Abstract
The invention relates to a highly alkaline or mildly alkaline detergent composition having enhanced cleaning properties. The detergent combines a source of alkalinity and a blend of nonionic alkoxylated surfactant and nonionic alkoxylated silicone surfactant that enhances cleaning waxy-fatty soils. The composition may be in the form of solid block.
Claims (38)
1. An alkaline detergent composition comprising:
(a) an effective soil removing amount of a source of alkalinity comprising sodium carbonate; and (b) an effective soil removing amount of a nonionic surfactant blend comprising:
(i) a nonionic surfactant comprising a hydrophobic group and an -(EO)x group, wherein x is a number of about 1 to 100; and (ii) a nonionic silicone surfactant comprising a hydrophhbic silicone group and a pendent hydrophilic polyalkylene oxide group;
wherein sodium carbonate is the sole source of alkalinity and the detergent exhibits enhanced waxy-fatty soil removing capacity; wherein the detergent in an aqueous solution exhibits a surface tension at ambient room temperature of less than 0.030 N/m.
(a) an effective soil removing amount of a source of alkalinity comprising sodium carbonate; and (b) an effective soil removing amount of a nonionic surfactant blend comprising:
(i) a nonionic surfactant comprising a hydrophobic group and an -(EO)x group, wherein x is a number of about 1 to 100; and (ii) a nonionic silicone surfactant comprising a hydrophhbic silicone group and a pendent hydrophilic polyalkylene oxide group;
wherein sodium carbonate is the sole source of alkalinity and the detergent exhibits enhanced waxy-fatty soil removing capacity; wherein the detergent in an aqueous solution exhibits a surface tension at ambient room temperature of less than 0.030 N/m.
2. The detergent of claim 1 wherein the detergent comprises a solid block having a mass of at least 100 grams.
3. The detergent of claim 2 wherein the detergent is packaged within a flexible wrapping.
4. The detergent of claim 1 comprising a powder.
5. The detergent of claim 1 comprising a pellet.
6. The detergent of claim 1 wrerein the silicone surfactant has the formula:

7. The detergent of claim 1 whsrein the source of alkalinity comprises an alkali metal hydroxide.
8. The detergent of claim 1 wherein the source of alkalinity comprises an alkali metal carbonate.
9. The detergent of claim 1 wherein the detergent additionally comprises a hardness sequestering agent.
10. The detergent of claim 1 wherein the silicone surfactant has the formula:
wherein x represent a number that ranges from about 0 to about 100, y represent a number that ranges from about 1 to about 100, a and b represent numbers that independently represent numbers that range from about 0 to about 60, a+b ~ 1 and R is hydrogen or a lower (C1-6) alkyl.

11. The detergent of claim 1 wherein the nonionic surfactant comprises a linear alcohol ethoxylate or an alkylphenolethoxylaze.
12. The detergent of claim 1 wherein the nonionic surfactant comprises a benzyl capped C8-12 linear alcohol 6 to 16 mole ethoxylate.
13. The detergent of claim 9 wherein the sequestrant comprises an amino trialkylene phosphonic acid sodium salt.
14. The detergent of claim 9 wherein the sequestrant additionally comprises a 2-phosphono-butane-1, 2, 4-tricarboxylic acid sodium salt, 1-hydroxyethylidene-l, 1-diphosphonic acid, diethylenetriamine-penta(methylenephosphonic acid) or mixtures thereof.
15. The detergent of claim 9 wherein the sequestrant comprises sodium tripolyphosphate and amino trimethylene phosphonic acid sodium salt, 2-phosphono-butane-1,2, 4-tricarboxylic acid, 1-hydraxyethylidene-1,1-diphoephonic acid, diethylenetriamine-penta(methylenephosphonic acid) or mixtures thereof.
16. The detergent composition of claim 2, wherein the detergent comprises (a) about 5 to 70 wt% of Na2CO2; and (b) about 1 to 50 wt% of a hardness sequestering agent selected from the group consisting of sodium tripolyphosphate, an organic phosphonate sequestrant, and mixtures thereof;
wherein the solid block detergent has a mass of at least 0.5 kilograms.

17. The detergent of claim 16 wherein the phosphonate sequestrant comprises an amino trimethylere phosphonic acid sodium salt.
18. The detergent of clain 17 wherein the sequestrant additionally comprises a 2-phosphono-butane-1,2, 4-tricarboxylic acid sodium salt, 1-hydroxyethylidene-1, 1-diphosphonic acid, diethylenetriamine-penta(methylenephosphonic acid) or mixtures thereof.
19. The detergent of claim 16 wherein the detergent is packaged in a flexible polyolefin film.
20. The detergent of claim 1 additionally comprising a source of chlorine.
22. The detergent of claim 20 wherein the source of chlorine comprises an encapsulated chlorine source.
22. A solid block detergent composition, the detergent comprising:
(a) an effective soil removing amount of a source of alkalinity comprising sodium carbonate:
(b) an effective amount of a hardness sequestering agent; and (c) an effective soil removing amount of nonionic surfactant composition comprising:
(i) a nonionic surfactant comprising a hydrophobic group and an -(EO)x group, wherein x is a number of about 1 to 100; and (ii) a silicone surfactant comprising a hydrophobic silicone group and a pendent hydrophilic polyalkylene oxide group;
wherein sodium carbonate is the sole source of alkalinity and the block has a mass of at least 100 grams and is packaged within a flexible wrapping and the dertergent exhibits enhanced waxy-fatty soil cleaning capacity; wherein the detergent in an aqueous solution exhibits a surface tension of less than 0.030 N/m.

23. The detergent of claim 21 wherein the silicone surfactant has the formula:

26. The detergent of claim 22 wherein the nonionic surfactant comprises a benzyl capped CP-12 linear alcohol 6 to 16 mole ethoxylate.
27. The detergent of claim 23 wherein the sequestrant comprises an amino trialkylene phosphoric acid sodium salt.
28. The detergent of claim 27 wherein the sequestrant additionally comprises a 2-phosphono-butane-1,2, 4-tricarboxylic acid sodium salt, 1-hydroxyethylidene-1, 1-diphosphonic acid, diethylenatriamine-penta (methylenephosphonic acid) or mixtures thereof.
29. The detergent of claim 22 wherein the sequestrant comprises an amino trialkylene phosphoric acid sodium salt or a 2-phosphono-butane-1,2,4-tricarbaxylic acid sodium salt 1-hydroxyethylidene-1,1-diphosphonic acid, diethylenetriamine-penta(methylenephosphonic acid) or mixtures thereof.
30. The detergent of claim 22 wherein the sequestrant comprises sodium tripolyphosphate and amino trimethylene phosphonic acid sodium salt, 2-phosphono-butane-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid or mixtures thereof.
31, The detergent composition of claim 22, wherein the detergent comprises:
(a) about 5 to 70 wt% of Na2CO3; and (b) about 3 to 40 wt% of a hardness sequestering agent selected from the group consisting of sodium tripolyphosphate, an organic phosphonate sequestrant, and mixtures thereof;
wherein the solid block detergent has a mass of at least 0.5 kilograms.
(a) about 5 to 70 wt% of Na2CO3; and (b) about 3 to 40 wt% of a hardness sequestering agent selected from the group consisting of sodium tripolyphosphate, an organic phosphonate sequestrant, and mixtures thereof;
wherein the solid block detergent has a mass of at least 0.5 kilograms.
32. The detergent of claim 22 wherein the detergent is packaged in a flexible polyolefin film.
33. The detergent of claim 22 additionally comprising a chlorine source.
34. The detergent of claim 33 wherein the chlorine source comprises an encapsulated chlorine source.
35. A method of removing waxy/fatty soils from ware, said method comprising: contacting said ware with an alkaline detergent use solution composition, the use solution composition comprising:
(a) an effective soil removing amount of a source of sodium carbonate alkalinity; and (b) an effective soil removing amount of a nonionic surfactant blend comprising:
(i) a nonionic surfactant comprising a hydrophobic group and an -(EO) x group, wherein x is a number of about 1 to 100; and (ii) a nonionic silicone surfactant comprising a hydrophobic silicone group and a pendent hydrophilic polyalkylene oxide group to form clean ware; and rinsing the ware, wherein the detergent exhibits enhanced waxy-fatty soil removing capacity and a dilute use solution exhibits a surface tension of less than about 35 dynes/cm at a temperature of 160°F to achieve soil removal.
(a) an effective soil removing amount of a source of sodium carbonate alkalinity; and (b) an effective soil removing amount of a nonionic surfactant blend comprising:
(i) a nonionic surfactant comprising a hydrophobic group and an -(EO) x group, wherein x is a number of about 1 to 100; and (ii) a nonionic silicone surfactant comprising a hydrophobic silicone group and a pendent hydrophilic polyalkylene oxide group to form clean ware; and rinsing the ware, wherein the detergent exhibits enhanced waxy-fatty soil removing capacity and a dilute use solution exhibits a surface tension of less than about 35 dynes/cm at a temperature of 160°F to achieve soil removal.
36. A method of removing waxy/fatty soils from ware, said method comprising: contacting said ware with an alkaline detergent use solution composition, the use solution composition comprising:
(a) an effective soil removing amount of a source of sodium carbonate alkalinity;
(b) an effective amount of a hardness sequestering agent; and (c) an effective soil removing amount of nonionic surfactant composition comprising:
(i) a nonionic surfactant comprising a hydrophobic group and an - (EO) x group, wherein x ie a number of about 1 to 100; and (ii) a silicone surfactant comprising a hydrophobic silicone group and a pendent hydrophilic polyalkylene oxide group to form clean ware; and rinsing the ware, wherein the block has a mass of at least 100 grams and is packaged within a flexible wrapping and the detergent exhibits enhanced waxy-fatty soil clcaning capacity and a dilute use solution comprising up to about 40 parts by weight of the nonionic silicone surfactant per each one million parts of the use solution exhibits a surface tension of less than about 35 dynes/cm at a temperature of 160°F to achieve soil removal.
(a) an effective soil removing amount of a source of sodium carbonate alkalinity;
(b) an effective amount of a hardness sequestering agent; and (c) an effective soil removing amount of nonionic surfactant composition comprising:
(i) a nonionic surfactant comprising a hydrophobic group and an - (EO) x group, wherein x ie a number of about 1 to 100; and (ii) a silicone surfactant comprising a hydrophobic silicone group and a pendent hydrophilic polyalkylene oxide group to form clean ware; and rinsing the ware, wherein the block has a mass of at least 100 grams and is packaged within a flexible wrapping and the detergent exhibits enhanced waxy-fatty soil clcaning capacity and a dilute use solution comprising up to about 40 parts by weight of the nonionic silicone surfactant per each one million parts of the use solution exhibits a surface tension of less than about 35 dynes/cm at a temperature of 160°F to achieve soil removal.
37. A method of removing waxy/fatty soils from ware;
said method comprising: contacting said ware with an alkaline detergent use solution composition, the use solution composition comprising:
(a) an effective soil removing amount of a source of sodium carbonate alkalinity; and (b) an effective soil removing amount of a surfactant blend comprising a nonionic silicone surfactant comprising a hydrophobic silicone group and a pendent hydrophilic amphoteric amide group with the formula:
wherein PA is:
wherein x represent a number that ranges from about 0 to about 100, y represent a number that ranges from about 1 to about 100, a and b are numbers ranging from 0 to 60, a + b ~ 1 and R is H or lower (C1-6) alkyl to form clean ware; and rinsing the ware; and wherein the detergent exhibits enhanced waxy-fatty soil removing capacity and a dilute use solution comprising up to about 40 parts by weight of the nonionic silicone surfactant per each one million parts of the use solution exhibits a surface tension of less than about 35 dynes/cm at a temperature of 160°F to achieve soil removal.
said method comprising: contacting said ware with an alkaline detergent use solution composition, the use solution composition comprising:
(a) an effective soil removing amount of a source of sodium carbonate alkalinity; and (b) an effective soil removing amount of a surfactant blend comprising a nonionic silicone surfactant comprising a hydrophobic silicone group and a pendent hydrophilic amphoteric amide group with the formula:
wherein PA is:
wherein x represent a number that ranges from about 0 to about 100, y represent a number that ranges from about 1 to about 100, a and b are numbers ranging from 0 to 60, a + b ~ 1 and R is H or lower (C1-6) alkyl to form clean ware; and rinsing the ware; and wherein the detergent exhibits enhanced waxy-fatty soil removing capacity and a dilute use solution comprising up to about 40 parts by weight of the nonionic silicone surfactant per each one million parts of the use solution exhibits a surface tension of less than about 35 dynes/cm at a temperature of 160°F to achieve soil removal.
38. A method of removing waxy/fatty soils from ware, said method comprising contacting said ware with an alkaline detergent use solution composition, the use solution composition comprising:
(a) an effective soil removing amount of a source of sodium carbonate alkalinity;
(b) an effective amount of a hardness sequestering agent; and (c) an effective soil removing account of a surfactant blend comprising a nonionic surfactant and a nonionic silicone surfactant comprising a hydrophobic silicone group and a pendent hydrophilic amphoteric amide group with the formula:
wherein PA is:
wherein x represent a number that ranges from about 0 to about 100, y represent a number that ranges from about 1 to about 100, a and b represent numbers from 0 to 60, a + b ~ 1 and R is H or a lower (C1-6) alkyl, to form clean ware; and rinsing the clean ware; and wherein the block hag a mass of at least 100 grams and is packaged within a flexible wrapping and the detergent exhibits enhanced waxy-fatty soil cleaning capacity and a dilute use solution comprising up to about 40 parts by weight of the nonionic silicone surfactant per each one million parts of the use solution exhibits a surface tension of less than about 35 dynes/cm at a temperature of 160°F to achieve soil removal.
