I'm having the "Oops" message as well, in Chrome. It works on my home computer, but not my work one.
Does not work behind proxy with ChromeFredrik Ryde - Feb 2, 2010 - Report this comment
This gadget doesn't work when I'm behind the company proxy and using Chrome. It works fine behind the proxy when using IE or FF. Anyone else having this issue?
I've had the "Oops" message for a few weeks now. I just deleted the gadget and re-added it. Seems to be working now.

... or at least a "Next unread" button navigating to the corresponding item. It is inconvenient to scroll down tens to hundreds items looking for the only unread item buried somewhere in a middle of the stream.

This has been going on all day today. It has happened several times as can be seen in other comments. Google should consider fixing the problem or we need to find another Reader...
had this on and off for two days. my research found the recommendation to use https: in the address line vice http: it's working for me using https: seems to me i saw an item recently about google doing something with site security involving https though i could be mistaken. HTH
Are there really less than a hundred people using this offering? I've used it and loved it for years, practically never going to reader.google.com. I was really freaking out that 11 widgets on my home page had stopped working, but logging into the main Reader page did the trick. Thanks, Dustin, for the tip.
Yes, expanding the gadget revealed a login prompt. Logging in and unexpanding worked for me too. As an aside, the maximized view layout list view had overlapping headline text in both Safari and Firefox for me.
Like so many, I have been frustrated with Google Reader. I tried your suggestion and it worked! THANK YOU so much for sharing that information. Too bad Google didn't.
Please add a "Share" button. - Michael Duffy - Jan 15, 2010 - Report this comment
I love this gadget and have been using it ever since it was released. It's great that it offers the ability to "Star" an item right from the gadget, but why can't I also "Share" an item directly from the gadget?? Please, I share items all the time, and I hate having to leave my iGoogle page, open up Reader, and navigate to the same item I was just reading in the gadget--which BTW is now marked as read, and thus hidden--just so that I can share the item with my friends. Pleeease add this feature. I promise I will bump my rating to 5 stars!
I had the same problem with the reader. I just found that if I expanded the gadget, it had a login prompt. Once I logged in, minimized, and refreshed the page, it worked again.
This widget has been off line all day?? Can't find any help. Not very pleased!
Feature request - "Mark all as read" should be a drop down like Gmail - Jeff at Photograjph.com - Jan 13, 2010 - Report this comment
Love this, use 5 instances in my iGoogle - but why no "tick box" against each news item as well as the star, and a drop down instead of "mark all as read" (like gmail widget)? I have hundreds of items in my feeds every day, mark all as read is not useful if I want to keep some live!!
Wanted to chime in re features, it would be *great* to have a 'share' option in the gadget window, and also escape to close the balloon would be very helpful! Lover the gadget otherwise, thanks!
Feature request: close balloon with Esc buttonSven Heinz - Jan 3, 2010 - Report this comment
I use the gadget quite a bit and find it very useful. I frequently use the balloon abstract and would find it very practical if it could be closed by hitting the Escape button, to avoid having to navigate to and click the close button.
"the mark all as read" and "refresh" buttons overlap and I can't select "refresh". Please fix.
All of a sudden only shows starred itemsThomas Brookside - Dec 11, 2009 - Report this comment
I want the gadget to show ALL my Google Reader items, and it always has to this point. But this morning it started showing only Starred items and nothing I can do changes it back. The gadget is absolutely worthless if there's no way to make it show ALL items.
What's going on with this gadget? - Brian Stokoe - Dec 11, 2009 - Report this comment
I have been using this gadget for a long time & it's been great. For the past week or so, this error has shown and the gadget has been worthless: "oops...an error occurred. please try again in a few seconds". Granted, I am able to use the gadget to open the full blown Reader, but it's basically just a bookmark inside my iGoogle space.
While I like the gadget overall, the times that I do want to Share or Like something I have to go into Google Reader itself and find the same post again (which is now marked read...). Just adding the Share and Like buttons would make this an easy 5 star.
Any chance that this might see Tabbed viewing for different feeds as an enhancement in the future? I use a news gadget that lets you create tabs for keywords, and it's great to be able to have that information sorted like that. Thanks!
I'm getting strange characters when looking at items that have characters with accents in. In particular thingiverse.com and ö (O umlaut). Do they work with other feeds?
