或织物装载量的大小。类似地,烤炉可以具有若干烹饪循环,这些循环取决于待烹饪食物的类型以及烹饪过程(例如解冻、烘焙、自清洁)。通常,电器在被用户购买时就具有作为固件而永久驻留于电器中的一组操作循环。现在参考图10,操作循环组件60可以存储最初并没有随电器12提供的附加操作循环,并且与电器12进行通信以使电器可执行这些附加操作循环。操作循环组件60存储的操作循环还可或者另选地包含经更新的操作循环。操作循环组件60可以是任何类型的组件,例如可插入电器12中的硬件装置。在图10中,操作循环组件60被显示成可以与个人计算机和电器12相耦合的USB加密狗(dongle)。这种USB连接和通信只是为了进行例示,而不是对本发明的限制。可以使用其它任何适当的连接器和/或通信方法。
继续参考图10,可以采用任何适当方式将附加操作循环上传到操作循环组件60中。例如,可以在零售店62购买具有附加操作循环的操作循环组件60,或者可以在零售店将附加操作循环上传到操作循环组件60中。另选的是,用户可以经由因特网64下载附加操作循环。例如,用户可以通过个人计算机66来下载附加操作循环,然后将该附加操作循环上传到操作循环组件60中,或者用户可以以无线方式直接将操作循环下载到操作循环组件60中。在另一个实施例中,用户可以在个人计算机60上开发定制的附加操作循环,并且将定制的附加操作循环上传到操作循环组件60中。在一另选实施例中,附加操作循环可以在不使用操作循环组件60的情况下从个人计算机66无线地发送到电器12。这种以无线方式发送的附加操作循环可被发送到电器12的中间存储器。这些循环还可以借助软件架构或其它方法进行认证,以确保其与电器兼容并适用于所述电器。
操作循环组件60可以以任何适当方式与电器12耦合,例如通过直接硬接线连接或无线连接而与电器12耦合。此外,电器12还可以直接从操作循环组件60中执行附加操作循环,或者可将附加操作循环从操作循环组件60传送到电器12。现在参考图11,该图描述的是电器12的主控制器68,附加操作循环可以被认为是提供给循环引擎的软件。该循环引擎可以对从多个持续性源提供的操作循环数据进行操作。
附件的其它示例包括消耗品和消耗品读取器。消耗品是处于电器外部并且在电器操作期间或者在电器操作之后被消耗或者是以其它方式使用的物体。消耗品既可以被电器消耗,或者可以被用户消耗。消耗品的示例包括但不局限于:用于洗衣机和/或洗碗机的去污剂和其它清洗剂、织物物品(例如衣服)、加热即食餐、冷冻附菜、冷冻餐、微波爆米花、冷冻皮萨以及冷冻早餐三明治。与消耗品相关联的特性或信息包括诸如操作循环、使用指导、烹饪指令、用量信息以及清洗/烘干指令,这些特性或信息例如可以存在于消耗品自身内部,存在于消耗品的包装中,或者存在于随消耗品提供的辅助材料(例如用户手册和标签)中。
消耗品读取器是可以接收与消耗品相关联的信息并且将其发送到电器控制器的组件。该消耗品读取器可以是与电器集成在一起的装置,或者可以是可通过硬接线连接或无线连接耦合到电器从而与电器进行通信的独立装置。消耗品读取器的示例包括但不局限于条形码扫描器、射频标识(RFID)标签读取器以及磁条读取器。
消耗品读取器将与消耗品相关的信息传达给电器,从而使电器可以针对消耗品来优化其性能。在图12的示意性图例中提供了使用消耗品以及消耗品读取器的示例。在这个示例中,食物供应商70确定用于冷冻餐形式的消耗品72的烹饪指令,并且将这些烹饪指令编码在消耗品72的包装上。用户可以将消耗品72放在烤炉形式的电器12附近,并且电器12的消耗品读取器74将来自消耗品72的编码烹饪指令传达给电器12。然后,电器12可以执行该烹饪指令来准备冷冻餐。
可以想到的是,消耗品将包含与消耗品的优选操作循环相对应的信息。就食物物品来说,该信息对应于消耗品的烹饪周期。消耗品还可具有识别电器以及提供电器专用操作循环的能力。实现此点的一种方式是使消耗品具有与特定电器或电器类别相对应的操作循环。使用该消耗品的电器将会识别和实现相关的操作循环。另一种实现方式是使消耗品具有一标识符,并且电器存储或访问关于不同消耗品的操作循环的数据库或表。电器取得消耗品标识符,然后查找该消耗品的相应操作循环。
与消耗品相关联的信息可以为任何适当的形式。在一个实施例中,该信息可以是直接发送到软件架构的通信分组,由此消除了集中存储消耗品数据的需要。在另一个实施例中,该信息可以是用于将电器指引到所存储消耗品数据的键码(key)。
在没有消耗品读取器的情况下使用消耗品也在本发明的范围内。例如,消耗品可以被配置成在不使用中间消耗品读取器的情况下直接与电器或网络上的其它组件进行通信。
消耗品可以由第三方供应商提供(比如店铺购买的冷冻餐以及用于洗衣机和/或洗碗机的清洗剂的情况),或者可以由用户提供。剩菜、已烹饪和未烹饪准备食物是可以由用户提供的消耗品的示例。剩菜和准备食物可以放置在存储容器中,该容器编码有与该剩菜和准备食物相关的信息。举例来说,该信息可以包括重新加热指令或烹饪指令以及过期日期(即丢弃日期)。当该信息包含过期日期时,如果当前日期超出过期日期,那么烤炉或微波炉之类的电器会拒绝重新加热或烹饪该食物。作为选择,当用户希望不顾过期日期而重新加热或烹饪食物时,可以将电器配置成接收来自用户的强制命令。
任何适当的材料都可以用于对信息进行编码,其示例包括但不局限于塑料包装、铝箔、壶、锅、微波安全容器、容器盖以及可以放置在存储容器上的粘合物或磁条。该信息可以由最始准备剩饭以及准备食物的人进行配置,并且可以使用任何适当的装置进行编码,所述装置例如是个人计算机、磁条写入器以及手持式编码装置。采用该配置,用户可以根据需要来配置消耗品上的信息。
沿着消耗品和消耗品读取器的路线,附件的另一个示例是食谱书籍以及食谱书籍扫描棒。食谱书籍可以包含具有相关烹饪指令的各种食谱,并且这些烹饪指令可以通过食谱书籍扫描棒进行提取。例如,这些烹饪指令可以从食谱书籍的文本或者隐藏或可见的编码中提取。然后,食谱书籍扫描棒可以借助硬接线连接或无线连接而将烹饪指令传达给电器以供执行。在一另选实施例中,食谱书籍可以在不使用食谱书籍扫描棒的情况下直接与电器通信。
附件的另一个示例是商业洗衣店贷记附件。商业洗衣店贷记附件可以是任何适当的装置,例如具有存储器和/或微处理器的卡(通常被称为“智能卡”)和加密狗。该商业洗衣店贷记附件可以存储洗衣操作循环贷记量,并且可以借助直接或无线连接而与例如位于公共洗衣设施中的商业洗衣机形式的电器进行通信。当商业洗衣店贷记附件具有足够贷记量时,该电器将会操作并且依照电器的操作而从商业洗衣店贷记附件中扣除贷记量。作为选择,个人用户可以购买洗衣操作循环贷记量,或者其它人可以购买用于馈赠目的的洗衣操作循环贷记量。在一个实施例中,洗衣操作循环贷记量可以在公共洗衣设施处购买,或者可以诸如通过因特网远程地购买。
贷记附件还可以与软件架构结合使用来追踪使用情况,并且将使用情况信息传送给本地或远程的中心系统。该贷记附件可以改变洗衣店的价格变化以及其它操作参数。所述价格变化可以与能够通过软件架构访问的其它信息相联系,这些信息例如为能量花费。贷记附件还可以通过有线或无线方式来收集诊断信息,并且在存在任何未决问题的情况下要求维修或警告所有者。该智能卡还可以用于向电器用户界面提供备选内容,例如广告。
附件的另一个示例是定制连接器,该连接器可以用于将电器与另一个附件或网络上的另一个组件相耦合。所述定制连接器可以与任何能与电器耦合的物品(例如电缆或加密狗)相关联,并且可以被配置成阻止非授权第三方装置与电器以及网络上的其它组件进行不希望的耦合,所述物品包含普通品牌的替换零件。由此,连接物品必须具有定制连接器,以与电器或网络上的其它组件耦合。
另一组示例性附件涉及能量使用。例如,该附件可以是能量控制器和/或能量监视器,在下文中将其统称为能量控制器。能量控制器可以是网络上的单独组件,该组件与家中的若干电器以及其它联网组件进行通信,而且还与电源之类的能量源进行通信。该能量控制器可以监视各电器使用的能量的量,并且可以在这些电器之间分配能量。这种能量分配可以使能量得以有效使用,并且例如当能量源减少了所供应能量的量时,这种能量分配还可以管理能量使用。能量控制器还可以控制电器的操作,使得在通常对应于较低能量花费的非高峰能量使用时间内进行操作。
能量控制器可以在内部被配置成与电器进行通信,或者诸如加密狗的单独连接附件也可以与能量控制器相耦合,以提供与电器的连接。类似地,该电器可以在内部被配置成与能量控制器进行通信,或者如图13所示的加密狗之类的独立连接附件78可以与电器12相耦合,以提供与能量控制器的连接。该连接附件可以具有发现电器类型以及为电器提供适当的软件架构模块的能力。另外,该连接附件可以具有对来自能量控制器的消息和命令作出响应的能力。所述连接附件可以被配置成在能量控制器与电器之间提供无线通信。
能量控制器78可以通过诸如无线、因特网、电力线等的任何适当手段而与能量提供方相连。借助该连接,能量提供方可以提供与电器控制相关的信息。作为信息供应的补充或替换,该能量提供方还可以对电器进行远程控制。
其它能量相关附件包括智能断路器、智能调光器和智能适配器。在2006年6月24日授权的美国专利No.6988375中详细描述了智能断路器,通过引用将其全文并入于此。
智能调光器实际上是灯开关之类的具有分离的开/关控制的负荷开关的替换物,并且可以在网络上包括灯和吊扇的任何组件中使用。该智能调光器诸如借助三端双向可控硅开关元件控制或变换器/倒相器控制,不仅提供了接通和断开电源的能力,而且还提供了改变电压的能力。智能调光器与能量控制器进行通信,例如对来自能量控制器的请求作出响应并且将能量消耗状态通知给能量控制器。通过向能量控制器提供针对与智能调光器相关联的组件的附加控制,能量控制器具有用以在不中断用户的情况下实现目标能量损耗的更多能力。此外,在紧急能量缩减的情况下,能量控制器可以与智能调光器进行通信,以调暗或关闭灯或与智能调光器相关联的其它组件。该智能调光器还可以具有相关联的传感能力,以将关于瓦特和功率因数的测量结果反馈给能量控制器。
智能适配器的功能与智能调光器相似,但是它充当的是普通墙壁插座的替换物。如果用智能适配器来替换普通墙壁插座,该智能适配器可以按类似于智能调光器与能量控制器之间的通信的方式与能量控制器进行通信,那么诸如热水器的通常以关/开模式操作的“无智能”组件可以插入到智能适配器中并被转换成在网络上使用并且在变化的电压上操作。结果,具有智能适配器的组件可以参与能量缩减程序,并且可以将能量使用信息传达给能量控制器。
附件的其它示例涉及为电器提供服务。在一个实施例中,远程服务中心可以与家中的电器进行无线通信。结果,远程服务中心可以被动或主动地对包括电器低级别组件的电器进行监视,并且对电器故障进行诊断。在图14中示出了对电器的被动监视的示例。在该情形中,用户例如借助电话呼叫或通过因特网与客户服务中心80进行通信,以向客户服务中心80通知烤炉形式的电器12不正常操作。作为响应,客户服务中心80与电器12进行无线通信,以监视电器12并对与电器12的组件、尤其是门锁闩相关联的故障进行诊断。由此,在网络上执行的观察使远程服务中心80能够在不提供入户服务的情况下诊断发生故障的组件。
如果在电器的内部网络上无法得到进行诊断所需的信息,那么远程服务中心80可以使用在所并入的前述PCT专利申请中更详细描述的DAQ来检索可以在相关电器组件的存储器中得到的信息,从而对问题进行分析或搜索问题。
如果除了被动监视之外远程服务中心80确定了需要控制和测试电器12的低级组件,那么远程服务中心80可以主动监视电器12。为了主动监视电器12,远程服务中心80可以将电器12置于开发状态,这在所并入的前述PCT专利申请和作为优先权的申请中进行了更详细的描述。在开发状态中,远程服务中心80可以与电器12进行通信,并且激励加热器、阀门和马达之类的电器单独组件来帮助执行诊断。根据一个实施例,为了使电器12进入开发状态,电器12必须处于监管模式。在监管模式中,在电器12处必须有负责人来确保激活电器12的单独组件不会伤害电器12附近的任何人。该负责人可以是电器12的用户或是其它任何被认定负责的人。负责人的存在可以以任何适当方式确认,例如通过负责人标识卡与电器12之间的通信或者通过负责人按下电器12上的键。
另选的是,该电器可以由诸如用户的处于家中的个人借助服务附件而不是使用远程服务中心来进行监视和诊断。在这种情形下,自动服务系统将会替换远程服务中心。该服务附件可以是任何适当装置,例如加密狗,其被配置成借助有线连接或无线地与电器以及自动服务系统进行通信。
在图15中示出了使用自动服务系统和服务附件为应用提供自服务的示例。如步骤1所示,用户将服务附件90耦合到烤炉形式的电器12,并且服务附件90自动进行配置来记录来自电器12的诊断数据。如果发生电器故障,那么如步骤2所示,用户将服务附件90从电器12上移除,并且将该服务附件90耦合到个人计算机92。接下来,如步骤3所示,服务附件90经由个人计算机92连接到因特网,并且将与电器故障相关联的诊断数据上传到自动服务系统。该自动服务系统分析诊断数据,并且确定恰当的响应。例如,该响应可以包括根据诊断数据来下载定制测试脚本,并且该测试脚本可以用于进一步诊断电器故障或排除问题。如步骤4所示,测试脚本可以经由因特网和个人计算机92而下载到服务附件90中,可将服务附件90重新耦合到电器12,以将测试脚本传送到电器12。另选的是,服务附件可以是允许蜂窝电话、个人计算机和个人数字助理之类的计算装置执行与数据采集、分析相关联的逻辑以及测试脚本的耦合机构。
附件的其它示例涉及家庭自动化。家庭自动化系统是具有控制中心的系统,该控制中心被配置成控制家庭内的多个对象,例如灯、窗帘、百叶窗、恒温器、音频/视频组件以及安全系统。典型的控制中心采用如下形式:诸如触摸板监视器的监视器或者具有定制键盘的遥控器。借助软件架构,电器可以与家庭自动化系统集成在一起。在一个实施例中,电器可被添加到现有的家庭自动化系统,由此可以从控制中心对电器进行控制、监视等。该电器可选地可以借助与电器相耦合的无线装置来与控制中心进行通信。另选的是,电器还可以作为控制中心来使用。例如,厨房通常位于家中的中心位置,而厨房中的电器之一(诸如冰箱)可以包括控制中心。在该示例中,控制中心可以是集成在冰箱门上的监视器。
通过将电器与家庭自动化系统组合在一起,可以实现若干协作特征。例如,当家庭自动化系统的火灾报警器或烟雾检测器检测到火或烟雾时,组合的电器/家庭自动化系统将可以采取恰当操作,例如关闭烤炉和炉灶面、关闭HVAC系统、开启灯以及切断燃气供应。在另一个示例中,用户可以将组合的电器/家庭自动化系统设置于休假模式。当外出和处于休假期间,组合的电器/家庭自动化系统可以采取恰当操作,例如切断供水、关闭热水器、提高冰箱温度、启用报警器以及设置成如果冰箱门被打开就进行自动电话报警。在返回时,组合的电器/家庭自动化系统可以采取恰当操作,例如开启供水、开启热水器、降低冰箱温度以及禁用报警器。
另举一例,组合的电器/家庭自动化系统可以向用户提供时间管理益处以及安心的通知。时间管理益处的通知包括但不局限于:织物/碟盘清洗完成、织物/碗盘烘干完成、微波解冻完成、翻转食物以微波解冻、烤炉预加热完成以及食物烹饪完成。当接收到通知时,用户可以立即照看相应电器,从而移除织物负荷、碗碟负荷、食物等,而不是耗费时间来定期检查操作循环是否完成,或者可能延迟另一个操作循环的开始。安心的通知可以包括但不局限于:冰箱门微开、冷冻机门微开、滤水器在操作、烤炉仍开着、炉灶面仍开着、地下室湿度等级令人满意、空气过滤系统在运作、空气质量指标、炉灶面上发生沸溢、以及烧烤火焰超出限度。
这些通知可以在控制系统上或者在家庭外可使用的远程装置上提供给用户。远程装置的示例包括但不局限于:蜂窝电话、密钥卡(keyfob)、以及寻呼机/蜂鸣器。该远程装置可以配置有用来与电器或网络上的其它组件进行通信的软件架构。
附件的另一个示例是网络绑定器。该网络绑定器是通过向各节点指定相同的唯一网络ID而将无线网络上的节点绑定到网络的装置。该绑定处理允许将处于彼此通信范围内的节点绑定在一起从而创建专用网络,以及将这些节点与同样处于通信范围内但却不是该网络一部分的其它节点分离。当在彼此的范围内存在多个网络(例如在邻近区域或公寓建筑中)时,该网络绑定器会非常有用。专用网络防止通信在网络间疏忽地进行发送,这将防止非预期的交互。本申请的网络绑定器可以是只用于绑定处于该网络绑定器的较小范围内的电器或其它组件的无线装置。例如,该网络绑定器可以具有大约3到4英尺的有限传输范围,以确保在网络绑定器操作时将目标电器或其它组件绑定到网络。在图16中示出了示例性网络绑定器100,该网络绑定器100包括至少一个按钮102,当处于电器12或其它组件附近时,该按钮可被按下以将电器12或其它组件绑定到网络。作为选择,该网络绑定器可以具有与个人计算机或其它计算装置进行通信从而使计算装置也被配置的能力。

附件的另一个示例是电器监视器。该电器监视器可以是与电器集成或与之分离的装置,并且该电器监视器监视并记录与电器相关联的操作数据。该电器监视器可以监视一个电器或多个电器。作为选择,该电器监视器可以包括用于显示电器操作状态的显示器,并且可以与上述远程用户界面集成,从而同样提供向电器发出命令的能力。此外,该电器监视器可以可选地被配置成将与电器相关联的操作数据发送给另一个装置,例如个人计算装置或中间存储装置,例如加密狗。

附件的其它示例涉及为电器提供服务。如果电器遇到了需要服务人员入户维修的故障,那么服务人员可以使用智能电缆120或智能无线连接器122将个人计算机或其它便携式计算装置与电器相耦合。如图20中示意性显示的那样,智能电缆120将电器12与便携式计算装置124硬接线连接。该智能电缆120可以包括能在电器12与个人计算装置124之间实现通信的特殊专用电子装置。结果,不具有智能电缆120的未授权人员无法将未授权计算装置与电器相耦合。现在参考图21,智能无线连接器122实现与智能电缆120相同的功能,但是前者在电器12与便携式计算装置124之间提供的是无线连接而不是硬接线连接。该智能无线连接器122可以是能在电器12与便携式计算装置124之间建立专用连接的任何适当装置,例如专用的无线加密狗。

中心收集器130还可以用于归并顾客使用数据。顾客使用数据可被销售给第三方并且在顾客研究中加以使用,以获得对顾客使用模式和偏好的见解。作为另一个选项,中心收集器130可以用于基准测试。与电器相关联的操作数据可被归并,并且与基准进行比较,或者可以用于产生与电器性能相关联的基准。在将操作数据与基准相比较并且该比较表明电器性能下降时,可以向用户警告性能的降低。
中心收集器130的衍生物是黑盒记录器。黑盒记录器的功能与中心收集器130相似,但是它被构造成在火灾或其它有可能对电器或家庭造成破坏的事件的情况下无法被毁坏或者至少保持了与电器相关联的操作数据。该操作数据可能被保险公司和调查人员用于评估破坏性事件的原因和效果。
现在参考图23,本地收集器132在功能上与中心收集器130的相似之处在于:本地收集器132与电器进行通信,并且监视和记录与电器相关联的操作数据;但是,本地收集器132是一便携式装置,该装置以可拆卸的方式与电器相耦合。如图23所示,在该图中,本地收集器132被示出为加密狗,本地收集器132可以与电器12相耦合,以接收与电器12相关联的操作数据,并且它可以从电器12移除。在被从电器12移除之后,本地收集器132可以与用户计算装置134相耦合,操作数据可以从计算装置132诸如经由因特网发送到一远程位置,例如远程服务中心80或远程自动化中心136。如果用户没有计算装置134或因特网连接,那么可以将本地收集器132提供给货运服务138,以将其递送到该远程位置。
本地收集器132可以使用服务附件90来实现。无论是本地收集器132还是服务附件90都可以与电器的电气系统相对接,并且与电器或服务工具(附件)相对接,从而对电器执行增强的诊断和性能分析。示例性的用途有:对各输出装置(在被激活时)消耗预期的电力消耗进行验证;以及通过评价包含在电气总线中的信息来实现特定的性能或故障状态(示例频率分析)。
附件的另一个示例是电器耦合器。该电器耦合器可以是能在电器之间实现直接通信的任何装置,例如电缆连接器或能够执行无线通信的装置。结果,耦合的电器可以相互通信,这在一个电器的操作影响到另一个电器操作的时候尤其有益。举例来说,洗衣机和干衣机可以通过电器耦合器相耦合,并且干衣机的操作循环可以根据洗衣机使用的操作循环来选择。

该销售演示可以从与电器12的制造商相关联的网站下载到销售演示附件140,并且可以定期更新以反映电器12的制造商的当前市场策略。通过将电器12与零售店中展示的其它电器区分开来,销售演示可以帮助提高电器12的销量。这种销售演示可以根据零售店以及电器12的制造商的贸易伙伴进行定制。此外,通过将销售演示定位在销售演示附件140上,可以从电器12上移除常规上驻留在电器12上的销售演示用代码,由此减少了电器12的开发时间和成本。
附件的另一个示例是可以用于与电器12进行通信的蜂窝电话。通常,现今的蜂窝电话具有若干集成的技术,这些技术包括联网能力(包括蓝牙)、因特网连接能力、彩色用户界面、优质音响、用于自动拨号的语音识别能力以及触觉反馈(例如振动),并且这些集成的技术可以与电器12结合使用。参考图25,蜂窝电话150可以经由蓝牙或诸如USB连接器的外部连接器与电器12进行通信。蜂窝电话150还可以经由因特网进行通信。由此,蜂窝电话150可以从因特网下载信息并且将下载的信息传递到电器12,并且相反地,它可以从电器12接收信息并且将该信息上传到因特网。所述信息可以是与电器12相关联的任何类型的信息,例如应用程序、定制测试、定制音频、诊断数据以及顾客数据。
使用蜂窝电话的示例包括但不局限于:远程诊断和服务、交互式音频、语音控制以及增强型用户界面。对远程诊断和服务来说,蜂窝电话发现电器并且从因特网上下载诊断测试。该蜂窝电话可以在本地通过软件架构和蓝牙(或其它通信手段)来执行诊断测试。在诊断测试完成之后,蜂窝电话可以将测试结果上传到因特网以用于诊断。对交互式音频来说,蜂窝电话发现电器并且从因特网下载定制的音频文件。该蜂窝电话可以通过软件架构和蓝牙(或其它通信手段)向电器注册关键状态事件。当在电器上发生关键事件时,该蜂窝电话可以自动播放恰当的音频文件以提供增强的反馈。对语音控制来说,用户可以将语音命令输入到蜂窝电话中,并且蜂窝电话可以将语音命令转换成用于软件架构的命令并通过蓝牙(或其它通信手段)发送该命令。最后,对增强型用户界面来说,在蜂窝电话上可以执行能够从因特网下载的用户界面应用。该用户界面应用可以利用蜂窝电话上的彩色用户界面、优质声音以及触觉反馈。借助增强型用户界面对电器12进行的控制以及从电器12到增强型用户界面的反馈可以通过软件架构以及蓝牙(或其它通信手段)在本地实现。
附件的另一个示例是音频通信附件。该音频通信附件是与具有常规可视用户界面的电器或网络上的其它组件进行通信的装置,并且该附件为用户界面添加了音频能力。该音频通信附件也可以与不具有用户界面的任何电器或网络上的其它组件进行通信。通过加入音频通信附件,电器或网络上的其它附件可以采用可听方式向用户传递与电器或其它组件相关的信息,并且可选的是,用户可以通过音频通信附件以可听方式向电器或其它组件传递命令等。对具有身体残障(例如失明、或用户难以在电器或其它组件的可视范围内移动的移动问题)的用户来说,可听通信是尤其有益的。可听通信可以是语音(也就是话音)或各种声音,例如蜂鸣、警报、莫尔斯码、歌曲等。
参考图26,音频通信附件160可以直接安装于电器12、14上(如所示出的160A处),或者可以与电器12、14分离或远离,如在160B处所示。在后一种情况下,远程音频通信附件160B可以位于家中对用户而言便利的位置。在一个实施例中,安装于电器12、14的音频通信附件160A可以与远程音频通信附件160B进行通信,从而在一个以上的位置传达可听信息。还可以想到,音频通信附件160可以与例如电话、立体声系统、时钟无线电装置和蜂窝电话的其它音频装置进行通信,从而信息可以采用可听方式通过这些音频装置传达,并且提高了用户听到该信息的可能性。

该音频通信附件还可以用于实现与电器相关联的可听使用护理指南。可听使用护理指南可以被认为是用户必须阅读的常规用户手册的替代物或补充物。与阅读常规用户手册相比,收听可听用户护理指南将更方便、更有效且更易于理解。可听使用护理指南可以包括通常包含在常规用户手册中的内容,例如关于电器的操作循环和/或特性的说明、故障测定信息、以及对电器中使用的不同类型物品(例如衣物、碗盘、食物)的护理建议。作为改进,可听使用护理指南可以被配置成传达与用户实时选择的操作循环相关的信息。由此,在用户选择操作循环时,该可听使用护理指南例如可以向用户通知:如何使用该操作循环、该操作循环的含义、哪些选项对于该操作循环可用、以及用于对该操作循环进行编程的步骤。
可听使用护理指南可以在首次使用电器前被激活,或者可以在用户需要帮助的任何时间激活。在一个实施例中,通过按下电器上的按钮或者借助音频通信附件进行语音激活,可听使用护理指南可以总是可以被用户访问和激活。作为选择,用户例如可以通过询问问题或者指示可听使用护理指南跳过用户不需要的信息而与可听使用护理指南进行交互。根据一个实施例,可听使用护理指南可以针对各种实用情形实现多个可选模式,所述情形例如为:电器是否作为销售演示而处于零售店地板上、家中新电器的情形、新用户的情形或有经验用户的情形。提供给用户的信息量以及信息详细程度可以取决于用户的经验。如果可听使用护理指南令人厌烦,那么可以禁用该指南,或者可以对该指南进行重新配置。
作为选择,音频通信附件可以包括振动之类的触觉反馈,这对于具有听觉障碍的用户来说尤其有益。所述触觉反馈可以与音频通信结合使用,或者可以取代音频通信。用户可以佩戴或携带提供触觉反馈的便携式装置。
无论附件的类型为何,都可将软件架构配置为使所述附件在与电器进行通信之前必须提供电子证明(也就是认证)。通过要求电子证明,防止了在附件与电器之间执行未授权通信,由此避免附件对电器的不期望的控制。

存储器装置。
12.如权利要求11所述的电器网络,其中读取器被配置成与第一联网电器结合使用,以识别与物理家务操作的操作周期相关联的消耗品的至少一个特性,并且根据识别出的至少一个特性来实现至少一个操作循环。
13.如权利要求11所述的电器网络,其中存储器装置包括以下各项中的至少一个:附加操作循环、已更新操作循环、与第一联网电器经历的操作循环相关的历史信息、以及用于重新配置第一联网电器上的软件架构的软件。
14.如权利要求11所述的电器网络,其中器具包括以下各项中的至少一个:分送器,用于结合第一联网电器执行的物理家务操作来进行分送操作;容器,其被配置成结合第一联网电器执行的物理家务操作对该容器的所容之物执行物理操作;以及处理器,其被配置成结合第一联网电器执行的物理家务操作对第一联网电器的所容之物执行物理操作。
15.如权利要求11所述的电器网络,其中网络通信装置包括电话和个人计算机中的至少一个。
16.如权利要求11所述的电器网络,其中用户界面包括以下各项中的至少一个:远程键盘、电话、个人计算机、语音识别装置、语音生成装置、声音生成和识别装置、遥控器、家庭自动化系统的用户界面、与第一联网电器不同的电器的用户界面、与第一联网电器的组件不同的组件的用户界面、电视、播放录制音乐的装置、播放录制视频的装置以及个人数字助理。
17.如权利要求1所述的电器网络,其中附件被配置成向通信网络查询该通信网络上的组件的标识。
18.如权利要求1所述的电器网络,其中附件被配置成在通信网络上创建至少一个附加消息。
19.如权利要求18所述的电器网络,其中附件在第一联网电器的通信网络上形成一节点,其中由附件形成的该节点被配置成对该通信网络上的至少一个其它节点进行控制。
20.一种与第一联网电器结合使用的附件,该第一联网电器具有:包含多个互连节点的通信网络,所述多个节点被配置成跨该通信网络进行通信;多个组件,每个组件都与所述多个节点中的至少一个相关联;具有多个软件部件的软件架构的第一实例,其被配置成执行产生和接收多个消息的处理中的至少一个处理,所述多个消息被配置成控制组件执行一操作循环来完成对物品的物理家务操作,所述附件包括:
该软件架构的第二实例,其被配置成执行产生和接收所述多个消息的处理中的至少一个处理;以及
通信链路,其被配置成与第一联网电器相耦合,以允许在附件与第一联网电器之间传送所述多个消息。
21.如权利要求20所述的附件,还包括消息生成器,该消息生成器被配置成产生第一联网电器可使用的消息。
22.如权利要求20所述的附件,其中软件架构的第二实例产生的所述多个消息包括并未包含在第一联网电器的用户界面所产生的一组消息中的至少一个消息。
23.如权利要求20所述的附件,其中附件包括以下各项中的至少一个:用户界面、网络通信装置、被配置成与第一联网电器结合使用以实现物理家务操作的器具、被配置成执行一操作循环来完成独立于第一联网电器的物理操作的电器、时钟以及存储器装置。
24.如权利要求23所述的附件,其中器具包括以下各项中的至少一个:分送器,用于结合第一联网电器执行的物理家务操作来进行分送操作;容器,其被配置成结合第一联网电器执行的物理家务操作对其所容之物执行物理操作;以及处理器,其被配置成结合第一联网电器执行的物理家务操作对第一联网电器的所容之物执行物理操作。
25.如权利要求23所述的附件,其中网络通信装置包括电话和个人计算机中的至少一个。
26.如权利要求23所述的附件,其中用户界面包括远程键盘、电话、个人计算机和语音识别装置中的至少一个。
27.如权利要求20所述的附件,其中附件被配置成在被软件架构的第一实例允许执行与所述多个消息中的一个消息相关联的控制命令之前向第一联网电器提供电子证明。
28.如权利要求20所述的附件,其中附件在第一联网电器的通信网络上形成一节点,其中由附件形成的该节点被配置成对该通信网络上的至少一个其它节点进行控制。
29.如权利要求20所述的附件,其中软件架构的第一实例被配置成对与第一联网电器的操作相关联的一组结构良好的命令中的一个结构良好的命令作出响应,并且其中附件还包括控制器,该控制器被配置成响应于所述结构良好的命令而对第一联网电器的操作进行控制;该控制器具有:
输入端,其被配置成接收分类数据集,该分类数据集至少表示与第一联网电器的操作相关联的该组结构良好的命令的子集;
用户界面,其被配置成接收和显示该分类数据集,该用户界面还被配置成响应于该分类数据集而从用户接收用户输入;以及
命令生成器,其被配置成根据该用户输入来产生结构良好的命令。
30.如权利要求20所述的附件,其中所述消息是控制命令,该控制命令用于实现以下的至少一个:对附件进行控制,以及执行第一联网电器的操作循环。
