Abstract

Individualized trichomes, methods for individualizing trichomes, chemical derivatives of individualized trichomes, trichome-containing fibrous structures, single- or multi-ply sanitary tissue products comprising such fibrous structures and methods for making such fibrous structures and sanitary tissue products are provided.

Claims (20)

1. A fibrous structure comprising a trichome.
2. The fibrous structure according to Claim 1 wherein the trichome is a fiber.
3. The fibrous structure according to Claim 1 wherein the trichome is derived from a plant in the Stachys genus.
4. The fibrous structure according to Claim 1 wherein the trichome is derived from a plant Stachys byzantina.
5. The fibrous structure according to Claim 1 wherein the fibrous structure further comprises a wood pulp fiber.
6. The fibrous structure according to Claim 1 wherein the fibrous structure further comprises a synthetic fiber.
7. The fibrous structure according to Claim 1 wherein the fibrous structure further comprises an additive selected from the group consisting of: wet strength additives, softening additives, starch, clay, dry strength resins, wetting agents, lint resisting agents, absorbency-enhancing agents, immobilizing agents, lotion compositions, antiviral agents, antibacterial agents, polyol polyesters, antimigration agents, polyhydroxy plasticizers and mixtures thereof.
8. The fibrous structure according to Claim 1 wherein the trichome comprises at least about 0,1% by weight of the fibrous structure.
9. The fibrous structure according to Claim 1 wherein the trichome comprises less than about 50% by weight of the fibrous structure.
10. A single- or multi-ply sanitary tissue product comprising a fibrous structure according to Claim 1.
11. A method for individualizing a trichome from an epidermis of a non-seed portion of a trichome-bearing plant, the process comprising the step of contacting said plant with a device such that trichome is separated from said epidermis.
12. The method according to Claim 11 wherein the device comprises an attrition mill comprising a slotted screen wherein the separated trichome is attritioned via the slotted screen during operation of the attrition mill.
13. The method according to Claim 11 wherein the device comprises an air classifier.
14. The method according to Claim 13 wherein the device further comprises a screen.
15. A method for individualizing a trichome from an epidermis of a non-seed portion of a trichome-bearing plant, the process comprising the step of contacting said plant portion with a chemical to promote that said trichome is separated from said epidermis.
16. A method for making a trichome-containing fibrous structure comprising the steps of:
a) preparing a fiber furnish by mixing a trichome with water;
b) depositing the fiber furnish on a foraminous forming surface to form an embryonic fibrous web; and c) drying the embryonic fibrous web.
17. An individualized trichome.
18. The individualized trichome of claim 17 wherein the trichome is non-glanduar.
19. An individualized trichome according to Claim 17 wherein such individualized trichome is converted into a cellulose derivative.
20. An individualized trichome according to Claim 17 wherein said cellulose derivative is selected from the group consisting of regenerated cellulose, cellulose esters, cellulose ethers, nitrocelluloses and mixtures thereof.
