Abstract
Non-cementitious CO2 sequestering compositions are provided. The compositions of the invention include a CO2 sequestering additive, e.g., a CO2 sequestering carbonate composition.
Additional aspects of the invention include methods of making and using the non-cementitious CO2 sequestering compositions.

Claims (56)
1. A non-cementitious composition comprising a CO2 sequestering additive, wherein the CO2 sequestering additive comprises carbon that was released in the form of CO2 from the combustion of fuel.
2. The non-cementitious composition according to Claim 1, wherein the CO2 sequestering additive is a carbonate compound composition.
3. The non-cementitious composition according to Claim 2, wherein the carbonate compound composition comprises a precipitate from an alkaline-earth metal-containing water.
4. The non-cementitious composition according to Claim 3, wherein the alkaline-earth metal-containing water comprises CO2 derived from an industrial waste stream.
5. The non-cementitious composition according to any of Claims 1 to 4, wherein the composition is a paper product.
6. The non-cementitious composition according to any of Claims 1 to 4, wherein the composition is a polymeric product.
7. The non-cementitious composition according to any of Claims 1 to 4, wherein the composition is a lubricant.
8. The non-cementitious composition according to any of Claims 1 to 4, wherein the composition is an adhesive
9. The non-cementitious composition according to any of Claims 1 to 4, wherein the composition is rubber.
10. The non-cementitious composition according to any of Claims 1 to 4, wherein the composition is chalk.
11. The non-cementitious composition according to any of Claims 1 to 4, wherein the composition is an asphalt product.
12. The non-cementitious composition according to any of Claims 1 to 4, wherein the composition is paint.
13. The non-cementitious composition according to any of Claims 1 to 4, wherein the composition is an abrasive for paint removal.
14. The non-cementititious composition according to any of Claims 1 to 4, wherein the composition is a personal care product.
15. The non-cementitious composition according to Claim 14, wherein the personal care product is a cosmetic.
16. The non-cementitious composition according to Claim 14, wherein the personal care product is a cleaning product.
17. The non-cementitious composition according to Claim 14, wherein the personal care product is a personal hygiene product.
18. The non-cementitious composition according to any of Claims 1 to 4, wherein the composition is an ingestible product.
19. The non-cementitious composition according to Claim 18, wherein the ingestible product is a liquid.
20. The non-cementitious composition according to Claim 18, wherein the ingestible product is a solid.
21. The non-cementitious composition according to any of Claims 1 to 4, wherein the composition is an animal ingestible product.
22. The non-cementitious composition according to any of Claims 1 to 4, wherein the composition is an agricultural product.
23. The non-cementitious composition according to Claim 22, wherein the agricultural product is a soil amendment product.
24. The non-cementitious composition according to Claim 22, wherein the agricultural product is a pesticide.
25. The non-cementitious composition according to any of Claims 1 to 4, wherein the composition is an environmental remediation product.
26. The non-cementitious composition according to Claim 25, wherein the environmental remediation product is forest soil restoration.
27. The non-cementitious composition according to Claim 25, wherein the environmental remediation product is neutralization of over-acidified water.
28. A method of producing a non-cementitious composition, the method comprising:
obtaining a CO2 sequestering additive, wherein the CO2 sequestering additive comprises carbon that was released in the form of CO2 from the combustion of fuel; and producing a non-cementitious composition comprising the CO2 sequestering additive.
obtaining a CO2 sequestering additive, wherein the CO2 sequestering additive comprises carbon that was released in the form of CO2 from the combustion of fuel; and producing a non-cementitious composition comprising the CO2 sequestering additive.
29. The method according to Claim 28, wherein the CO2 sequestering additive is a carbonate compound composition.
30. The method according to Claim 29, wherein the carbonate compound composition comprises a precipitate from an alkaline-earth metal-containing water.
31. The method according to Claim 30, wherein the alkaline-earth metal containing water comprises CO2 derived from an industrial waste stream.
32. The method according to any of Claims 28 to 31, wherein the non-cementitious composition is a paper product.
33. The method according to any of Claims 28 to 31, wherein the non-cementitious composition is a polymeric product.
34. The method according to any of Claims 28 to 31, wherein the non-cementitious composition is a lubricant.
35. The method according to any of Claims 28 to 31, wherein the non-cementitious composition is an adhesive
36. The method according to any of Claims 28 to 31, wherein4he non-cementitious composition is rubber.
37. The method according to any of Claims 28 to 31, wherein the non-cementitious composition is chalk.
38. The method according to any of Claims 28 to 31, wherein the non-cementitious composition is an asphalt product.
39. The method according to any of Claims 28 to 31, wherein the non-cementitious composition is paint.
40. The method according to any of Claims 28 to 31, wherein the non-cementitious composition is an abrasive for paint removal.
41. The method according to any of Claims 28 to 31, wherein the non-cementitious composition is a personal care product.
42. The method according to Claim 41, wherein the personal care product is a cosmetic.
43. The method according to Claim 41, wherein the personal care product is a cleaning product.
44. The method according to Claim 41, wherein the personal care product is a personal hygiene product.
45. The method according to any of Claims 28 to 31, wherein the non-cementitious composition is an ingestible product.
46. The method according to Claim 45, wherein the ingestible product is a liquid.
47. The method according to Claim 45, wherein the ingestible product is a solid.
48. The method according to any of Claims 28 to 31, wherein the non-cementitious composition is an animal ingestible product.
49. The method according to any of Claims 28 to 31, wherein the non-cementitious composition is an agricultural product.
50. The method according to Claim 49, wherein the agricultural product is a soil amendment product.
51. The method according to Claim 49, wherein the agricultural product is a pesticide.
52. The method according to any of Claims 28 to 31, wherein the non-cementitious composition is an environmental remediation product.
53. The method according to Claim 52, wherein the environmental remediation product is forest soil restoration.
54. The method according to Claim 52, wherein the environmental remediation product is neutralization of over-acidified water.
55. A method of sequestering carbon dioxide, the method comprising:
precipitating a CO2 sequestering carbonate compound composition from an alkaline-earth-metal-containing water, wherein the carbonate compound composition comprises carbon that was released in the form of CO2 from the combustion of fuel; and producing a CO2 sequestering additive comprising the carbonate compound composition; and producing a non-cementitious composition comprising the CO2 sequestering additive.
precipitating a CO2 sequestering carbonate compound composition from an alkaline-earth-metal-containing water, wherein the carbonate compound composition comprises carbon that was released in the form of CO2 from the combustion of fuel; and producing a CO2 sequestering additive comprising the carbonate compound composition; and producing a non-cementitious composition comprising the CO2 sequestering additive.
56. The method according to Claim 55, wherein the alkaline-earth-metal-containing water is contacted to an industrial waste stream prior to the precipitating step.
