Abstract

The invention concerns shaped bodies made of composite material based on cellulose acetate as binder and reinforcing natural cellulose fibres and/or natural cellulosic fibres, characterized in that the cellulose acetate has a degree of substitution (DS) of between approximately 1.2 and 2.7, the shaped body has a Vicat temperature of at least approximately 160 ~C, and the mass ratio of cellulose acetate to natural cellulose fibres and/or natural cellulosic fibres is between approximately 10:90 and 90:10. These shaped bodies are produced in that cellulose acetate is mixed with the natural cellulose fibres and/or natural cellulosic fibres in a mass ratio of between approximately 90:10 and 10:90, in particular 15:85 and 85:15, the total moisture content is set at at least approximately 3 mass %, relative to the total amount of cellulose acetate in the mixture, and the mixture is compressed at a temperature of between approximately 220 and 280 ~C and a pressure of between approximately 30 and 150 bar. The shaped bodies according to the invention can advantageously be used as parts for vehicle interiors, in particular headlining and side linings, as well as packaging material, insulating material or parts of furniture.
