Abstract

A drum cartridge (27) comprises a frame (91) that includes a first side wait (96), a second side wail (97) and a bottom wall (98) which extends between the side walls in a width direction so as to act as the bottom surface (195) of each of a photosensitive member housing section, developer cartridge receiving section for receiving a developer cartridge (28), and an extension section (104) with many paper guiding ribs (165) extending in a direction substantially perpendicular to the width direction.

Claims (39)

1. A developer cartridge (28, 728) that is attachable to and detachable from a photosensitive member cartridge (27, 727) housing a photosensitive member therein, comprising:

a frame (29, 729) including a first side wall (38) and a second side wall (39), the first side wall (38) and the second side wall (39) extending substantially in a length direction;

a developer housing section (30) for housing a developer, the developer housing section (30) extending from the first side wall (38) to the second side wall (39) in a width direction substantially perpendicular to the length direction;

a developer supplying section (36) for supplying the developer to a photosensitive member, the developer supplying section (36) extending from the first side wall (38) to the second side wall (39) in the width direction and housing a developer carrying member (32), the developer carrying member (32) including a developer carrying member shaft (64) and a developer carrying member body (65) supported on the developer carrying member shaft (64), the developer carrying member shaft (64) extending in the width direction and being rotatably supported by the first side wall (38) and the second side wall (39);

a developer electrode (76) for electrically biasing the developer carrying member (32), at least a portion of the developer electrode (76) being connected to the developer carrying member (32) at the first side wall (38); and an input gear (68) for supplying a driving force for rotating the developer carrying member (32), the input gear (68) being rotatably supported at the first side wall (38).

The developer cartridge (28, 728) of claim 1, further comprising a first gear member (71) for transmitting a driving force to the developer carrying member (32), the first gear member (71) being engaged with the input gear (68) and being fixedly supported by an end portion of the developer carrying member shaft (64) projecting outwardly from the first side wall (38).

The developer cartridge (28, 728) of claim 2, wherein the developer housing section (30) includes an agitating member (46) for agitating the developer, the agitating 124a member (46) including an agitator shaft (59) extending in the width direction and being rotatably supported by the first side wall (38) and the second side wall (39).

The developer cartridge (28, 728) of claim 3, further comprising a second gear member (69) for supplying a driving force for rotating the agitating member (46), the second gear member (69) being fixedly supported by an end portion of the agitator shaft (59) that protrudes outwardly from the first side wall (38).
5. The developer cartridge (28, 728) of claim 4, further comprising a third gear member (70) rotatably supported by the first side wall (38);

wherein the third gear member (70) engages the first gear member (71) and the second gear member (69).

The developer cartridge (28, 728) of claim 5, wherein the developer supplying section (36) houses a developer supplying member (31) including a developer supplying member shaft (62), the developer supplying member shaft (62) extending in a width direction and being rotatably supported by the first side wall (38) and the second side wall (39).

The developer cartridge (28, 728) of claim 6, further comprising a fourth gear member (72) for supplying a driving force for rotating the developer supplying member (31), the fourth gear member (72) being engaged with the input gear (68) and being fixedly supported by an end portion of the developer supplying member shaft (62) that protrudes outwardly from the first side wall (3 8).
8. The developer cartridge (28, 728) of claim 7, wherein the first side wall (38) is provided with a cover (77), and the input, first, second, third and fourth gear members (68, 71, 69, 70, 72) are arranged between the cover (77) and the first side wall (38).
9. The developer cartridge (28, 728) of claim 8, wherein the input gear (68) is accessible through an opening (75) in the cover (77).
10. The developer cartridge (28, 728) of claim 9, wherein the developer electrode (76) extends outwardly from the cover (77) in the width direction.
11. The developer cartridge (28, 728) of claim 10, wherein the developer electrode (76) is a conductive collar member (83) that is attached to the end portion of the developer carrying member shaft (64), wherein the first gear member (71) is arranged between the conductive collar member (83) and the developer carrying member body (65) in the width direction.
12. The developer cartridge (28, 728) of claim 11, wherein the conductive collar member (83) is further attached to the end portion of the developer supplying member shaft (62) such that the fourth gear member (72) is arranged between the developer carrying member body (65) and the conductive collar member (83) in the width direction.
13. The developer cartridge (28, 728) of claim 12, wherein the conductive collar member (83) is formed from a conductive resin material.
14. The developer cartridge (28,728) of claim 1, wherein the input gear (68) is arranged upstream of the developer electrode (76) relative to an installing direction (FIG. 8), the installing direction being a direction along which the developer cartridge (28,728) is moveable to detachably attach the developer cartridge (28,728) to an image forming device (1).
15. A developer cartridge (28, 728) that is attachable to and detachable from a photosensitive member cartridge (27, 727) including a plurality of electrodes (127, 131, 132, 137, 737, 148) on a first side of the photosensitive member cartridge (27, 727), the developer cartridge (28, 728) comprising:

a frame (29, 729) including a first side wall (38) on the first side of the developer cartridge (28, 728) and a second side wall (39) on a second side of the developer cartridge (28, 728), the first side wall (38) and the second side wall (39) extending substantially in a length direction;

a developer housing section (30) for housing a developer, the developer housing section (30) extending from the first side wall (38) to the second side wall (39) in a width direction substantially perpendicular to the length direction;

a developer supplying section (36) for supplying the developer to the photosensitive member cartridge (27, 727), the developer supplying section (36) extending from the first side wall (38) to the second side wall (39) in the width direction and housing a developer carrying member (32), the developer carrying member (32) extending in a width direction between the first side wall (38) and the second side wall (39) and being rotatably supported by the first side wall (38) and the second side wall (39); and an input gear (68) for supplying a driving force for rotating the developer carrying member (32), the input gear (68) being rotatably supported by the first side wall (38);

wherein when the developer cartridge (28, 728) is attached to the photosensitive member cartridge (27, 727) to form a process cartridge (20, 720), the first side of developer cartridge (28, 728) and the first side of the photosensitive member cartridge (27, 727) are positioned on a same side of the process cartridge (20, 720) such that the electrodes (127, 131, 132, 137, 737, 148) of the photosensitive member cartridge (27, 727) and the input gear (68) are arranged on the same side.

The developer cartridge (28,728) of claim 15, further comprising a developer electrode (76) for electrically biasing the developer carrying member (32), wherein the input gear (68) is arranged upstream of the developer electrode (76) relative to an installing direction (FIG. 8), the installing direction being a direction along which the developer cartridge (28,728) is moveable to detachably attach the developer cartridge (28, 728) to an image forming device (1).
17. The developer cartridge (28, 728) of claim 15, further comprising a developer electrode (76) for electrically biasing the developer carrying member (32), at least a portion of the developer electrode (76) being connected to the first side wall (38) and the developer carrying member (32).

The developer cartridge (28, 728) of claim 17, wherein a first thickness (T21+T22) of the developer housing section (30) in a thickness direction perpendicular to the length direction and the width direction is substantially the same as a second thickness (T20+T23) of the developer supplying section (36) in the thickness direction.
19. The developer cartridge (28, 728) of claim 17, wherein a first thickness (T24+T25) of the developer housing section (30) in a thickness direction perpendicular to the length direction and the width direction is less than a second thickness (T20+T23) of the developer supplying section (36) in the thickness direction.
20. The developer cartridge (28, 728) of claim 18, wherein the developer carrying member (32) comprises a developer carrying member shaft (64) and a developer carrying member body (65) fixedly supported by the developer carrying member shaft (64).
21. The developer cartridge (28, 728) of claim 19, wherein at least a portion of the developer electrode (76) is attached to an end portion of the developer carrying member shaft (64) extending outwardly from the first side wall (38).
22. The developer cartridge (28, 728) of claim 21, wherein when the developer cartridge (28, 728) is attached to the photosensitive member cartridge (27, 727) to form a process cartridge (20, 720), and the developer electrode (76) projects outwardly from the first side of the developer cartridge (28, 728) further than the plurality electrodes (127, 131, 132, 137, 737, 148) projects from the first side of the photosensitive member cartridge (27, 727).
23. A photosensitive member cartridge (27, 727) that is attachable to and detachable from at least one of a developer cartridge (28, 728) and an image forming device (1), the photosensitive member cartridge (27, 727) comprising:

a frame (91, 791) including a first side wall (96) and a second side wall (97), the first side wall (96) and the second side wall (97) extending substantially in a length direction;

a photosensitive member housing section (102) extending from the first side wall (96) to the second side wall (97) in a width direction substantially perpendicular to the length direction;

a developer cartridge receiving section (103) extending from the first side wall (96) to the second side wall (97) in the width direction;

a plurality of electrical elements (92, 93, 94, 95, 128, 129) supported by the frame (91, 791); and a plurality of electrodes (127, 131, 132, 137, 737, 148) for biasing the plurality of electrical elements (92, 93, 94, 95, 128, 129), the plurality of electrodes (127, 131, 132, 137, 737, 148) being supported by the first side wall (96);

wherein:

the first side wall (96) includes a first subsurface (113), a second subsurface (109L) and a third subsurface (111), each of the subsurfaces (109L, 111, 113) supporting at least one of the plurality of electrodes (127, 131, 132, 137, 737, 148);

the first subsurface (113) is further from the developer cartridge receiving section (103) in the length direction than the second subsurface (109L) and the third subsurface (111); and the first subsurface (113) is closer to the second side wall (97) in the width direction than the second subsurface (109L) and the third subsurface (111).
24. The photosensitive member cartridge (27, 727) of claim 23, wherein:
the plurality of electrical elements (92, 94, 95, 128, 129) includes an electrically activated cleaning member (95); and a cleaning electrode (148) connected to the cleaning member (95) is supported by the first subsurface (113).
25. The photosensitive member cartridge (27, 727) of claim 24, wherein the plurality of electrodes (127, 131, 132, 137, 737, 148) includes a grid electrode (132), a transfer electrode (137, 737), a wire electrode (131), and a ground electrode (127).
26. The photosensitive member cartridge (27, 727) of claim 25, wherein the transfer electrode (137, 737) is arranged on the second subsurface (109L).
27. The photosensitive member cartridge (27, 727) of claim 26, wherein the grid electrode (132) and the wire electrode (131) are arranged on the third subsurface (111).
28. The photosensitive member cartridge (27, 727) of claim 27, wherein the ground electrode (127) is provided on a fourth subsurface (108L) of the first side wall (96).
29. The photosensitive member cartridge (27, 727) of claim 28, wherein at least a portion of the fourth subsurface (108L) is positioned between the second subsurface (109L) and the third subsurface (111) in a thickness direction perpendicular to the length direction and the width direction.
30. The photosensitive member cartridge (27, 727) of claim 29, wherein the first subsurface (113), the second subsurface (109L), the third subsurface (111) and the fourth subsurface (108L) are substantially parallel.
31. The photosensitive member cartridge (27, 727) of claim 30, wherein the transfer electrode (137, 737) and the ground electrode (127) are substantially the same distance from the developer cartridge receiving section (103) in the length direction.
32. The photosensitive member cartridge (27, 727) of claim 31, wherein the wire electrode (131) is positioned between the grid electrode (132) and the developer cartridge receiving section (103) in the length direction.
33. The photosensitive member cartridge (27, 727) of claim 32, wherein:

the transfer electrode (137, 737) is positioned below the grid electrode (132) and the wire electrode (131) as the photosensitive member cartridge (27, 727) is situated when installed in the image forming device (1); and the transfer electrode (137, 737) is positioned between the grid electrode (132) and the wire electrode (131) in the length direction.
34. The photosensitive member cartridge (27, 727) of claim 29, wherein the third subsurface (111) includes a first portion 111A and a second portion 111B such that the wire electrode (131) is located at the first portion 111A and the grid electrode (132) is located at the second portion 111B.
35. The photosensitive member cartridge (27, 727) of claim 29, wherein:

the fourth subsurface (108L) is connected to the second subsurface (109L) by a first connecting wall portion (110L);

the fourth subsurface (108L) is connected to the third subsurface (111) by a second connecting wall portion (112);

the fourth subsurface (108L) is connected to the first subsurface (113) by a third connecting wall portion (114); and the third connecting wall portion (114) is connected to at least one of the first connecting wall portion (110L) or the second connecting wall portion (112).
36. The photosensitive member cartridge (27, 727) of claim 35, wherein the first connecting wall portion (110L), the second connecting wall portion (112) and the third connecting wall portion (114) are substantially perpendicular to the first subsurface (113), the second subsurface (109L), the third subsurface (111) and the fourth subsurface (108L).
37. A process cartridge (20, 720) that is attachable to and detachable from an image forming device (1) and includes a developer cartridge (28, 728) and a photosensitive member cartridge (27, 727) wherein the developer cartridge (28, 728) is attachable to and detachable from the photosensitive member cartridge (27, 727) housing a photosensitive member therein, the process cartridge (20, 720) comprising:

a first frame (91, 791) including a first side wall (96) and a second side wall (97);

a second frame (29, 729) including a third side wall (38) and a fourth side wall (39);

a photosensitive member housing section (102) extending from the first side wall (96) to the second side wall (97);

a developer housing section (30) extending from the third side wall (38) to the fourth side wall (39);

a developer supplying section (36) extending from the third side wall (38) to the fourth side wall (39);

an input gear (68) for providing a driving force to the developer housing section (30) and the developer supplying section (36), the input gear (68) being rotatably supported by the third side wall (38);

a plurality of electrical elements (92, 93, 94, 95, 128, 129) supported by the first frame (91, 791); and a plurality of electrodes (127, 131, 132, 137, 737, 148) for biasing the plurality of electrical elements (92, 93, 94, 95, 128, 129), the plurality of electrodes (127, 131, 132, 137, 737, 148) being arranged on the first side wall (96);

wherein:
the first frame (91, 791) is attachable to and detachable from the second frame (29, 729); and when the first frame (91, 791) is attached to the second frame (29, 729), the first side wall (96) and the third side wall (38) are arranged on a first side of the process 131a cartridge (20, 720), and the second side wall (97) and the fourth side wall (39) are arranged on a second side of the process cartridge (20, 720).
38. The process cartridge (20, 720) of claim 37, wherein:

the developer supplying section (36) houses a developer carrying member (32) including a developer carrying member body (65) and a developer carrying member shaft (64), the developer carrying member shaft (64) having an end portion that extends outwardly from the third side wall (38); and the process cartridge (20, 720) further comprises a developer electrode (76) connected to the end portion.
39. The process cartridge (20, 720) of claim 38, wherein:

the first side wall (96) includes a first subsurface (113), a second subsurface (109L) and a third subsurface (111), each of the subsurfaces (109L, 111, 113) supporting at least one of the plurality of electrodes (127, 131, 132, 137, 737, 148);

the first subsurface (113) is further from the developer housing section (30) in the length direction than the second subsurface (109L) and the third subsurface (111); and the first subsurface (113) is closer to the second side wall (97) in the width direction than the second subsurface (109L) and the third subsurface (111).
