Petrol Price Tracker > FAQs
1. How often are the fuel prices updated?
Our data provider MotorMouth updates prices twice each day from Monday-Saturday and once a day on Sundays. From Monday-Saturday fuel prices are progressively updated between 5:30am and 8:30am each morning and between noon and 3pm each afternoon. On Sundays fuel prices are updated between 10am and noon. It is not feasible for MotorMouth to monitor fuel prices on a 24-hour basis due to the variability of prices in the marketplace.
2. How accurate is the data collected?
The data is accurate at the time Motormouth collects it. In Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, Sydney, Melbourne, Hobart and Adelaide there can be numerous price movements in a 24-hour period. In Perth, service stations must maintain their price for a fixed 24 hour period from 6am each day. MotorMouth delivers twice-daily updates each weekday to provide a more up-to-date reflection of the fuel pricing market.
3. Not all service stations in my area are surveyed - why?
In order to cater for as many motorists as possible, Motormouth have chosen to initially survey service stations that are on major routes. At present Motormouth covers about 50% of metropolitan service stations. Over time more service stations will be added. In Perth, all metropolitan service stations are reported.
4. Why don't you cover country or regional areas?
At this stage Motormouth are not collecting fuel prices in country areas, however their ultimate aim is to cover as much of Australia as possible.
