Abstract

The invention is directed to improved cover (14) compositions for golf ball (10) construction and the resulting low modulus golf balls (10) produced utilizing the improved cover (14) compositions. The novel golf ball cover (14) compositions of the invention comprise a blend of a relatively large amount (i.e. from about 75 to about 85-90 %) of at least one soft ionomer resin. When the cover (14) compositions of the invention are utilized to manufacture golf balls (10), the golf balls (10) produced thereby, exhibit properties of improved playability at low swing speeds without substantial sacrifices in durability and/or distance characteristics when compared to known hard soft ionomer blends.
