Abstract

The present invention provides an adjustable bed handheld remote control that may include a handheld housing, a touch sensor on a front face of the handheld housing, a transmitter and the like. The touch sensor may be presented in a slider form and may be adapted to facilitate a user in adjusting a frame position of an adjustable bed. The transmitter may be electrically coupled to a processor and may receive input from the touch sensor, for communication control signals to the adjustable bed in accordance with the input received from the touch sensor.

Claims (69)

1. An adjustable bed handheld remote control, comprising:
a handheld housing;
a touch sensor on a front face of the handheld housing, wherein the touch sensor is presented in a slider form and is adapted to facilitate a user in adjusting a frame position of an adjustable bed; and a transmitter, electrically coupled to a processor that receives input from the touch sensor, for communicating control signals to the adjustable bed in accordance with the input received from the touch sensor.
2. The adjustable bed handheld remote control of claim 1 wherein the touch sensor is a capacitive touch sensor.
3. The adjustable bed handheld remote control of claim 1 wherein the slider is in the form of a dial.
4. The adjustable bed handheld remote control of claim 1, herein the slider is in the form of a linear strip.
5. The adjustable bed handheld remote control of claim 1 wherein the slider is in the form of a curvilinear strip.
6. The adjustable bed handheld remote control of claim 1 wherein the slider is in the form of a curve.
7. The adjustable bed handheld remote control of claim 1 wherein the transmitter is a transceiver and is adapted to transmit the control signals from the adjustable bed handheld remote control to the adjustable bed and receive data from the adjustable bed.
8. An adjustable bed handheld remote control, comprising:
a handheld housing;
a touch sensor on a front face of the handheld housing, wherein the touch sensor is presented in a slider form and is adapted to facilitate a user in adjusting a massage motor setting of an adjustable bed; and a transmitter, electrically coupled to a processor that receives input from the touch sensor, for communicating control signals to the adjustable bed in accordance with the input received from the touch sensor.
9. An adjustable bed handheld remote control, comprising:
a handheld housing;
a touch sensor on a front face of the handheld housing, wherein the touch sensor is presented in a slider form and is adapted to facilitate a user in adjusting a parameter of an adjustable bed; and a transmitter, electrically coupled to a processor that receives input from the touch sensor, for communicating control signals to the adjustable bed in accordance with the input received from the touch sensor.
10. An adjustable bed handheld remote control, comprising:
a handheld housing;
a first touch sensor on a front face of the handheld housing, wherein the first touch sensor is presented in a slider form and is adapted to facilitate a user in adjusting a parameter of an adjustable bed;
a second touch sensor on the front face of the handheld housing, wherein the second touch sensor is adapted to facilitate the user in adjusting a parameter of an audio visual system; and a transmitter, electrically coupled to a processor that receives input from the first and second touch sensors, for communicating control signals to the adjustable bed in accordance with the input received from the first touch sensor.
11. An adjustable bed handheld remote control, comprising:
a handheld housing;
a first touch sensor on a front face of the handheld housing, wherein the first touch sensor is presented in a slider form and is adapted to facilitate a user in adjusting a parameter of an adjustable bed;
a second touch sensor on the front face of the handheld housing, wherein the second touch sensor is adapted to facilitate the user in adjusting a parameter of an audio system; and a transmitter, electrically coupled to a processor that receives input from the first and second touch sensors, for communicating control signals to the adjustable bed in accordance with the input received from the first touch sensor.
12. An adjustable bed handheld remote control, comprising:
a handheld housing;
a first touch sensor on a front face of the handheld housing, wherein the first touch sensor is presented in a slider form and is adapted to facilitate a user in adjusting a parameter of an adjustable bed;
a second touch sensor on the front face of the handheld housing, wherein the second touch sensor is adapted to facilitate the user in adjusting a parameter of a remote computer facility; and a transmitter, electrically coupled to a processor that receives input from the first and second touch sensors, for communicating control signals to the adjustable bed in accordance with the input received from the first touch sensor.
13. An adjustable bed handheld remote control, comprising:
a handheld housing;
a first touch sensor on a front face of the handheld housing, wherein the first touch sensor is presented in a slider form and is adapted to facilitate a user in adjusting a parameter of an adjustable bed;

a second touch sensor on the front face of the handheld housing, wherein the second touch sensor is adapted to facilitate the user in adjusting a parameter of an HVAC
system; and a transmitter, electrically coupled to a processor that receives input from the first and second touch sensors, for communicating control signals to the adjustable bed in accordance with the input received from the first touch sensor.
14. An adjustable bed handheld remote control, comprising:
a handheld housing;
a first touch sensor on a front face of the handheld housing, wherein the first touch sensor is presented in a slider form and is adapted to facilitate a user in adjusting a parameter of an adjustable bed;
a second touch sensor on the front face of the handheld housing, wherein the second touch sensor is adapted to facilitate the user in adjusting a parameter of an kitchen appliance; and a transmitter, electrically coupled to a processor that receives input from the first and second touch sensors, for communicating control signals to the adjustable bed in accordance with the input received from the first touch sensor.
15. An adjustable bed handheld remote control, comprising:
a handheld housing;
a first touch sensor on a front face of the handheld housing, wherein the first touch sensor is presented in a slider form and is adapted to facilitate a user in adjusting a parameter of an adjustable bed;
a second touch sensor on the front face of the handheld housing, wherein the second touch sensor is adapted to facilitate the user in adjusting a parameter of an alarm system; and a transmitter, electrically coupled to a processor that receives input from the first and second touch sensors, for communicating control signals to the adjustable bed in accordance with the input received from the first touch sensor.
16. An adjustable bed handheld remote control, comprising:
a handheld housing;
a first touch sensor on a front face of the handheld housing, wherein the first touch sensor is presented in a slider form and is adapted to facilitate a user in adjusting a parameter of an adjustable bed;
a second touch sensor on the front face of the handheld housing, wherein the second touch sensor is adapted to facilitate the user in adjusting a parameter of an vehicle system; and a transmitter, electrically coupled to a processor that receives input from the first and second touch sensors, for communicating control signals to the adjustable bed in accordance with the input received from the first touch sensor.
17. An adjustable bed handheld remote control, comprising:
a handheld housing;
a first touch sensor on a front face of the handheld housing, wherein the first touch sensor is presented in a slider form and is adapted to facilitate a user in adjusting a parameter of an adjustable bed;
a second touch sensor on the front face of the handheld housing, wherein the second touch sensor is adapted to facilitate the user in adjusting a second parameter of the adjustable bed; and a transmitter, electrically coupled to a processor that receives input from the first and second touch sensors, for communicating control signals to the adjustable bed in accordance with the input received from the first and second touch sensors.
18. An adjustable bed handheld remote control, comprising:
a handheld housing;
a touch screen on a front face of the handheld housing;
a plurality of images presented on the touch screen each representative of a different function associated with an adjustable bed, wherein each of the plurality of images is coded to generate a control signal in response to an interaction with each of the plurality of images; and a transmitter for communicating the control signal to the adjustable bed.
19. The adjustable bed handheld remote control of claim 18 wherein at least one of the plurality of images is adapted to produce a second control signal when touched and produce an additional control signal when touched for a predetermined period of time.
20. The adjustable bed handheld remote control of claim 18 wherein at least one of the plurality of images is configured to accept an interaction by sliding across one of the plurality of images.
21. The adjustable bed handheld remote control of claim 18 further comprising an auxiliary image presented on the touch screen representative of a function associated with an auxiliary system.
22. The adjustable bed handheld remote control of claim 21 wherein the auxiliary system is an audio visual system.
23. The adjustable bed handheld remote control of claim 21 wherein the auxiliary system is an audio system.
24. The adjustable bed handheld remote control of claim 21 wherein the auxiliary system is a computer system.
25. The adjustable bed handheld remote control of claim 21 wherein the auxiliary system is an HVAC system.
26. The adjustable bed handheld remote control of claim 21 wherein the auxiliary system is a kitchen appliance.
27. The adjustable bed handheld remote control of claim 21 wherein the auxiliary system is an alarm system.
28. The adjustable bed handheld remote control of claim 21 wherein the auxiliary system is a vehicle system.
29. An adjustable bed handheld remote control, comprising:
a handheld housing;
a user interface for adjusting a parameter of an adjustable bed, the user interface disposed on a front face of the handheld housing; and a processor that receives input from the user interface, the processor electrically coupled to a communication circuit for:
transmitting signals from the adjustable bed handheld remote control to the adjustable bed in accordance with the input received from the user interface; and receiving data indicative of a receipt of the control signals from the adjustable bed.
30. The adjustable bed handheld remote control of claim 29 wherein the transceiver operates a Bluetooth protocol.
31. The adjustable bed handheld remote control of claim 29 wherein the transceiver is an RF
transceiver.
32. An adjustable bed handheld remote control, comprising:
a handheld housing;
a user interface for adjusting a frame position of an adjustable bed, the user interface disposed on a front face of the handheld housing; and a processor that receives input from the user interface, to the processor electrically coupled to a communication circuit for:
transmitting control signals from the adjustable bed handheld remote control to the adjustable bed in accordance with the input received from the user interface; and receiving data from the adjustable bed indicating that the frame position has been achieved by the adjustable bed.
33. An adjustable bed handheld remote control, comprising:
a handheld housing;
a user interface for adjusting a massage motor setting of an adjustable bed, the user interface disposed on a front face of the handheld housing; and a processor that receives input from the user interface, the processor electrically coupled to a communication circuit for:
transmitting control signals from the adjustable bed handheld remote control to the adjustable bed in accordance with the input received from the user interface; and receiving data from the adjustable bed indicating that the massage motor setting has been achieved by the adjustable bed.
34. An adjustable bed handheld remote control, comprising:
a handheld housing;
a user interface on a front face of the handheld housing, wherein the user interface is adapted to facilitate a user adjusting a parameter of an adjustable bed;
a transmitter, electronically coupled to a processor that receives input from the user interface, adapted to transmit control signals from the adjustable bed handheld remote control to the adjustable bed in accordance with the input received from the user interface; and a receiver, electronically coupled to the processor, adapted to receive data indicative of a receipt of the control signals from the adjustable bed.
35. The adjustable bed handheld remote control of claim 34 wherein the transmitter and the receiver operate at different frequencies.
36. An adjustable bed handheld remote control, comprising:
a handheld housing;
a user interface on a front face of the handheld housing, wherein the user interface is adapted to facilitate a user adjusting a frame position of an adjustable bed;
a transmitter, electronically coupled to a processor that receives input from the user interface, adapted to transmit control signals from the adjustable bed handheld remote control to the adjustable bed in accordance with the input received from the user interface; and a receiver, electronically coupled to the processor, for receiving data from the adjustable bed indicating that the frame position has been achieved by the adjustable bed.
37. The adjustable bed handheld remote control of claim 36 wherein the transmitter and the receiver operate at different frequencies.
38. An adjustable bed handheld remote control, comprising:
a handheld housing;
a user interface on a front face of the handheld housing, wherein the user interface is adapted to facilitate a user adjusting a massage motor setting of an adjustable bed;
a transmitter , electronically coupled to a processor that receives input from the user interface, adapted to transmit control signals from the adjustable bed handheld remote control to the adjustable bed in accordance with the input received from the user interface; and a receiver, electronically coupled to the processor, receive data from the adjustable bed indicating that the massage motor setting has been achieved by the adjustable bed.
39. The adjustable bed handheld remote control of claim 38 wherein the transmitter and the receiver operate at different frequencies.
40. An adjustable bed handheld remote control, comprising:
a handheld housing;

a user interface on a front face of the handheld housing, wherein the user interface is adapted to facilitate a user adjusting a parameter of an adjustable bed; and a transceiver, electronically coupled to a processor that receives input from the user interface, adapted to:
transmit control signals from the adjustable bed handheld remote control to the adjustable bed in accordance with the input received from the user interface; and receive data indicative of an error encountered in a control system of the adjustable bed.
41. An adjustable bed handheld remote control, comprising:
a handheld housing;
a user interface on a front face of the handheld housing, wherein the user interface is adapted to facilitate a user adjusting a parameter of an adjustable bed; and a transceiver, electronically coupled to a processor that receives input from the user interface, adapted to:
transmit user interface control signals from the adjustable bed handheld remote control to the adjustable bed in accordance with the input received from the user interface;
transmit diagnostic control signals from the adjustable bed handheld remote control to the adjustable bed to cause a controller of the adjustable bed to go into a diagnostic mode; and receive data indicative of the diagnostic mode from the adjustable bed.
42. An adjustable bed handheld remote control, comprising:
a handheld housing;
a user interface on a front face of the handheld housing, wherein the user interface is adapted to facilitate a user adjusting a parameter of an adjustable bed;
a transceiver, electronically coupled to a processor that receives input from the user interface, adapted to:

transmit control signals from the adjustable bed handheld remote control to the adjustable bed in accordance with the input received from the user interface; and receive data from the adjustable bed indicative of a new setting of the adjustable bed; and a display on the adjustable bed handheld remote control for displaying information indicative of the new setting.
43. An adjustable bed handheld remote control, comprising:
a handheld housing;
a user interface on a front face of the handheld housing, wherein the user interface is adapted to facilitate a user adjusting a frame position of an adjustable bed;
a transceiver, electronically coupled to a processor that receives input from the user interface, adapted to:
transmit control signals from the adjustable bed handheld remote control to the adjustable bed in accordance with the input received from the user interface; and receive data from the adjustable bed indicating that the frame position has been achieved; and a display on the adjustable bed handheld remote control for displaying information indicative of the frame position.
44. The adjustable bed handheld remote control of claim 43 wherein the information displayed on the adjustable bed handheld remote control is a position number associated with the frame position.
45. An adjustable bed handheld remote control, comprising:
a handheld housing;
a user interface on a front face of the handheld housing, wherein the user interface is adapted to facilitate a user adjusting a massage setting of an adjustable bed;

a transceiver, electronically coupled to a processor that receives input from the user interface, adapted to:
transmit control signals from the adjustable bed handheld remote control to the adjustable bed in accordance with the input received from the user interface; and receive data from the adjustable bed indicating that the massage setting has been achieved; and a display on the adjustable bed handheld remote control for displaying information indicative of the massage setting.
46. The adjustable bed handheld remote control of claim 45 wherein the information displayed on the adjustable bed handheld remote control is a number associated with the massage setting.
47. A method, comprising:
sending a control signal to an adjustable bed to change an adjustable parameter of the adjustable bed;
causing the adjustable bed to change the adjustable parameter in accordance with the control signal;
causing the adjustable bed to send data indicative of a new setting indicative of the changed adjustable parameter; and displaying a number indicative of the data on a handheld remote control.
48. An adjustable bed handheld remote control, comprising:
a handheld housing;
a user interface on a front face of the handheld housing, wherein the user interface is adapted to facilitate a user adjusting a parameter of an adjustable bed;
a transceiver, electronically coupled to a processor that receives input from the user interface, adapted to:

transmit control signals from the adjustable bed handheld remote control to the adjustable bed in accordance with the input received from the user interface; and receive data from the adjustable bed indicative of a new setting of the adjustable bed; and a display on the adjustable bed handheld remote control for displaying graphical information indicative of the new setting.
49. An adjustable bed handheld remote control, comprising:
a handheld housing;
a user interface on a front face of the handheld housing, wherein the user interface is adapted to facilitate a user adjusting a parameter of an adjustable bed; and a display on the user interface for displaying a graphical representation of the adjustable bed parameter.
50. The adjustable bed handheld remote control of claim 49 wherein the graphical representation of the adjustable bed parameter indicates a current status of the parameter as indicated by the adjustable bed.
51. An adjustable bed handheld remote control, comprising:
a handheld housing;
a user interface on a front face of the handheld housing, wherein the user interface is adapted to facilitate a user in adjusting a parameter of an adjustable bed and wherein the user interface is adapted to facilitate the user adjusting a parameter of an auxiliary system; and a display on the user interface for displaying a graphical representation of the adjustable bed parameter and a graphical representation of the auxiliary system parameter.
52. The adjustable bed handheld remote control of claim 51 wherein the graphical representation of the adjustable bed parameter indicates a current status of the parameter as indicated by the adjustable bed.
53. The adjustable bed handheld remote control of claim 51 wherein the graphical representation of the auxiliary system parameter indicates a current status of the parameter as indicated by the auxiliary system.
54. An adjustable bed handheld remote control, comprising:
a handheld housing;
a user interface on a front face of the handheld housing, wherein the user interface is adapted to facilitate a user adjusting a parameter of an adjustable bed;
a transmitter, electronically coupled to a processor that receives input from the user interface, adapted to transmit control signals from the adjustable bed handheld remote control to the adjustable bed in accordance with the input received from the user interface;
a receiver, electronically coupled to the processor, adapted to receive data from the adjustable bed indicative of a new setting of the adjustable bed; and a display on the adjustable bed handheld remote control for displaying graphical information indicative of the new setting.
55. The adjustable bed handheld remote control of claim 54 wherein the transmitter and the receiver operate at different frequencies.
56. A method, comprising:
sending a control signal to an adjustable bed from a handheld remote control to adjust a parameter of the adjustable bed; and in response to receiving information from the adjustable bed indicating that the parameter has been adjusted, displaying a graphical representation on the handheld remote control; wherein the graphical representation is illustrative of the adjusted parameter.
57. A method, comprising:
sending a control signal at a first frequency to an adjustable bed from a handheld remote control to adjust a parameter of the adjustable bed; and in response to receiving information at a second frequency from the adjustable bed indicating that the parameter has been adjusted, displaying a graphical representation on the handheld remote control; wherein the graphical representation is illustrative of the adjusted parameter.
58. An adjustable bed handheld remote control, comprising:
a handheld housing;
a touch screen user interface on a front face of the handheld housing, wherein the touch screen user interface is adapted to facilitate a user adjusting a parameter of an adjustable bed;
a transceiver, electronically coupled to a processor that receives input from the touch screen user interface, adapted to:
transmit control signals from the adjustable bed handheld remote control to the adjustable bed in accordance with the input received from the touch screen user interface; and receive data from the adjustable bed indicative of a new setting of the adjustable bed; and wherein graphical information indicative of the new setting is displayed on the touch screen user interface and the user can adjust the parameter by interacting with the graphical information displayed on the touch screen.
59. An adjustable bed handheld remote control, comprising:
a handheld housing;
a touch screen user interface on a front face of the handheld housing, wherein the touch screen user interface is adapted to facilitate a user adjusting a parameter of an adjustable bed;
a transmitter, electronically coupled to a processor that receives input from the touch screen user interface, adapted to transmit control signals from the adjustable bed handheld remote control to the adjustable bed in accordance with the input received from the touch screen user interface; and a receiver, electronically coupled to the processor, adapted to receive data from the adjustable bed indicative of a new setting of the adjustable bed; and wherein graphical information indicative of the new setting is displayed on the touch screen user interface and the user can adjust the parameter by interacting with the graphical information displayed on the touch screen.
60. A method, comprising:
presenting an interactive graphical representation illustrative of an adjustable parameter of an adjustable bed;
manipulating the interactive graphical representation;
sending a control signal to the adjustable bed in accordance with the manipulating; and causing the adjustable bed to respond to the control signal.
61. A method, comprising:
presenting a first interactive graphical representation illustrative of an adjustable parameter of an adjustable bed on a hand held remote control;
presenting a second interactive graphical representation illustrative of an adjustable parameter of an auxiliary system;
manipulating the first and second interactive graphical representations;
sending a control signal to the adjustable bed in accordance with the manipulating; and causing the adjustable bed to respond to the control signal.
62. A method comprising:
storing a plurality of values that define a range of available settings for a bed massage motor, wherein storing the plurality of values includes storing a table having a plurality of entries, each one of the plurality of entries specifying one of the range of available settings for the bed massage motor;
receiving a request to set the bed massage motor as a user selected setting;
determining which of the plurality of values represents the user selected setting; and causing the bed massage motor to be set to the user selected setting by using the value that represents the user selected setting.
63. The method of claim 62, wherein the user selected setting is an intensity setting.
64. The method of claim 62, wherein the user selected setting is a mode setting.
65. The method of claim 62, wherein the user selected setting is a frequency setting.
66. A method comprising:
storing a plurality of values that define a range of available settings for a bed massage motor, wherein storing the plurality of values includes storing a table having a plurality of entries, each one of the plurality of entries specifying one of the range of available settings for the bed massage motor;
receiving a request to save a setting of the bed massage motor as a user-selected setting;
and determining which of the plurality of values represents a current setting of the bed massage motor to provide a current setting value; and storing an association of the current setting value with the user-selected setting, wherein storing the association of the current setting value with the user-selected setting includes adding a store indication to each one of the plurality of entries of the table except for the one of the plurality of entries representing the current setting value.
67. A method comprising:
storing a plurality of values that define a range of available settings for a bed massage motor, wherein storing the plurality of values includes storing a table having a plurality of entries, each one of the plurality of entries specifying one of the range of available settings for the bed massage motor;
receiving a request to save a setting of the bed massage motor as a user-selected setting;
and determining which of the plurality of values represents a current setting of the bed massage motor to provide a current setting value; and storing an association of the current setting value with the user-selected setting, wherein storing the association of the current setting value with the user-selected setting includes adding a store indication to the value representing the current setting value.
68. A method comprising:
storing a plurality of values that define a range of available settings for a bed function, wherein storing the plurality of values includes storing a table having a plurality of entries, each one of the plurality of entries specifying one of the range of available settings for the bed function;
receiving a request to save a setting of the bed function as a user-selected setting; and determining which of the plurality of values represents a current setting of the bed function to provide a current setting value; and storing an association of the current setting value with the user-selected setting, wherein storing the association of the current setting value with the user-selected setting includes adding a store indication to the value representing the current setting value.
69. The method of claim 68, wherein the bed function is a massage motor.
