Abstract
The invention is a method and system for inhibiting the use of counterfeited optical memory cards (11) and hybrid smart cards that use Drexon.TM. reflective laser recordable media (17) for recording and storing data. Use of such counterfeit version of Drexon.TM. optical memory cards (11) can be inhibited by use of two or more LEDs, or semiconductor lasers, which would focus their light beams on the apparent Drexon.TM. optical memory stripe (17). Using photodetectors, the reflectivity of the Drexon.TM. stripe (17) would be measured at two or more wavelengths including the visible and the infrared so as to identify the Drexon.TM. media (17), a silver particle-based material which has a unique reflectivity vs. wavelength characteristic. If the relative reflectivities match those predetermined characteristics of the Drexon.TM.
media (17), the card (11) would not be rejected; otherwise it would be rejected.
