Abstract

A heavy patient support (10) is mounted on a base (11) by load cell beams (26) forming the transducer for a scale to weigh a patient. Each load cell (20) has a cup (35), a ball (40) and an inverted cup (36) providing the sole support for the patient sup-port. Thus, only vertical components of force are weighed, and lateral movement of the patient support with respect to the bed is minimized.
