Abstract

An exercising perineometer apparatus (10, 170) for home or clinical use assesses the strength of pelvic floor muscles (18, 20) and provides visual and audible biofeedback signals (186, 190) as training aids during pelvic muscle exercises. Impedance signals (Z) proportional to pelvic muscle contraction forces are developed by a transducer sleeve (70) that is mounted on a shaft portion (46) of a pelvic probe assembly (10). A battery-powered RF transmitter module (164) contained within the probe assembly (10) transmits wireless feedback signals (176) to a hand-held monitor (170) that is equipped with an RF receiver (174), a visual display unit (186) and a piezoelectric speaker (190). The probe (10) reacts the pelvic contraction forces and thus provides a direct tactile feedback signal that is used in combination with the audible and visual feedback signals for improving the endurance and strength of pelvic muscles (18, 20).
