Description
COFFEE CUP LID SHIELD
Field of the Invention This invention relates to a fast food type coffee cup lid, that protects liquid refreshments from spilling out of a lid that has been designed with a tear off removable tab, or a lid that is manufactured with the tab already removed so that the open aperture can be re-sealed to protect the contents from all kinds of contaminants such as dust dirt insects and spills.
Background of the Invention It is very frustrating purchasing a hot drink and placing it in a cup holder and open the tab to find when you drive over a bump that the contents of your coffee cup is propelled over your clothes and or your business papers.
There are many cups made with sliding closure lids. These types of lids are made for reusable cups and cannot be used as " to go " type lids that are made with a different process. This Type is impractical to install on a " to go" type lid which is about one tenth of the value. Also to fit a " to go " lid, you require a special fit to secure the lid to stop their refreshments from spilling.
-Z-Lnfortunately, there is no fast reliable method to re-seal a " to go " lid currently being sold in the market place. The main reason is the vast varity of lid designs.
Once a tab has been removed from the the lid there is nothing with which to.
replace it . Thus contaminants can enter into the liquid as well increasing the speed of cooling down of certain product.
io Summary of the invention It is the main object of the invention to provide a press on lid shield that will conform with a vacuum formed lid that has two identical series of female cavities to except a mail vacuum molded shield. The need for two series of female cavities is one set is for storage of the shield when it is not needed and the other is to fill the hole of the tear away tab, which has an air And water tight fit, to reduce the possibility of spilling the contents once the tear away tab has been removed .
The shield will be held in place by a formed portion that is pressed into a small hole at the center of the lid. Once the fbrmed portion has been placed into possession the shied will be able to swivel arodhd as shown in d~~Wi~tgs attached.
For ~~~ra security t~~ edg~2 df tfie 'shield that is adjacent to the rid of t~f~ cup, i~lrt~l lbck the shield' into place, by using the above three methods mentioned, which includes the male and female molds.
Air and water tight fit is achieved and the drink is kept hot and clean.
Manufacture of the shields, may be made part of the lid or loose. If a customer needs a shield he can select one in the same way as a spoon .
In another aspect of the invention the shields may be made just for dust or dirt with a plain smooth shield that will just cover the tear away tab aperture or pre- die cut hole and will not be air or water tight, as shown in the drawings attached.
Parts of the shield may be printed upon as it will never come in contact with the mouth. It will always be swiveled away so that a person can drink from the cut away area.
