本发明涉及推荐诸如电视节目的感兴趣项目的方法和设备，更具体而言，涉及根据已经向一个或多个第三方推荐的项目，向特定的用户推荐节目和其他感兴趣的项目。
随着电视观众可得到的频道数量以及在这样频道上可得到的节目内容的多样性的增加，对于电视观众来说识别感兴趣的电视节目越来越成为一种挑战。电子节目指南(EPG)可以(例如通过标题、时间、日期和频道)识别可得到的电视节目，并且通过根据个人化的偏好分类或搜索可得到的电视节目，从而有助于感兴趣的节目的识别。

此外，很多人常常希望他们能够观看一个朋友或同事观看的电视节目。然而，目前没有一种机制能够根据为所选择的第三方(诸如朋友、同事或潮流引领者)所做的推荐来推荐电视节目或其他感兴趣的项目。此外，目前没有一种机制能够使得多个推荐器共享推荐并根据其他推荐器推荐的信息生成推荐分数。
总体而言，本发明公开了一种用于根据为一个或多个第三方所做的推荐向用户推荐感兴趣的项目的方法和设备。根据本发明的一个方面，由主要推荐器生成的推荐分数会被为了一个或多个第三方(例如朋友、同事或潮流引领者)生成的推荐所影响。在一种实施方案中，可以以希望的方式利用加权的平均值来结合每个节目或其他感兴趣的项目的各种推荐分数。这样，公开的推荐器在推荐感兴趣的项目时得到了其他的推荐器的确证，并且根据第三方推荐调整常规的推荐器的分数。

图1说明根据本发明的电视节目推荐器100。如图1所示，示例性的电视节目推荐器100对节目数据库200(在下文结合图2进行讨论)中的节目进行评价，以便识别特定观众感兴趣的节目。例如可以利用使用了在屏幕上的公知呈现技术的机顶终端/电视(未示出)，向观众呈现一组推荐的节目。虽然在此是在电视节目推荐的上下文中说明本发明，但是本发明可以被应用到任何根据对用户行为(例如，观看历史或购买历史)的评价而自动生成的推荐中。

图2是说明示例性的隐式观众简档200的表。如图2所示，隐式观众简档200包含每个均与不同的节目特征相关联的多个记录205-213。此外，对于在列230列出的每个特征，隐式观众简档200在字段235提供对应的肯定计数并在字段250提供否定计数。该肯定计数指示观众观看具有每个特征的节目的次数。该否定计数指示观众没有观看具有每个特征的节目的次数。
对于每个肯定和否定的节目例子(即，观看和没有观看的节目)，在用户简档200中对多个节目特征进行分类。例如，如果给定观众在傍晚观看频道2的给定体育节目十次，则隐式观众简档200中与这些特征相关联的肯定计数在字235增加10，而否定计数会是0(零)。因为隐式观看简档200是基于用户的观看历史的，所以包含在简档200内的数据随着观看历史的增长，会随着时间而修改。可替换地，隐式观众简档200可以基于一般或预定义的简档，例如根据他或她的人口统计状况为该用户选择的简档。
尽管利用隐式观众简档来说明观众简档200，但是观众简档200也可以利用显式简档或是显式与隐式简档的组合来实现，这对于本领域的普通技术人员来说是显而易见的。例如，为了讨论既利用隐式简档又利用显式简档以获得组合的节目推荐分数的电视节目推荐器100，在此引入2000年9月20日提交的、题为“用于使用隐式和显式观看偏好生成推荐分数的方法和设备(Method And Apparatus ForGenerating Recommendation Scores Using Implicit And ExplicitViewing Preferences)”的美国专利申请09/666,401作为参考。
图3是来自图1中为每个在给定的时间间隔可得到的节目记录信息的节目数据库300的样本表。节目数据库300中出现的数据可以从例如电子节目指南110中获得。如图3所示，节目数据库300包含每一个均与给定节目相关联的多个记录，例如记录305到320。对于每个节目，节目数据库300分别在字段340和345中指示与该节目相关联的日期/时间以及频道。此外，在字段350和355中标识出每个节目的标题和类型。额外的公知属性(未示出)，例如演员、持续时间和节目描述也可以包含在节目数据库300中。
节目数据库300还可以在字段370可选地记录由电视节目推荐器100分配给每个节目的推荐分数(R)的指示。此外，节目数据库300也可以可选地在字段370指示根据本发明由电视节目推荐器100分配给每个节目的调整的推荐分数(A)。这样，由本发明调整的数值分数可以在电子节目指南中显示给用户，该电子节目指南中的每个节目直接或映射到一个色谱或另一个视觉线索上以允许用户快速地找到感兴趣的节目的位置。
图4是描述实现本发明原理的示例性的节目推荐程序400的流程图。如前所述，节目推荐程序400生成节目推荐分数，该节目推荐分数被给定用户的观看习惯以及这些节目被另一个人的至少一个其他节目推荐器推荐的程度所影响。
如图4所示，节目推荐程序400最初在步骤410期间获得电子节目指南(EPG)110。此后，节目推荐程序400在步骤420期间以常规的方式为感兴趣的时段中的每个节目计算一个节目推荐分数R(或者从常规的推荐器获得节目推荐分数R)。此后，节目推荐程序400在步骤430期间为感兴趣的时段中的节目从第三方节目推荐器120获得第三方节目推荐分数(RTP)。
在步骤450期间，依照下式为感兴趣的时段中的每个节目计算一个调整的节目推荐分数A：

Claims (10)

1.一种用于向用户推荐一个或多个可得到的项目(305，310，320)的方法，该方法包括以下步骤：
为至少一个所述可得到的项目(305，310，320)生成反映对用户观看习惯的评价的初始推荐分数；
为至少一个所述可得到的项目(305，310，320)获得至少一个第三方推荐，所述的第三方推荐反映出对至少一个第三方的观看习惯的评价；
通过使用加权的平均值来调整初始节目推荐分数，以便有选择地强调反映对用户观看习惯的评价的初始推荐，或者强调反映对至少一个第三方的观看习惯的评价的至少一个第三方推荐；
根据所述第三方推荐为所述至少一个所述可得到的项目(305，310，320)生成调整的推荐分数(A)。
2.如权利要求1所述的方法，其中向所述接收到的第三方推荐添加所述第三方是否选择了对应的推荐项目的指示。

用于为至少一个所述可得到的项目(305，310，320)获得至少一个第三方推荐的装置，所述第三方推荐反映对至少一个第三方的观看习惯的评价；
用于通过使用加权的平均值来调整初始节目推荐分数的装置，以便有选择地强调反映对用户观看习惯的评价的初始推荐，或者强调反映对至少一个第三方的观看习惯的评价的至少一个第三方推荐；
用于根据所述第三方推荐为所述至少一个所述可得到的项目(305，310，320)生成调整的推荐分数的装置。
9.如权利要求8所述的系统，其中所述处理器被配置成将对应的推荐项目是否被所述第三方选择的指示添加到所述接收到的第三方推荐中。
